European University Cyprus placed among the best institutions in the worldIn 2015 European University Cyprus secured a momentous distinction following the assessment by QS TOP UNIVERSITIES, the independent and most authoritative university-rating tool globally.

European University Cyprus is the only University in Cyprus and Greece to be rated by QS TOP UNIVERSITIES (QS Stars), which ranks many of the most prestigious universities in the United States, Canada and Europe, placing it among the top universities in the world on the basis of its performance across several fields.

QS Stars University Rating is used by interested parties and prospective students internationally to get a wider, but also more comprehensive, picture of an institution’s qualities, looking at its administrative and academic standing assessing every aspect of a university’s performance from teaching and the employability of its graduates to its facilities and social responsibility.

The QS Stars University Rating evaluates an institution against 50 different indicators and awards universities between one and five stars in a range of fields.

European University Cyprus has been assessed with the highest distinction of 5-Stars in Teaching, Facilities, Inclusiveness, Social Responsibility and Internationalisation. Its 4-Star distinction in the field of Employability is also considered a remarkable success, a result of the close association of its academic programs to the job market.

The Laureate Professional AssessmentThe LPA – Laureate Professional Assessment is the newest tool employed by our Career Center with the purpose of facilitating the transition of young graduates into the labor market. This specific assessment tool, developed by Laureate International Universities, is the first of its kind in Europe, and seeks to measure and record the individual skills of graduates. At the end of the academic year, each graduate will be examined on the basis of the LPA psychometric tool, which is provided free of charge. A personal assessment report – the LPA Certificate – describing their performance, their skills and personal traits across a range of competencies will compliment their academic and personal achievements and considerably boost their job search process.

Career Center The Career Center was established in 1989 and has consistently provided students as well as alumni with personal and career development counseling and advice. The Center maintains long-standing links to a wide range of local and regional public sector organizations and private corporations.

Every year the Career Center invites distinguished professionals from various fields to talk to students helping them broaden their scope and understanding of the job market as well as refine their own professional choices. European University Cyprus has adopted and developed several specialized tools to assist its students including the Employability Database and the Ariadne Psychometric Tool and is an active member of the International Association for the Exchange of Students for Technical Experience IAESTE.

The School of MedicineThe establishment of the School of Medicine at European University Cyprus has been pivotal to the institution’s aims to be part of the country’s aspiration as a regional medical center.

Founded in collaboration with distinguished scholars from Cyprus and abroad the organization of the School of Medicine is based on EU directives and international standards. It is accredited by the Evaluation Committee of Private Universities of the Ministry of Education and Culture (MOEC), approved by Hellenic National Academic Recognition Information Center and listed in the International Medical Directory of FAIMER (Foundation for Advancement of International Medical Education and Research).

Students are taught and trained in Cyprus. Teaching is conducted in English, with a minimum work load of 360 ECTS of the education and training required to complete the Bachelor of Medicine Degree over six years. No ‘premedical’ coursework is required as the program of study provides an all-inclusive, full basic sciences thematic unit.

The School of Medicine is a dynamic learning environment, which enables students to develop the necessary skills and attributes required to practice medicine. The curriculum is skilled-based but students are exposed to clinical work and clinical relevance starting from the first year of study. This hands-on, practical approach is maintained throughout the six years of the course of study.

The School of Medicine serves as the regional ‘educational medical-platform’, providing high-caliber education in medicine and healthcare, targeting not only residents of Cyprus, but also international medical student candidates from Europe, Asia, the Americas, Africa and the Middle East.

European University Cyprus educational model aims at making future graduates able to function anywhere within the EU and other international health care systems.

The Distance Learning UnitThe Unit was established in 2013 and has grown rapidly, offering easy access to education opportunities to a wide number of students or professionals who are not able to attend a face-to-face program/course, due to geographical, professional, family or other constraints. Services The Distance Education Unit, in addition to the programs offered on a regular basis, offers corporative training courses and professional development seminars in various disciplines to private companies or public organizations. Our Faculty members, experts in their discipline, will create the adequate learning material according to your needs and requirements. The courses/seminars will be offered entirely online by applying the Unit’s pedagogical model. We have already started the design of training courses and seminars for primary and secondary education teachers about the use and potential of Information and Communication Technologies in the classroom.

Pedagogical ModelThe Distance Education Unit of European University Cyprus is determined, from a pedagogical perspective, by a concrete model. Our main inspiration for the design and development of this model has been the Open University of Catalonia, the first 100% online university in the world, with which the Distance Education Unit of the EUC is constantly collaborating not only in research, but also at teaching level. Of course our pedagogical model is adapted to the needs, special characteristics and legislation of the Hellenic region (Greece and Cyprus), where distance education is still always accompanied with face-to-face meetings between the tutors and the students, as well as with the existence of an obligatory (written) final examination. In this context, European University Cyprus has taken into consideration the fundamental functioning principles of the Hellenic Open University and the Open University of Cyprus, with which it collaborates in issues that concern the learning materials that will be used by the University’s distance learning stdents, as well as the creation and offer of Joint Degrees.

General Objectives of the Unit

n To provide high-level education tailored to the needs of students and to ensure fulfillment of program’s objectives. n To provide high-level education and training tailored to the needs and the ‘digital profile’ of the academic teaching

personnel involved in the programs of the DEU. n To provide high-level distance education corporative training programs and professional development seminars

in various disciplines to private companies or public organizations for the development of the professional competences.

n To strengthen research in the European University of Cyprus, especially in the field of e-learning. n To promote the development, innovation and knowledge transfer related to the e-learning area.
