JEAN-PIERRE LUTGEN It all started just after he finished his university degree in international public affairs from the Université catholique de Louvain (Belgium). Because he did not want to follow the path mapped out by his family already comfortably ensconced in public life, he founded an import-export company with a friend to sell promotional items such as caps, t-shirts and the famous lapel badges. After 20 years in the promotional sector, Jean-Pierre came to the idea to enter in the retail sector with a new concept: a colorful designed watch that is accessible to as many people as possible with attractive packaging and affordable prices.Today, Ice-Watch is an international brand sold in more than 70 countries. His team sold 400.000 watches in 2009 and has a target of 2.000.000 watches and 5000 points of sales for 2010.

ICE - WatchWhat time is it? It is a very simple query, but it is probably one of the most universally asked questions. Our everyday lives now move so fast that we must constantly keep track of time personally. The wristwatch was once a luxury item but it has evolved into a vi-tal tool used by almost everyone. Today you would be hard pressed to find someone without a watch. This would seem to suggest total saturation of this market. Still the watch market is very dynamic. Much more than a simple device that enables you to al-ways know the time, the timepiece you wear makes a statement about your personality. Hence, the revival of expensive tech-mech watches and the popularity of the watch as a disposable fashion accessory.
Colourful, fashionable, and affordable, the Ice-watch concept, launched in 2007 by Belgian entrepreneur Jean-Pierre Lutgen quickly grew into a fashion phenomenon all over the world. Aided by a remarkable launch in 2009 at Baselworld, the biggest watch expo of the world, and product placement with celebrities like David Guetta, ice-watch made a huge leap forward. Currently more than 120,000 watches are sold every month. The brand is present in more than 70 countries and a staggering 3,000 outlets worldwide. The plastic timepieces are designed in Belgium and assembled in China using high quality Japanese movement Myota.
Typically, Ice-Watch is very proactive and fast in response to market demands. That strategy is in the business DNA of founder Jean-Pierre Lutgen who cut his teeth on the marketing of promotional items. ‘I always had this dream of launching my own brand. It is very fulfilling to make a name on the world stage from our Bastogne headquarters in the Ardennes. I am proud of my heritage and our success proves that it does not matter where you come from. Even when it is a small city or the countryside, you can achieve great things.’
