We offer an all-inclusive study abroad

programme that provides a unique opportunity

for you to study Chinese language and

experience first hand Chinese culture, while

gaining a valuable insight into the world of

work in China and working with the Chinese.

This is a new and different approach to

studying abroad in China that will ensure that

you have the skills and experience to succeed

in the 21st Century.

Course description

The Summer Chinese language courses are

designed to help you to gain new language skills

or improve your fluency for either personal or

professional reasons. The course is structured to

develop your skills in speaking, listening, reading,

writing, grammar and vocabulary. Fluency and

pronunciation are emphasised with the focus on

conversational Chinese.

Studying in a Chinese-speaking environment,

you will make rapid progress and will have plenty

of opportunities to practice your new skills with

other students and in the wider community.

Multi-national classes

To provide you with a truly international study

abroad experience, classes are multi-national

with students from a wide variety of countries.

You will be taught by high-qualified teachers,

who have many years experience of teaching

beginner level Chinese language courses to

mixed groups.

Studying with international students

from around the world will encourage you to

communicate with your classmates in Chinese,

providing the perfect environment for you to

practice your new language skills and will help to

ensure you make rapid progress. A multi-national

environment will also provide you with a unique

opportunity to makes friends from around the

world, to learn about new cultures and share

your culture with your classmates.

Chinese student mentors

Our student mentors will to help you settle

in to campus life and make the most of your

study abroad experience. All of our mentors

are Chinese students who are currently

studying at your chosen university. Outside

of the classroom they will organise small

group activities to enable you to practice your

Chinese language skills in an informal setting,

as well as arrange a programme of cultural and

social activities to introduce you to Chinese

culture and provide you with an opportunity

to visit popular tourist destinations.

Cultural and social activity programme

An integral part of the programme is the active

programme of activities and excursions to places

of major historical and cultural interest. This is an

ideal way to build on your classroom studies by

using the language in real life situations, as well

as learning first-hand about a new culture.

Whichever centre you choose, you will

begin and complete your experience in Beijing.

During your orientation programme you will

be a student of the Communication University

of China, living in the international student

residence at the heart of the University campus

and conveniently located in the city with

excellent transport links across the city.

As part of your Beijing orientation, you

will have the opportunity to visit popular

tourist destinations, including the Great Wall,

Tiananmen Square and the Forbidden City,

the Summer Palace and the ‘Birds Nest’

Olympic stadium.

Master classes

To provide you with an insight into what

it is like working in China the course

incorporates a series of weekly master

classes from professionals, who have

many years experience of working with in

China and with Chinese companies. Master

classes will take place weekly during your

on-campus experience. Professionals from

the foreign business community including

businessmen, lawyers, diplomats will be

joined by distinguished alumni from your host

University; giving a unique insight into what it

is like to work in China and with the Chinese.

Once you have confirmed your place, you

will receive a pre-departure guide containing

practical information, which will brief you on

preparing to travel to China, and will include a

visa application pack to assist you in applying for

your visa, information on arriving in Beijing and

enrolling on your course. The guide also includes

information to help you adapt to living and

studying in another culture.

Your arrival

Travelling to Beijing

All students should plan to arrive and depart

from Beijing. Beijing’s Capital Airport has direct

flight connections with most major cities in

the world. An airport pick up is included in your

course fees. Please complete the arrivals form,

which you will find in your Pre-departure guide.

When should I arrive?

You must arrive in Beijing on the Friday of the

start date of your course. The course commences

with a group orientation programme. You should

inform INTO of your date of arrival and travel

arrangements at least two weeks in advance of

the arrival date so we can advise the student

mentors of when to expect you and arrange your

airport transfer.

Our Student Services Team

Based on the university campus, the Student

Services Team are dedicated to supporting you

throughout your studies and provide a range

of support services that specifically meet the

needs of international students. When you arrive

in Beijing and transfer to your Centre, student

services will help you settle in to student life

and remain your first point of contact for non-

academic issues. Our staff speak a range of

languages and are available to assist new and

prospective students who may not be able to

communicate effectively in Chinese. No matter

how large or small your problem, there is always

someone available to help.

Orientation programme

On arrival in Beijing, a comprehensive group

orientation programme is provided at the

Communication University of China to welcome

you to China and prepare you for your study

programme. This will include a meet and greet

service on arrival at Beijing Capital Airport, a

Welcome Dinner, and an exciting programme of

excursions to places of historical and cultural

interest in Beijing and the surrounding area.

Ongoing support

24-hour support

INTO is dedicated to making you feel totally safe

and supported. Upon arrival all students are

issued with an emergency telephone number,

which can be used to ask for assistance at

any time of day or night. Within the student

residences, there are wardens who are

responsible for the pastoral care of students, and

provide an additional source of support.

Cultural activity programme

Included in your study plan is an active cultural

programme, providing you with an opportunity

to visit nearby attractions, experience traditional

Chinese culture, socialise with your new friends

and practice your new Chinese language skills in

an informal setting.

Insurance

Included in the your course fees is a

comprehensive insurance package which

includes loss of personal possessions, as well as

travel, health and medical claims.

INTO is an appointed representative of

Endsleigh Insurance Ltd, which is authorised and

regulated by the Financial Services Authority.

This can be checked on the FSA register by

visiting its website at ww.fsa.gov.uk.

Full details of the insurance policy and

cover will be included in your offer and

confirmation pack.

Accommodation

During your language course you will live with

other international students in the Overseas

Student Dormitory on the university campus.

Living on campus offers you the opportunity

to immerse yourself in campus life and for

many students is an unforgettable part of their

experience. The accommodation is offered on

a full board basis and comprises single and

twin study-bedrooms with en suite bathrooms

and free internet access. Please note a limited

number of single rooms are available. On each

floor students will have access to a communal

study room, shared kitchen and laundry facilities.

I really like China, so I decided to come to DUFE to study Chinese. DUFE is the best university. The teachers are very friendly and enthusiastic, and care about me a lot.
