Short Biography: IDIS “Viitorul”

Founded: June 1993, Operational since Sept-1996. Place: Chisinau, Moldova, non-commercial, not-for-

profit, non-governmental organization, independent and non-politically affiliated think tank

necessary preconditions for peace, security and cooperation in the region

IDIS’s Mission: We believe in the moral argument of liberal

democracy, free markets and peaceful cooperation. We commit ourselves with the difficult task of transforming Moldova into a trustful, reliable and legitimate member of the European family of nations.

We are positive that our work will serve as a powerful incentive for long-lasting transformation of our society, state institutions and mentalities in Moldova. Regional cooperation with similar think tanks from Moldova, Ukraine, Romania, Bulgaria and other countries of the South Eastern Europe is crucial for achieving these goals.

IDIS Priority Areas: 

Initiate public debates on topical issues for the public sector reform, good governance and economic transformation. Our discussions attract key figures in civil society, academia, media, politicians and other people who have a serious impact on the public opinion. Raising public awareness of challenges of democratic development constitutes the objective of such activities.

Civic and langugae integration of minority groups, specific project of ethnic integration for minority populations that may feel isolated from political and civic life is another priority of our dedicated work. We work on early warning and early response in the areas of our country that may transpose risk potential. Work on problems of local governance constitutes a considerable element of these activities.

Economic Research and Policing in the Regulatory Framework. IDIS is known also for its regular work with OECD on various assessments, reports, baseline surveys and presentations on SMEs, state policies on small business. We have conducted a series of research, policy-oriented, and awareness-raising conferences and workshops, published a text-book and a reader on civil-military relations in Georgia.

IDIS Priority Issues Crisis Management Package: in particular on

identifying remedies for the resolution of various land, property litigations, conflicting competencies among public authorities, A similar CMP is oriented towards the identification of viable remedies for the existing ‘frozen’ conflict in Moldova (elaboration of the ‘3D Strategy’, promoting effective solutions on regional security and confidence building measures.

Social Policy, qualitative and quantitative surveys, data analysis and support provided to the municipal and regional governments in prioritizing their role and responsibilities; case-studies on children and elderly at risk, social data assessed and software produced for the regional and local authorities.
