iCar SimulationiCar Simulation

Simulation Model:

• 5x5 = 25 BTS with 50 cellular band channels• 56 ARS• Transmission range of BTS = 2 KM• ARS coverage area 500m radius

Coverage probability of 0.23• Each ARS can handle 3 cellular band channels• 25’000 MHs initially placed with uniform distribution• Simulated with GloMoSim

BT IWF for Cellular Phones?BT IWF for Cellular Phones?

Benefits:

• load balance in Hotspots• lower radio emission• lower power consumption• “easy” extension of Cellular Network• Authentication and Billing Systems (Cellular) can be reused

Open Issues:

Just an other RAN of the UMTS Core Network? BT range too short?

BT as Ad Hoc relay for cellular BT as Ad Hoc relay for cellular phones?phones?

BT

BTBT

Benefits:

• Service Detection within the Bluetooth Stack (Access to BTS as service)• Ad Hoc behavior of BT (PAN Profile)• Lower BTS density• Billing and Authentication Systems (Cellular) reused• Lower radio emission

Open Issues:

BT Tunnel end point? Trust management (Multi Provider Environment) Motivation for relaying (get free minutes?) Signaling and Voice GWs

GSM

Benefits:

• Billing and Authentication Systems (Cellular) reused• Lower radio emission (Inhouse)• Corporate Inhouse Calls like DECT• Real local Calls save Dch of BTS

Open Issues:

Separation of Voice/Data and Signaling Justification of the Cellular Signaling
