What is ISO?
“We're ISO, the International Organization for Standardization. We develop and publish International Standards.”
Members from 162 countries and 3,368 technical bodies. More than 150 people work full time for ISO’s Central Secretariat in Geneva, Switzerland.

How is an International Standard Made
Semi-annual Technical Committee meetings Working groups often meet face-to-face
or via teleconferences more often
Collaborative Process- all national experts participate in development of standards work items, ballot for their country and provide comments to support their national objectives
Different types of standards- IS, Technical Specification Technical Report, etc.
Start with ideas, Preliminary Work Items(PWI) and develop into International Standards (IS)

Mobility and Big Data Study Groups
WG8 is also leading the TC204 in examination of potential new standards work areas
Mobility- Study group examining how the transit industry is rapidly changing and working with shared use mobility companies (bikeshare, car share, ride share, microtransit companies (on demand services), Transportation Network Providers (e-hail companies), and partnerships with mobile trip planning, payment, and data application providers.
Big Data- Study group beginning the examination of existing data standards in development in many SDOs as well as trying to carve out what TC204 should focus on for standardization. Public Transit is leading the way in this area as well.
