International Jury 2014 Mr. Nik J. Van-Eckmann ( Chairman) More than 30 years experience in film and television production worldwide. Companies include: ORF Austria Malaysian Television ZDF Germany Channel 9 Peru NBC New York RTL France National Geographic Television and the BBC. His first discipline is in Sound Design but has expertise as cameraman editor writer producer and director; other skills include: actor and narrator for television and the music industry. He has university degrees in Science, Education and the Arts and is currently researching, designing and developing new techniques for recording wildlife sound. This wealth of professional and academic knowledge means that he is in great demand as a lecturer, teaching the very young through to university level at establishments in Finland, Sweden, India and the UK. He has also been an important partner of our festival and a member of the International jury since 2002. Ms. Vasiliki Kappa Born and raised in Toronto, Canada, Vasiliki is a crossover artist currently living and working in Athens, Greece. She studied painting holding a master’s degree in Digital Arts (Athens School of Fine Arts). She also holds degrees in Film direction, in Ancient Greek literature and linguistics, Acting, Opera Singing and alternative psychology. As a visual artist she brings together a wide range of tools, ranging from painting to filmmaking, animation and video art. Vasiliki is also very active in the film festival organizing field as one of the founders of the International Digital Film Festival in Athens. During its last edition in 2013, she was the festival producer and also a member of the Organizing Committee of the festival www.AIDFF.com During our festival days we’ll have the opportunity to see her paintings during her exhibition “Take a trip to the Invisible Cities” which will be hosted at the Vaasa City Library iduring October 2014. Mr. Christos N. Karakasis Christos is a Film Director, Script Writer, writer and Producer. He was born in Athens, Greece and he studied FilmTheatreTV Direction, Computer Science, Music and Humanities. He is the founder of KOYINTA Organization www.kouintaproduction.gr and KOYINTA Cultural Company. He has directed, supervised, technically supported and produced many audiovisual events, presentations, adverts, video art projects and festivals. He is a Founding Member of the Greek Documentary Network and the Artistic Director of “Athens International Digital Film Festival” Last year he included in his festival program a special nature film program called “International Science and Ecological Panorama”, hosted at the Culture Centre of the City of Athens in early September 2013. Recently Christos wrote a book titled “Introduction to Cinema” which can be helpful to all aspiring filmmakers. Ms. Maikki Kantola Maikki is an acclaimed film maker, photographer and media educator in Finland and she is working for a mediaand art education organization, Videootit www.videootit.fi as a director and producer. Videootit runs different kind of video workshops about fiction, documentary and animation projects; in Finland and abroad. As a festival organizer, over a period of 20 years, Maikki has organized two different video festivals for children and young people. She was also the producer of”Living pictures” a series for YLE's (Finnish Broadcasting Company), children program about moving pictures and environment control (2002 – 2004). Maikki gets along also with her own media art, documentary and music videos, as well as photography art projects. Most of her subjects are dealing with human beings, different cultures and happiness. Maikki Kantola is a board member of CIFEJ (http://www.cifej.com) , the UNESCObased International Centre of Films for Children and Young People. Mr Jukka Tyni Jukka works as a Camera man at YLE, the Finnish Broadcasting Company. He’s a producer and film maker as well. As a Camera professional he has taken part in hundreds of television productions ranging from 8episode documentary series in coproductions, news, economy and other new action fields in television production. Although he’s a busy man, with plenty of travelling to different locations around the world to do his work, he responded positively to our invitation to become one of our Jury members. He lives in Vaasa and he has been following our festival since 2006, when he participated with an underwater production that he has filmed in the Red Sea.
