    GENERAL

Types B100 and C100 (Immersion Stem)

Temperature variations are sensed by a liquid filled sensor which expandsor contracts against a bellows which actuates a snap-action switch at apredetermined set point.

    Types E100 and F100 (Bulb & Capillary)

Temperature variations of a liquid filled sensing bulb are hydraulicallytransmitted to a bellows which actuates a snap-acting switch at apredetermined set point.

MAXIMUM TEMPERATURE IS THE HIGHEST TEMPERATURE TO WHICH A SENSING ELEMENT MAY BE OCCASIONALLY EXPOSED TO WITHOUT ADVERSELY AFFECTING SET POINT CALIBRATION AND

REPEATABILITY. MAXIMUM TEMPERATURE LIMITS STATED IN LITERATURE AND ON NAMEPLATE MUST NEVER BE EXCEEDED, EVEN BY TEMPERATUREOVERSHOOTS IN THE SYSTEM. OCCASIONAL OPERATION OF UNIT UPTO MAX. TEMPERATURE IS ACCEPTABLE (E.G., START-UP, TESTING).CONTINUOUS OPERATION SHOULD BE RESTRICTED TO THE DESIGNATED ADJUSTABLE RANGE.

    MOUNTING

INSTALL UNIT WHERE SHOCK, VIBRATION AND TEMPERATUREFLUCTUATIONS ARE MINIMAL. DO NOT MOUNT UNIT IN AMBIENTTEMPERATURES EXCEEDING PUBLISHED LIMITS. 100 SERIES

TEMPERATURE SWITCHES CAN BE MOUNTED IN ANY POSITION, PROVIDEDTHE ELECTRICAL CONDUIT IS NOT FACING UP. ORIENT UNIT SO THATMOISTURE IS PREVENTED FROM ENTERING THE ENCLOSURE.

For remote mounting, mount the unit via the (2) 1/4 screw clearance holeson the enclosure (See Dimensions on back page.) Fully immerse the bulband 6 capillary in the control zone. It is generally desirable to place thebulb close to the heating or cooling source in order to sense temperature

fluctuations quickly. Be sure to locate the bulb so that it will not be exposedto temperatures beyond the instrument range limits.

FOR LOCAL MOUNTING, ALWAYS HOLD A WRENCH ON THETEMPERATURE HOUSING HEX WHEN MOUNTING UNIT. DO NOTTIGHTEN BY TURNING ENCLOSURE. THIS WILL DAMAGE SENSOR

AND WEAKEN SOLDERED OR WELDED JOINTS.

    Part I - Installation

Remove the two screws retaining the cover and cover gasket. A 1/2 NPTconduit connection is located on the left side of the enclosure. Two cast-in7/8 diameter knockouts for electrical conduit are located on the side andrear of enclosure. These can easily be knocked out by placing the bladeof a screwdriver in the groove and tapping sharply with a hammer.

Connect conduit to the enclosure and wire directly to the switch terminalsaccording to local and national electrical codes. Bring the wires up toterminals from the rear of the enclosure allowing enough slack so as notto affect switch movement when making setting adjustments. The threeswitch terminals are clearly labeled common, norm open, and normclosed. If lead wires are supplied, color coding is as follows:

SPDT Common (COM) VioletNormally Open (NO) BlueNormally Closed (NC) Black

A grounding screw and clamp (cast in symbol) is provided which meets a35 lb. pull test. Keep the wire as short as possible to prevent interferencewith the plunger and, when provided, the adjustable deadband switchwheel (option1519).

    Tools Needed3/16 open end wrench

NOTE: For set point adjustments and recalibration, immerse sensor(immersion stem or bulb and 6" of capillary) in a calibrated temperaturesource and stabilize unit.

    Types C100 and F100

Remove cover. Switch has a hex adjustment screw inside enclosure (SeeFigure 1). If switch transfer point differs from actual temperature, adjustsetting. To raise the temperature setting, turn the hex towards the left(clockwise). To lower the temperature setting, turn the screw towards theright (counter-clockwise). When making adjustments, do not exceed themaximum temperature rating on nameplate.

    RECOMMENDED PRACTICES AND WARNINGS

United Electric Controls Company recommends careful considerationof the following factors when specifying and installing UE pressureand temperature units. Before installing a unit, the Installationand Maintenance instructions provided with unit must be read andunderstood.

To avoid damaging unit, proof pressure and maximum temperaturelimits stated in literature and on nameplates must never beexceeded, even by surges in the system. Operation of the unit up tomaximum pressure or temperature is acceptable on a limited basis(e.g., start-up, testing) but continuous operation must be restrictedto the designated adjustable range. Excessive cycling at maximumpressure or temperature limits could reduce sensor life.

A bac -up unit is necessary for applications where damage toa primary unit could endanger life, limb or property. A high orlow limit switch is necessary for applications where a dangerousrunaway condition could result.

The adjustable range must be selected so that incorrect, inadvertent or malicious setting at any range point cannot resultin an unsafe system condition.

Install unit where shoc , vibration and ambient temperaturefluctuations will not damage unit or affect operation. Whenapplicable, orient unit so that moisture does not enter theenclosure via the electrical connection. When appropriate, thisentry point should be sealed to prevent moisture entry.

Unit must not be altered or modified after shipment. Consult UEif modification is necessary.

Monitor operation to observe warning signs of possible damageto unit, such as drift in set point or faulty display. Chec unitimmediately.

Preventative maintenance and periodic testing is necessary forcritical applications where damage could endanger property orpersonnel.

Electrical ratings stated in literature and on nameplate mustnot be exceeded. Overload on a switch can cause damage, evenon the first cycle. Wire unit according to local and nationalelectrical codes, using wire size recommended in installationsheet.

Do not mount unit in ambient temp. exceeding published limits.LIMITED WARRANTY

    Part II - AdjustmentsTools Needed

    - 5/16" open end wrenchFor set point adjustment and re-calibration, connect the "High" pressure portto a calibrated pressure source.

Set point adjustment is achieved by varying the gap between the mechanicalactuator and the plunger on the electrical switch

To raise the differential pressure setting, turn the 5/16" hex head screw left(clockwise).

To lower the differential pressure setting, turn the 5/16" hex head screw right(counter-clockwise).

Adjustable Deadband OptionJ21K models with option code 1520 incorporate a snap-switch with integraladjustment wheel. Turning this wheel raises or lowers the pressure riseset point. The fall set point remains constant. Consult factory for additionalinformation.

    GENERAL

BEFORE INSTALLING, CHECK THE SENSOR MODEL SELECTED FORCOMPATIBILITY TO THE PROCESS MEDIA IN CONTACT WITH THESENSOR AND WETTED PARTS.

The J21K Differential Pressure Switch utilizes opposing metal bellows to detectpressure differences between two pressure sources. When the pressure at thehigh port exceeds the pressure at the low port by a pre-determined amount(set point), the mechanism operates a single snap-action electrical switch.Control set point may be adjusted by turning the internal adjustment hex screw(see Part II - Adjustments).

DIFFERENTIAL PROOF PRESSURE* LIMITS STATED IN THE LITERATURE AND ON NAMEPLATE MUST NEVER BE EXCEEDED, EVEN BYSURGES IN THE SYSTEM. OCCASIONAL OPERATION OF UNIT UP TODIFFERENTIAL PROOF PRESSURE IS ACCEPTABLE (E.G., START-UP,

TESTING). CONTINUOUS OPERATION SHOULD NOT EXCEED THEDESIGNATED MAX WORKING PRESSURE.

*Differential Proof PressureThe maximum differential pressure to which a pressure sensor may beoccasionally subjected, which causes no permanent damage (e.g., start-up,testing). The unit may require calibration.
