INTERESTED IN PHILOSOPHY AND MINDFULNESS? THE POWER OF PRESENCE PHILOSOPHY, AND PRACTICE T h i n k B e t t e r WHAT A Philosophy course facilitating a philosophical engagement with Eckhart Tolle’s seminal The Power of Now. This is Practical Philosophy, which implies an openness to learning whatever could help you to live more skilfully, including the intentional cultivation of more compassion, joy, and balance in your life. The book we’ll read (The Power of Now) is about mindful presence. In other words, it’s about the ease, clarity, and inspiration that can be accessed through your ability to pay full attention to what you are doing or experiencing in the present moment. The content & meetings provide the opportunity and space for a deeper and more authentic connection with oneself and others. This is a 10-week course. Each week the commitment is just to read one chapter of The Power of Now, and to meet (1 hr 15 – 1 hr 30) via Zoom. WHO Roughly 6-8 people interested in philosophy, in the philosophy and practice of mindfulness, and in related topics associated with happy, ethical, and mean- ingful living. Most people join as singles; then we put together a full ‘class’; but you’re also welcome to join as a couple or small group. (Email [email protected] or +27 72 602 2451 to ask any questions.) FACILITATOR Dean Chapman, PhD Philosophy, New York University Philosophical Consultant @ Philosophy 4 Now www.philosophy4now.com Honorary Research Affiliate of the University of Cape Town Starting in the week of the 6th of May 2021, or soon thereafter. WHO IS DEAN?

I have a PhD in Philosophy, a BSc (H) in mathematics and computer science, and a bit of an obsession with everything to do with meaningful living.

Formerly a lecturer in the Philosophy Department at the University of Cape Town, and earlier at the University of Zululand, I have taught phi-losophy—including theoretical and applied ethics—as well as mathemat-ics, logic, English, and snowboarding!

I have worked as a teaching assistant at Princeton University, New York University (NYU), and at NYU’s Centre for Bioethics; and I’m a Philosophi-cal Consultant accredited by the National Philosophical Counselling Association (npcassoc.org).
