Travel

The city of Brighton is in the south east of England, 54 miles south of London. It is well served by road and rail links, Bramber House is on Refectory Road, in the north-east part of Brighton.

By air

Nearest airport: London Gatwick Airport (situated south of London), situated 27 miles (43km) north of Brighton. It is 36 minutes by train.

Train from airport: You can look up train times at National Rail website (http://www.nationalrail.co.uk/ ) and buy tickets either in advance or at the station. Visitors travelling via London and the west should take a train to Brighton and change there for Falmer. The journey time from London to Brighton is just under an hour. You can also change at Lewes for Falmer, if you are coming from the east. Falmer train station is directly opposite the University campus. Pedestrian access is through a subway under the A27 - follow signs for the University of Sussex (the University of Brighton has a campus at Falmer too). Falmer is on the line between Brighton and Lewes, about eight minutes' travel time in each direction. Four trains an hour go there during the day time.

Coach from airport: Most services operate from the lower South Terminal forecourt. Some also call at North Terminal (on the lower level outside international arrivals). There are National Express ticket desks in the North and South Terminals. Tickets for most other services can be booked in advance with the coach operator or bought on board. The coach from Gatwick to Brighton is National Express number 727 or 747. You can look up coach times and fares on the National Express website (http://www.nationalexpress.com). The set-down point in Brighton for coaches from Gatwick is Pool Valley Coach Station, then it is a short 100 metre walk to the Old Steine where you can catch a bus direct to the University of Sussex. The 23, 25, 28 and 29 buses run between the centre of Brighton and the University, bringing you directly to campus. Travel time is about 20-30 minutes. Bus timetables and information is available from the Brighton buses website (http://www.buses.co.uk/).

Alternative airport: London Heathrow Airport (West London). http://www.heathrowairport.com/

Train from airport: For trains from Heathrow to Brighton, you can take the London Underground to London Victoria and connect with a mainline train to Brighton. Alternatively, take the Heathrow Express to Paddington and then the Underground to Victoria. The Heathrow Express is probably quickest but the Underground is the cheaper option. Journey time takes approximately 2 hours 15 minutes, depending on your chosen route and connection times. Please visit the Transport for London website at http://www.tfl.gov.uk/ for a map of the London Underground.

Coach from airport: London Heathrow is about 2 hours to 2 hours 30 minutes from Brighton depending on the airport terminal you are departing from/travelling to. Information for presenters

The lecture theatre is equipped with the following audio-visual equipment: • Data projector and screen • Conference laptop with PowerPoint facilities • Laser pointer • Lectern and hand held microphone

Presenters wishing to use Macintosh computers will need to bring their own VGA connectors (not HDMI) as they will not be supplied by the venue.
