when choosing the color of your new kitchen orbathroom cabinets and counters, consider the sizeof the room. Lighter colors work better in a small room, giving the appearance of a larger space. Darker colors ina larger room give a cozier feel. These are general rulesbut there is more to consider. Light coming into the roomvia windows and sky lights, furniture color and art work allmust be considered. Your contractor can help you createa space so you will love where you live.

    the stereotypes about the region.

The most diverse state in the Unit-

ed States is not California or New

    York, he said. Its Oklahoma.

When a rerun of his documentarybeat out all the network programming

the next week, NBC took notice and he

    was hired for Today.

    Last week, Webster University

journalism students got a taste of the

storytelling skill that made Dotson fa-

mous. He and a group of aspiring com-

    municators visited riot-torn Ferguson.

I said, Stop and look around. What

are you seeing? he said. The essence

of storytelling is connecting the seem-

    ingly unconnected and showing people

things they might miss even standing

next to you. Youve got to open up

    your ve senses.

    He remembered covering a tornado

that tore through an evergreen forestyears before leaving a trail of destruc-

tion and a distinctive pine needle

    scent.

My opening line for NBC News

was You could smell the path of the

storm before you could see it, he said.

Its the same thing (in Ferguson). You

dont just keep going back to the same

place where they are putting owers

down on the sidewalk. Go around the

    corner.

Thats where you might nd some

    interesting people, some real solutions

and maybe a great piece of journal-ism. Thats true even in the age of

Twitter-sized sound bites, he said. Its

not tech skills that will get the next

    generation of reporters their jobs.

    Everything I learned in college

is now in a museum, said Dotson.

    White gloves for lm, typewriters,

Rolodexes. While it is a good thing

to keep up with the cutting edge of

technology, storytelling in any form is

the most important thing because the

    shortest distance between two people

    is a good story.

hearing was rst held in August and

due to the large response on the issue,

    has been continued numerous times.

On Tuesday, it was again extended to

    Nov. 4.

    Over 40 individuals attended Tues-

days meeting. Seven of them spoke on

    the educational zoning issue.

Paige Turner, who lives on Chest-

nut Hill Lane, asked the council to

consider the needs of the many not

    just the few.

In the past, the city has focused

on the needs of individuals or small

groups out of concern they might po-

tentially be harmed, as opposed to the

needs of the whole, she said.

    Sebastian Bellomo, who lives on

Summit Avenue and is an adjunct fac-

    ulty member with Webster Universi-

ty, suggested maybe its time the city

council hit the reset button and get a

serious dialogue going with the educa-

tional institutions with a few more

weeks or months to get this right, it

would be benecial to all parties.

Daniel Hellinger, who lives on Flor-

ence Avenue and also is employed by

Webster University, said he was con-

cerned that the legislation not prevent

    the university from making reason-

able use of unused Eden property. He

insisted that some residents claims of

an effect on property values if that co-

operation was allowed to continue was

    unsubstantiated.
