This is the secondmajor reform after the last radicalchanges announced in November 2015.Now most of the sectors would beunder automatic approval route, excepta small negative list. With thesechanges, India is now the most openeconomy in the world for FDI.

In last two years, Government hasbrought major FDI policy reforms in anumber of sectors viz. Thisis the highest ever FDI inflow for aparticular financial year. However, it isfelt that the country has potential toattract far more foreign investmentwhich can be achieved by furtherliberalizing and simplifying the FDIregime. India today has been rated asNumber 1 FDI Investment Destinationby several International Agencies.

Accordingly the Government hasdecided to introduce a number ofamendments in the FDI Policy.
