Marisol’s Life Information

Born as Marisol Escobar in 1930 In 1949 Marisol studied at Ecole des Beaux Arts and Academy

Julian, Paris In 1950, Marisol moved to New York and continued her studies

between 1951-1954 at Hans Hoffmann School, Provincetown, and at the Art students’ League, New York.

Marisol developed a interest in Mexican, Pre-Columbian, Pop Art, and American folk art . She then turned her attention to sculpture.

1964, Marisol made one of her most famous works of Art…”Women and dog” which depicts a group of fashionable middle-class housewives parading in public.

Marisol is considered to be a Pop Artist

Pop Art was….an art movement in the 1960’s where

artist’s such as Lichtenstein, Warhol, and Johns appropriated images from popular culture. Marisol’s art work utilizes figures from everyday life sometimes dressed in 60’s fashion. She was also considered a folk artist because of her use of carved found objects and primitive form.
