AncientWesternculturesandculturesrelatingtonon-Westerntraditions,quitebefore the existence of modern science, have adventured into the realm of braindiseases, generally based upon supernatural beliefs and speculations. Those initialviews were replaced by ancient Greek philosophy of nature, and the search forlocalizationoffunctionsandsicknessesinspecializedorgans,being,forexample,heartversusbrain,aclearpictureofthisparadigm.Inmanywaysthephilosophyofnaturewasrelatedtoreligiousinterpretations,butitendedwiththeconstructionofmodernscienceinEuropein17thcentury.Thosenaturalstepsresultedincontemporarytimeswith science as the source for technology. In the current Round Table, pieces of the challenging puzzle of cellular andmolecular components associated to the expression of the epilepsies will bepresented. In fact, when looking for cellular and molecular mechanisms of theepilepsies, researchers have discovered neuronal, glial, endothelial, neuroinflammatoryalterationsintheformofinterconnectednetworks, withavarietyofbehavioral, electrophysiologicalandcellularcounterparts. However, whatis, infact, thecontributivepartofeachofthosefactors, andwhataretheassociationsbetweenthem, inordertoberationallyattackedbymeansofavarietyoftraditionaltherapeuticagents and newly technological developments?
