Ósbjørn Jacobsen of Henning Larsen Architects in cooperation withStudio Olafur Eliasson won the main prize Mies van der Rohe 2013 forContemporary Architecture for project Harpa – Reykjavik Concert Halland Conference Centre.

Ósbjørn has been stationed in Iceland in recent years, managing theconstruction of Harpa – Reykjavik Concert Hall and Conference Centre,which opened in August 2011. Thus, he has gained vast experience of

leading complex large-scale building projects with a broad range of national andinternational collaboration partners. For the time to come, Ósbjørn will have focus onpursuing new business opportunities in and around the Faroe Islands, where he is living,while at the same time working with concept and project development at the companyoffice in Copenhagen.

Harpa – Reykjavik Concert Hall and Conference Centre, Mies van der Rohe 2013 winner,was presented in INGLASS Warsaw 2014.

Harpa gathers inspiration from the northern lights and the dramatic Icelandic scenery.Situated on the border between land and sea, the Concert Hall stands out as a large,radiant sculpture reflecting both sky and harbour space as well as the vibrant life of thecity. The spectacular facades have been designed in close collaboration between HenningLarsen Architects, the Danish-Icelandic artist Olafur Eliasson and the engineeringcompanies Rambøll and ArtEngineering GmbH from Germany.

Charles Walker is consultant at Zaha Hadid Architects. He joined thearchitecture office in 2007.

Previously, he was Associate Director at Ove Arup and Partners, wherehe co-founded with then Vice Chairman Cecil Balmond, in 2000, theAdvanced Geometry Unit, specialising in geometrically complexstructures. Prior to that Charles was Director at boutique engineersAtelier One Ltd.

Charles studied architecture at the University of Waterloo in Ontario, Canada and thenobtained a post graduate degree in structural engineering studies in London at the ImperialCollege of Science, Technology and Medicine.

Charles is Head of Programming in Architecture at the Royal College of Art in London,since 2012. Prior to this Charles has been teaching at the Architectural Association Schoolof Architecture, from 2003-2010. In 2011 Charles was Visiting International Professor inEmerging technologies at TU Munich. Juan Coll-Barreu is professor at the Department of Architectural Design inthe Madrid School of Architecture (Universidad Politécnica de Madrid,Spain). He is Partener of COLL-BARREU ARQUITECTOS.

Juan Coll-Barreu is also a frequent lecturer in other universities andinstitutions. Among other prizes, he has won the Architecture COAVNprize, the International VETECO-ASAFAVE prize and he has beenawarded as finalist at Architecture FAD Prize twice. He has also been

selected for the Spanish Young Architects Show 1982-2002, and has won the VII SpanishYoung Architects Exhibition (1999-2001). He was also awarded with the Honor Mention ofAntonio Camuñas Foundation, that acknowledges the best under-40 architects.

BSc (Hons) DipArch MArch ARB RIBA, Wilkinson Eyre ArchitectsMatthew Potter joined Wilkinson Eyre Architects in 2004, was made anAssociate in 2008 and Associate Director in 2012. He has beeninvolved in a number of award winning projects across the commercial,cultural and education sectors. He has recently finished his work asProject Architect forSingapore’s Gardens by the Bay ConservatoryComplex – two sustainably cooled glasshouses with a combinedfootprint of more than 2ha. Matthew has worked on this scheme

throughout its development from the competition winning scheme submitted in 2006 to itscompletion; the project opened to the public at the end of June 2012, and was recentlyawarded the World Building of the Year at the World Architecture Festival. He worked inSingapore for 18 months, liaising with the client, local consultants and contractor andoverseeing the delivery of the façade and interior displays.

Prior to his work in Singapore, he was part of the team responsible for the award-winningGuangzhou International Finance Centre, where his role involved the resolution of thecomplex geometries related to the structural diagrid and cladding.He has worked on anumber of the office’s university schemes: as part of the bid team for the Hauser Forum onthe University of Cambridge’s West Cambridge Campus and as Project Architect for thePhase B of Anglia Ruskin University’s Rivermead Campus, the major component of whichis new Faculty Building and Health School. This project, and his previous work on thePhase A Student Centre and Sports Hall, form part of a new campus masterplanned byWilkinson Eyre. Matthew has also worked on a number of commercial projects, including ascheme for the London Borough of Hammersmith & Fulham which involved therationalisation of council accommodation, mixed-use development and an improved publicrealm in Hammersmith town centre, and a major commercial project at Regents Place.

Serban Tiganas is an active architect and a trainer, preoccupied with theunderstanding and the evolution of Romanian architecture and especiallywith its growing impact on peoples lives.

He works in Cluj at Dico and Tiganas, also being one of the foundingpartners of the urbanism officePlanwerk, with whom he has taken ondevelopment strategies for cities and public space architecture in various

cities such as Sibiu, Miercurea Ciuc, Cluj-Napoca, Targu Mures, Brașov, Timisoara orOradea. He teaches to young students at the Faculty of Architecture and Urbanism at theTechnical University of Cluj-Napoca.

He is currently the president of the Order of the Architects of Romania, institution insidewhich he has initiated the study of Architecture as a profession and of The Policy forArchitecture in Romania.

Cluj Arena, a recent work signed by Serban Tiganas was nominated for Mies van der RoheAward 2013.

Arch. Vlad Gaivoronschi, born in Cluj-Napoca, Romania, has graduatedfrom Faculty of Civil Engineering, Architecture department, at “TraianVuia“ Politechnical Institute of Timisoara and “Ion Mincu” University ofArchitecture of Bucharest. He is the President of the Romanian Order ofArchitects – Timis branch.

Vlad Gaivoronschi is the main partner of Andreescu & Gaivoronschiarchitecture office in Timisoara.

Among the most recent projects in the portfolio of Andreescu & Gaivoronschi is the VisitorCentre and Open Air Theatre for the Iron Gates National Park on the Danube, Berzasca,Romania, the gateway for the spectacular Iron Gates National Park extending from thebanks of the Danube up to the crest of the Banat mountains, in the south-west ofRomania. The main feature of the Centre is a protruding pier, extending from the linearwooden platform embracing the north bank of the river; atop the pier is the main building –the Open-Air Theatre.

For the “HARMONIA” Senior residence project, the architecture office received anomination at MIES VAN DER ROHE European Architecture Prize 2010, Nomination atTimis Order of Architects Annual Architecture Event 2010, Nomination at the BucharestArchitecture Biennial 2010 and The National BAUMIT Prize 2011. In 2010, the office wasshortlisted for the World Architecture Festival in Barcelona.

The posters of the event have been published in over 19 specialized magazinesmentioned above. Moreover, our articles have appeared together with the posters inprinted form in the specialized national media, and online in the international media. Thefollowing article and poster has been published in the same number of Archivolta, 4 (60)2013:

This second poster was published, in English,in Archilovers, a well-known internationalarchitecture portal, in December 2013,announcing the lineup of the speakers in thefirst edition of INGLASS Warsaw 2014, takingplace on February 4th. It also announces theorganizers, ABplus Events and the Associationof Polish Architects – SARP, the official partnerof the event, as well as the partner, sponsor,official car, main media partner and the mediapartners.

The articles were published in the international media as well, in English, in onlinepublications such as Archi-World Europe, Archiweb.Cz, Archilovers, E-Architect, that havebeen our media partners for the event, as well as other specialized magazines, portals andforums that have not been our partners but have, nevertheless, been interested to sharethe news about INGLASS throughout Europe as well as the United States and China. In conclusion, the first edition of INGLASS Warsaw, organized by ABplus Events and theAssociation of Polish Architects - SARP has been promoted both in the nationalspecialized media, as well as the international media. Every article has been dedicated tothe event itself, to the speakers, but also to the participating companies. The event hasbeen deemed as highly successful, of interest to our public, which could be noticed fromthe media appearances as well, online and print.
