Within the International Business Program, I majored in Marketing and Spanish. The program really allowed me to focus on my business major while expanding my language skills. I was a Digital Banking Intern with CitiBank first in Miami and then in Buenos Aries, Argentina where I worked on mobile banking initiatives, including a hackathon on an international scale. The strength of the reputation of MSU’s International Business Program and my previous internship experience helped me to land a full-time job offer at the beginning of my senior year!

Study Abroad

IB students are also required to study abroad for a minimum of six weeks. Experience in the language of study is encouraged, but not required.

Students may design their own study abroad experience with assistance from their advisor, or elect to participate in a formal exchange program with MSU’s

partner institutions located in Belgium, Canada, China, France, Germany, Spain, Taiwan, and South Africa.

Studying abroad provides students with an invaluable opportunity to expand their horizons, gain new perspectives on the world and it fully immerses them in an exciting new culture. While studying abroad, students develop intercultural communication and problem-solving

skills that teach independence and strong confidence. This experience strengthens a student’s abilities to overcome challenges, all while living in a different culture and speaking a new language.

The IB program pushed me to do more than I ever imagined I could during my college experience. After fulfilling my internship requirement, I have been able to successfully complete 3 other internships, for which I was chosen because the language component of my education set me apart from other applicants. My most recent internship sent me to Mexico for an audit, something I never could have done without my IB education from the College of Business.

Another one of my favorite experiences was my semester abroad in Salamanca, Spain. I lived with a host family that didn't speak English, and it improved my Spanish skills immensely. When I traveled to Mexico this summer, a few people even told me I had a Spanish accent, which really made me realize how lucky I am to have had this opportunity.
