HOW WE GOT HERE

inSite GPS was the direct result of a problem encountered by its founder: being on the road for months at a time with the pain of never knowing if his family was safe.

In 2013 Michael Harvey set out to fix the problem and inSite GPS was born.

HOW GPS WORKS

1.A constellation of

24 GPS satellites orbits the Earth and can be accessed by any receiver where there is a direct line of sight to 4 or more satellites.

2.GPS satellites

continuously broadcast radio signals providing their locations, status, and precise time using atomic clocks.

3. A GPS device

receives the radio signals noting the exact time of their arrival and uses them to calculate its distance from each satellite in view.

4. Once the device

knows its exact distance from at least FOUR satellites, it can determine its position on Earth.

THE PROBLEM WITH IPS (Indoor Positioning Systems)

FRAGMENTED TECHNOLOGY

• Due to its infancy, there is currently no ubiquitous standard for indoor positioning technology. Radio signal attenuation and costly hardware systems are prohibiting proliferation.

EXPENSIVE (“ASSET-HEAVY”)

• The big IPS successes so far require complex Wi-Fi sensor systems that are layered with hardware and infrastructure costs that businesses and property owners have to bear the cost of to install. This also prohibits scalability.

EFFICACY

• Despite the name, most IPS solutions are so coarse that they cannot be used to determine orientation or direction of a user.

• Wi-Fi systems are only accurate within 10-20 meters making it difficult to determine which floor of a building a user is on.
