Impetigo(School Sores)We are currently experiencing an outbreak of Impetigo – also known as School Sores - at school. Impetigo is a skin infection caused by the Staphylococcus or Streptococcus bacteria. It is also known as school sores because it commonly affects school-aged children. Impetigo is more common during the warmer months.Staphylococcus or Streptococcus bacteria can live harmlessly on and inside various areas of the body, such as the skin surface and nose. However, cuts and abrasions or eczema may allow the bacteria to cause infection to deeper skin tissues. Healthy, intact skin can sometimes develop impetigo too. The condition is characterised by collections of small, crusting blisters that usually form on the face or limbs. Impetigo looks unsightly, but it isn’t dangerous and doesn’t cause any lasting damage to the skin. However, it is highly contagious. A child with impetigo should be kept home from school or day care until appropriate treatment has begun. A visit to the doctor is absolutely imperative in these cases.

P&C NewsThank you to all the bakers for their contribution for the clearing sale on Barrington West Road on Saturday 28 March. In the six hours we were there we raised $479 from tea/coffee & cool drinks. Thank you to Alison Wise & Kim Macdonald for your help and collecting and picking up what we needed.

Gloucester Show ExcursionAll of the students will be travelling to the Gloucester Showground this Friday to take part in the activities which have been planned to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the show. Students need to be in full school uniform, including their hats, and will need to take their recess and lunch. They will not need any money as there will be no opportunity to purchase anything on the day.

Sesquicentennial MeetingThere will be another meeting in the school library this Wednesday, 2 April at 5pm. All welcome.

Gloucester Show Art - Help NeededWe urgently need a couple of volunteers to come to the school this Thursday, collect the students’ artworks and take them to the show to be displayed for the judging. Please contact the school if you can help with this activity.

Mrs McIntosh – Long Service LeaveThis Friday, 4 April, will be Mrs McIntosh’s last day for Term 1 as she is taking leave next week. She is leaving the K/1 students in the capable hands of Mrs Leonie Benson.

Barrington PS Tennis TeamLast Wednesday I had the pleasure of accompanying our tennis team to Bulahdelah for some singles and doubles matches against Bulahdelah PS. Our team were victorious and managed to win 44 games to Bulahdelah’s 26. I was particularly impressed with the great sportsmanship displayed by both schools. Thank you to the parents and grandparents who made the big trip to support their kids. We would also like to express a BIG thank you to Toni Laurie for giving up many lunch hours to coach the kids. The team will now play Forster PS early next term. Good luck guys! Mrs McIntosh

‘Have a go @ GHS’As part of our school’s promotion of Quality Education within the Gloucester community we will hold an information evening on

Thursday 3 April from 6.00 – 7.30pmWe are inviting all community members, especially any families considering Gloucester HS as an option for their children’s high school education.

The evening will run as ‘mock classroom experiences’ and will be informative and fun. Children and parents will be allocated a class and will rotate around a variety of subjects over the space of an hour.

Each of these subjects will expose parents to the classrooms, teachers and opportunities that are present at Gloucester High School.

The school will provide light snacks, tea and coffee.

We will start the evening with a general assembly in the hall, off to classes and then a final assembly to conclude the evening.

We hope you can afford the time and bring your kids along to have a fun and informative evening.
