Burmese communities from the UnitedStates are hosting an award ceremony

to gladly and proudly honor andappreciate those people in Burma who

    voluntarily perform social services for

others. This Citizen of Burma Awardwill be presented yearly.

Sounding forth the slogan, mutuallyhelping each other is the peoples

virtue, there are nine U.S. cities

participating in this award ceremony so

far. Coordination efforts are beingmade with more cities interested in theceremony.

    Although the award ceremony is

initiated by cities in the U.S., we hope

that in the coming years the ceremonywill extend widely to include

international Burmese communities. The host city of the award ceremony

will alternate every year among the participant cities. The fist ceremonywill be held at Whittier College, near

Los Angeles, on April 24th 2010.

Anyone interested can nominate persons or organizations that have

    sacrificed much for social services

inside Burma. From among thosenominated, selection committees in

each participant city will choose fivenominees.

From among these nominees, the fivefinalists, persons and/or organizations,

will have the most total internet votesfrom participant cities. Moreover, the

five finalists will have demonstratedmuch sacrifice and wide achievement

in social service, and be an ideal forcitizens and society.

As for collecting the votes in this way:

the main way in which people can beinvolved in this award every year isthrough internet voting. The voting

and collection process is not meant to judgmentally differentiate the pure

minds and noble efforts of the heroes

concerned with social services insidethe country. And, the process is

generally meant to reflect the desires ofthe people inside and outside the

    country.

    Overseas Burmese people gladly and

proudly appreciate those whovoluntarily perform social services for

people who need help inside Burma.

    Nominees are currently being accepted
