Dear Friends of Holy Spirit, The women’s Christ Renews His Parish weekend for the English community is coming up on Sep-tember 17-18th. This year for the first time, the upstairs of the parish center will be used for the over-night housing of the participants (in the past they have slept in class-rooms!). The accommodations will be a little better and it will maintain all the activities in the same building. I want to encourage all of you to consider attending one of these great weekends. I deeply believe in the value of this week-end and how it helps people grow in their relationship with God and other parishioners. The men’s weekend will follow on October 15-16th. This week we are meeting to decide about the water leak in the school heating system (in a pipe between the buildings) and also an air conditioner that is dying. I’ll keep you informed where we will go with this. We had the first school Mass last Wednesday and I talked with the kids about how we should participate in the Mass. My directions to them might be helpful for eve-ryone. So, here they are: 1. The Mass involves everyone, not just the priest. When responses are asked for (e.g. “The Lord be with youLAnd also with you”), do so in a clear, loud voice. 2. Singing is a key way we praise God. Regardless of the quality of our singing voices, everyone should be holding a hymnbook and singing. We only learn music by practicing and we need more people “practicing” at Mass!! 3. Kneeling is an important time in the Mass, but the kneelers should be raised and lowered by hand and quiet-ly. 4. A small bow should be given before receiving Holy Communion and if a person receives in the hand, the Host should be put into the mouth BEFORE one starts walking away. 5. Finally (I didn’t say this to the kids since the teach-ers take care of this one), we should arrive BEFORE the opening hymn and stay until we are finished with the CLOSING hymn. Leaving after Communion or after the blessing is not proper. God’s Blessings and Love,

HOST FAMILY WANTED!

Scecina families, Still interested in hosting an international student? There is a 16-year-old boy from Denmark looking for an American high school to attend this year. If you are interested, his bio is below:

Rasmus, age 16 from Denmark; he is the oldest of four children. An active gymnast, gymnastic coach, runner, film editor and guitarist, Rasmus is a very busy and in the past, still had time to work a part time job. Recently he completed half a marathon with some of his friends. At the start of this school year he enrolled in a boarding school about an hour away from his home – he is usual-ly home on weekends. This experience has given him a leg up on what it will be like as an exchange student; sharing a room and having a contact person that repre-sents his parents. Rasmus’ father, a few aunts and cousins were exchange students several years ago and this has spurred his interest. Rasmus is looking for-ward to his first contact with his new family and having a life-long relationship with them. (Cat allergy - no cats, dog OK if not in bedroom.)

If you are interested in hosting, please contact Allie Ross at [email protected].

Christ Renews His Parish Women’s Weekend Retreat

September 17 & 18, 2011

Are You Thirsty?

Have you ever woke up and realized you were thirsty? You would get up and get a glass of water or have a wonderful cup of coffee to quench your thirst. But what if you realized that your Spirit was thirsty? Do you heed to its desire as much as you do a dry mouth?

Why do we pay more attention to our natural body’s demands or wants than we do our spiritual ones? In the Bible, John 7:37-38 says:

On the last and greatest day of the festival, Jesus said in a loud voice, “Let anyone who is thirsty come to me and drink. Whoever believes in me, rivers of living water will flow from within them.”

We have this wonderful promise of fulfillment when we come to him to drink and yet we don’t!! Can we change that?

The living water is there when we seek him. He will comfort and bring peace. Trust him today. Let your spirit that is dry and thirsty be quenched.
