    Senior Citizens Association

SCAs are effective mechanisms through which older peoplecan prepare for and respond to disasters within theircommunities. Senior Citizens through their experience andfamiliarity with their communities are well placed to

identify the needs and vulnerabilities of their families andneighbors, including the most vulnerable older people, aspart of disaster preparedness planning.

Participation in SCAs has contributed to increasedconfidence amongst older people, particularly older women.Involving older people in the planning processes will resultin the inclusion of older people in emergencyresponses, thus mainstreaming ageing in disaster riskreduction plans and activities.
