The ministry of commerce ,as the apex body is responsible for all policy decisions concerning export promotion.
The department is responsible for the country’s external trade and all matters concerned with it ,such as commercial relations with other
countries ,state trading export promotional measures ,regulation and promotion of certain export oriented industries and commodities.
BOARD OF TRADE Constituted in 1991,headed by the
commerce ministers. Provides a meaningful dialogue between
government and industry. The deputy minister of commerce is the
boards vice chairman The board reviews half yearly the
performance of country's economy in its financial aspect and considers policies relating to export promotion.
ZONAL EXPORT AND IMPORT ADVISORY COMMITTES
o Set up in July 1968o Helps to make a detailed study of the
export possibilities of the commodities exported from different regions.
o Advice the government on specific problems of exports from these regions
Western zone(Bombay)
Southern zone(madras)
Eastern zone(Calcutta)
Northern zone(Kanpur)
EXPORT PROMOTION COUNCILSa) For the promotion of export of specific
commodities or groups of productsb) There are about 20 export promotion councils
in Indiac) Registered under the companies act,1956 as
non profit organization.d) The function of the councils are broadly to
advice the government ,the local authorities and public bodies on the policies to be pursued and the step to expand the exporters of the commodities grown and manufactured in the state.
TRADE DEVELOPMNT AUTHORITY TDA ,Set up at resisted society includes and organizes entrepreneurs ,largely in the medium and small-scale sectors to develop their individual export capabilities. set up in 1970It deals with the package assistance to enterprise at micro level after identifying the potential of their products and their requirements for assistance.Being a non trading institution ,TDA does not enter in to the direct commercial transaction ,but confines itself in to a catalyst role.
COMMODITY BOARDS
i. Statutory boards dealing with the entire range of problems of production ,development , marketing etc
ii. Similar functions as done by the export promotion councils
iii.They advice the government on policy matters such as fixing the quotas for exports the signing of trade agreements with foreign countries.
IV. They also undertake promotional activities such as participation in exhibitions and trade fair ,sponsoring delegations, quality inspection etc

boards ,Bombay The rubber board ,kottayam The cardamom board ,cochin The tobacco board ,(AP)
EXPORT PROMOTION BOARD ( EPB) The relatively poor performance on the
export during 1996-97 ,promoted the constitution of a new body known as EPB
The EPD has taken significant decision on speedy up clearance of export air cargo ,co-ordination among infrastructural agencies and giving priority to sectors like electronics and garments.
CABINET COMMITTEE ON FOREIGN TRADE (CCFI)
This high level committee with prime minister as chairman ,was constituted in July 1998
To review the export performance ,deliberate policy issues and introduce measures to accelerate exports.
EXPORT CREDIT OF GUARANTEE CORPORATION OF INDIA LTD ,BOMBAY(ECGC)
Incorporated in 1957 It is a company wholly owned by the
government of India ,functioning under the administrative control of the ministry of commerce and managed by a board of director representing the government ,banking ,insurance trade and industrial sectors.
INDIAN INSTITUTE OF FOREIGN TRADE (IIFT) Set up by the government of India in
1954 The main activities include training of
personal ,commodity studies ,overseas market surveys in India
It provides consultancy to export enterprise
It distribute market information through “foreign trade review “and “foreign trade bulletin”
MARINE PRODUDT EXPRT DEVELOPMENT AUTHORITY (MPEDA)
.Came in to being September 1972
Importers and exporters both could obtain information relating to the markets and marine products from MPEDA
INDIAN TRADE PROMOTION ORAGANISATION ITPO came in to being in January 1992 To promote export and import through
the medium of trade fairs held in India and abroad
It holds buyer seller markets and conduct programs and undertakes through print and electronic media
AGIRCULTURE AND PROCESED FOOD PRODUCTS EXPORT DEVELOPEMNT AUTHORITY (APEDA)
APEDA came to being on august 1856 It serves as s focal point for agricultural
exports ,particularly marketing of processed food in value added forms with a view to increase the export of agricultural and processed food products
EXPORT PROMOTION COUNCIL OF INDIA (EIC) , CALCUTTA The EIC , a statutory body ,is
responsible for the enforcement of quality control and compulsory preshipment inspection of various exportable commodities.
This council organizes through inspection all over the country ,preshipment inspection of products and commodities notified for compulsory inspection.
850 items are subject to compulsory inspection
INDIAN INSTITUTE OF PACKAGING,(IIP) BOMBAY This institute is set up by the
government of India in collaboration with the industry with the sole purpose of maintaining ,packaging standards of our country compatible with those of advanced countries.
The IIP is registered under the Societies Registration Act
main objective of IIP is to stimulate consciousness of the need for food packaging amongst Indian exporters
THE COUNCIL OF ARBITRATION (ICA)NEW DELHI
I. Promoters arbitration as a means of setting commercial disputes and popularizes arbitration among the trades particularly those engaged in international trade.
II. Set up in 1965III. ICA is the apex body for promoting
and encouraging amicable settlement of trade dispute for creating India's goodwill in the field foreign trade.
FEDERATION OF INDIAN EXPORT ORGANISATION (FIEO) Apex body of various export promotion
organization Set up in 1965 This federation is a common
coordinating platform for the various export organizations, including the commodity councils and boards and services institutions and organizations.
TRADE FAIR AUTHORITY OF INDIA(TFAI) Was set up in 1977 Main functions include
organizing ,promoting and participating in trade fairs and other exhibitions, setting up showrooms in India and abroad to undertakes trading activities in items related with such fairs to promote of new items and diversify India's export.
This organization came in to existence by merging three different units 1.Directorate of exhibitions and commercial publicity 2.The Indian council of trade fair and exhibitions 3.The trade fair organizationThe TFAI has been organizing wholly Indian exhibitions and India's participation in several international fairs
INDIAN INETRNATIOANL MARKETING CENTER with an objective of promoting export of
Indian product ,establishing a market center ,warehousing facilities and processing activities both in India and abroad and act as a nodal agency to bring buyers and sellers together
DIRECTORATE GENERAL OF COMMERCIAL INTELLIGENCE AND STATISTICS ,(DGCI)$,CALCUTTA
The directorate conduct studies on various topics relating to promotion of trade .
It helps in the settlement of commercial dispute and provides Indian businessmen going abroad with letters of introduction to Indian commercial representatives concerned .
•It also maintain commercial library which is widely used by the exporters, importers and research scholars and others .•The primary responsibility of this agency is collection ,compilation ,and dissemination of trade information ,both inland and foreign.
EXPORT HOUSES AND TRADING HOUSES Export houses and trading ,recognized
by the government are private business helpful in export development.
They benefit from financial assistance from the market development agency for approved activities including participation in international trade fairs ,sponsorship of trade delegations etc.
DIRECTOR GENERAL OF FOREIGN TRADE (DGFT),NEW DELHI
The DGFT overseas exemption of export import policies through a network of 31 subordinate offices located around the country.
The wide network of offices helps exporters especially in exporting import licensing
THE STAE TRADING CORPORATION OF INDIAN LTD (STC)
Was set up as a private limited company in 1956 and later converted in to public limited company in 1959
This corporations have 5 subsidiaries 1. The handicraft and handlooms export corporation
if Indian ltd 2. Projects and equipment corporation of Indian ltd 3. Cashew corporation of India ltd 4. Central cottage industries corporation of India
ltd ,a subsidiary of HHFC 5. Tea trading corporation of India ltd
MINERALS AND METALS TRADING CORPORATION (MMTC) The minerals and metals trading
corporations deals with export and import of canalized item like ore coal, chrome ore ,bauxite ,and non canalized item likes diamonds and import of non-ferrous metal ,industrial raw materials ,steel ,raw materials for fertilizers and finished fertizers,sulphur and rock phosphate.
EXIM BANK Is a public sector financial institution Established on 1st January 1982 It was established by an act of
parliament ,for the purpose of financing ,facilitating and promoting foreign trade of India.
The present focus of exim bank is on export finance
INDIAN GOVERNMENT TRADE REPRESENTATIVE ABROAD
This institution developed and strengthened with in the country are supplemented by the Indian trade representatives abroad .
The trade representatives in the embassies and consultants are continually being strengthened to enable them effectively support the effort which being made with in the country.

CONCLUSION The central and state government has
taken a number of measures to promote export which has been difficult.
Monitor export proposals submitted by the state government to the ministry of commerce .
However government reluctant to promote export activities because EXPORT NEVER BECOME THE NO.1 PRIORITY OF THE STATE GOVERNMENT AGENDA BECAUSE REVENUE NEVER GO TO STAE COFFERS.
The government generally lacks the required expertise for export promotion ,additional facilities for export orientation ,development means- more cost for the state government, information about international marketing ,etc is lacking among the state administration.
