Living a healthy lifestyle can be easy when there are options available to maintain balance of spirit, mind and body. Often times, life stress can lead to fatigue, headaches, muscle pain and digestive disorders. As stress builds, exercise, eating well and relaxation is the key to optimal health and wellness.

As a CrossFitter and Acupuncturist, I try to be proactive in the choices I make each day to prevent illness and enhance performance. I incorporate monthly Acupuncture treatments in my personal wellness plan to alleviate pain, maintain mental alertness and manage life stress. As a result, I often leave treatments refreshed and pain free and more importantly, chronic pain issues are minimal.

How can acupuncture help you? Make acupuncture part of your workout of the day and avoid injury and burnout. Receive treatments 1-2 times weekly for more acute health concerns and once a month for overall wellness.

Ovarian cancer is the fourth most lethal cancer affecting women in the United States. It is the deadliest gynecologic malignancy, and the second most common cancer of the female reproductive tract. Barring a genetic predisposition, a woman’s lifetime risk is approximately 1 in 70.

Familial genetic syndromes (BRCA) can markedly increase this risk. Women in their 50s, 60s, and 70s are more frequently diagnosed with an ovarian malignancy. Unfortunately, women often present with advanced disease because the symptoms of ovarian cancer are vague, and there is no good screening tool or test to identify it earlier. It is often considered a “silent disease”, but many patients will report a constellation of symptoms – occurring for at least two to three weeks – that include: bloating, diffi culty eating or feeling full quickly, urinary frequency/urgency, and abdominal or pelvic pain. Women with these symptoms are encouraged to see their physician in order to initiate the proper diagnostic work-up. This includes a thorough history and physical exam, blood tests, and imaging studies (CT, MRI, and/or ultrasound).

If diagnosed with ovarian cancer (or it is strongly suspected), women should be seen immediately by a gynecologic oncologist, a specialist with extensive training in the surgical and chemotherapeutic management of this deadly disease. Overall survival is signifi cantly improved when this occurs. Treatment often includes surgery to remove as much of the disease as possible, followed by various chemotherapy regimens that can be tailored to the individual patient.

Gabby’s

Eden Spa Orlando was proud to host a video shoot all about Gabby and her incredible journey. When Gabby was in second grade, she was diagnosed with a condition called Alopecia areata, which is a hair-loss condition that usually affects the scalp. After years of questions, they were fi nally able to fi nd answers for Gabby. Our Eden Spa Orlando Cosmetologist, Zully Acevedo, was honored to be Gabby’s hair and makeup stylist for the day of the shoot.
