Message from Chapter Chair Dear Young Indians, It is an absolute pleasure to write to you in our first newsletter – currently titled IndorYi CONNECT (till the time we have a better name!), based on the Yi National newsletter name - CONNECT.

It has been more than four months since I took over as the chapter chair from Praveen Agarwal, who has set very high standards to achieve. However, I rest assured that we’ll make a lasting impact on the community, like in the past years, only because of the formidable team of new & existing members, the executive council, Geetesh (Co-Chair), Pooja (EM), and with guidance from the Yi National team, CII leadership & secretariat in Indore/MP, and Yi Indore’s Steering Committee. It has been wonderful to lead Yi Indore chapter and I’m thankful to each of you for this opportunity.

Over the past few years, I have realized that there’s no other organization like Yi in India, and even abroad, where we get an excellent opportunity to impact the lives and mindsets of the youth, and thus shape our country’s future. You’ve been reading about the growing footprint of Yi nationally & internationally too. I experienced it most when I got a chance to be a part of the India delegation to the G20 Young Entrepreneurs Summit in Mexico, in June 2012, where I got to exchange ideas and problems of entrepreneurship from so many others there.

Yi Indore has also firmed up plans to impact the youth of the city & surrounding areas in education, healthcare, environment, entrepreneurship, and preservation of arts, sports, & culture, among others. In March 2012, our chapter made an impactful organization of the Earth Hour activities that showcased the determination of the youth in making positive changes. Soon after, we planted many trees on the World Environment Day in Indore & Pithampur, and participated in the Kahn River Conservation Awareness Rally. We have been interacting with kids of the slum schools on occasions such as the World Health Day. Our plans for the Yi Role Model School have also been firming up.

As you are aware, our plantation activities, with enormous help from Mr. Ambrish Kela’s Scientech Eco Foundation, are also gathering momentum with plantation under progress at various sites such as schools in Pithampur, Limbodi lake area that was given to us for plantation by Indore’s mayor, and Kasturbaagraam Trust’s land.

I In this inaugural issue, I welcome you to have a glimpse of the activities we done had so far, in different verticals, as you may not have gotten a chance to attend them earlier. Ankit D. Mittal

Yi World Health Day: Creating Health Awareness & Interaction with Students

Yi Indore chapter organized a small but extremely impactful healthcare event on Saturday, 05 May 2012 at “The Anna Bhau Saathe School” in one of the slums areas of Indore. The members engaged the school kids with various interesting activities such as simple quizzing & made them aware of various crucial topics on health and hygiene, and for having actively participating in the quiz, Yi Indore gave away attractive prizes in the form of crayons to the kids, who were overjoyed. This was followed by the distribution of some nutritional food including Gur-Chana (Jaggery-Gram) & Bananas. Members were happily surprised at the knowledge imparted to & retained by these kids in the slum, which included their information on different countries, continents, places, ancient kingdoms of India, etc.

Upcoming HerYitage Week Activities:

Yi Indore will celebrate the ‘Yi National Heritage Week’ from August 21 to 28, 2012

A. HerYitage Tour: On 26th August 2012, Sunday, Yi Indore members and even outsiders will embark on the heritage tour, like last year. We will visit the majestic Lal Bagh Palace, the magnificent Krishnapuraa & Boliyaa Sarkaar Chattris, and the Indore museum that houses some of the very special articles that show earliest signs of Indore’s civilizations – some 3,000 years ago! The highlight of the tour will be our interaction with a renowned historian, who will share with us the rich history about these monuments.

B. Photography Contest: From 21st to 28th August, 2012, we are planning a special event this year, in our bit to conserve Indore’s built-heritage. Open to all photographers from Indore, we are inviting good images of any heritage monument in the city or even outside Indore, which have to be clicked only during the HerYitage Week. The entries would be judged by a very renowned professional photographer. Top 3 photographers will get attractive prizes and all good photos will be uploaded on the Yi’s Indore HerYitage facebook page, with photographers’ names, and the images will also be used across Yi, nationally.

C. AncYient Forgotten Games 24th August 2012, Friday, will also be a special activity, for around 30 Yi members. We will leave our tablets and gaming consoles behind and play classic Indian games – board games that have been played for centuries, but may have been forgotten in the hustle-bustle of the modern life. They have elegant rules, deep strategy, tactical opportunities, and they all continue to delight modern-day gamers.

D. Under-Privileged Kids to Indore Museum: The HerYitage Week is not just for members, it is also a time to enlighten with Indore & India’s rich cultural Heritage to those kids who do not get such chance otherwise. On August 25, 2012, Yi Indore will be taking around 35 kids from one of its 2 proposed role model schools on an Indore Museum tour. They’ll be taken around the museum on a guided tour by the same historian, Dr S. K. Bhatt, along with Yi members. We hope to see many Yi members in various events spread across the HerYitage Week and thus contributing in promoting our heritage and also enriching their own knowledge!
