Internships
“To generate superior long-term returns, you need to think and act differently.”
Allan Gray, Orbis founder
Our internship program has a clear purpose: to support the development of high potential individuals through an engaging learning experience.
Orbis’ long-term perspective shapes the program, where successful candidates work with different teams across the firm and under the guidance of dedicated mentors. Interns are assigned to meaningful projects that are designed to make the most of their unique skills and interests.
If you are looking for a challenge—and eager to make a difference—an internship at Orbis may be for you.
Alice Intern Alumni and Mentor
Orbis’ flat structure has provided me with the flexibility to identify and shape a career path that I am truly passionate about.
My journey at Orbis has been dynamic. After my internship, I worked in three different teams spanning across four offices. Today, I am part of an exciting team that is responsible for building a like-minded client base in the US. The only constant part of my journey is the people: no matter which team it is, you get to learn from brilliant, humble individuals who strive for excellence.
A different type of internship
We are a global investment management firm designed to invest differently. That means delivering superior investment returns for our clients by finding opportunities that others have missed. We invest our own money alongside our clients and our unique fee structures are designed to reward us if we deliver value—and to penalize us if we do not. INVESTMENT APPROACH

What are we looking for?
Above all we are looking for self-starters who are prepared to push themselves to learn and grow. We are less concerned about your specific skill set than intellectual curiosity and a track record of excellence in the field you have chosen to study.

I originally started as a Fund Accountant. Over the past seven years at Orbis, I’ve had the opportunity to take on new challenges and greater responsibilities. Today I am responsible for operational delivery of the Client Reporting team and play a key role in prioritizing the team’s global projects. I’m also excited to be in a position to mentor the next generation of interns and new employees.

Since joining Orbis, I have grown both professionally and personally.
Throughout my time as an intern and now in my current role on the Client Services team, I have been given ownership over my work and the freedom to take on interesting projects outside of my day-to-day responsibilities. Whether it’s organizing training sessions for our professional development program or mining large datasets to uncover actionable business insights, the wide variety of work makes each day an adventure. In addition to engaging and challenging work, Orbis provides me with countless opportunities to volunteer within my community, connect socially, and have brand new experiences.
As a business intern, you’ll have the opportunity to rotate through some of our essential operation teams shown below. In addition, you may also have the chance to take on projects with other teams elsewhere in the firm. You’ll learn distinct skills from each of the teams that you work with.

Business opportunities
As a recent Computer Engineering graduate, I kicked off my career with a software developer internship at Orbis. In the Client Services Technology team, I was responsible for integrating a workflow into an existing module of the report generation system. This project allowed me to explore the code base and learn about the entire system while using different technologies such as ASP.NET and Angular. I received great mentorship and enjoyed working with our team.
Technology is critical to our success as a firm. A third of our people are technology professionals and each business team has its own embedded group of developers. As an intern, you’ll work alongside our best programmers and have access to the same technology and tools that they use.
