Connections with A Study in

Scarlet Many of the plot elements of A Study in Scarlet were incorporated into this mystery. For example, the murder scene, victim, motives, and other aspects paralleled the actual events in the novel.

The money and detective teams who must seek Sherlock Holmes for assistance also remain true in the novel, and his services to true detectives remains a major theme in many Sherlock Holmes books.
