India is a land of diverse and complex culture.
Every other day in Indian subcontinent is a festival
and an occasion to celebrate. The most versati le
country on the planet earth, where at every 1 00 steps
the taste of water changes, for years has celebrated
the aura and gist of getting married in uniqueness
and style.
Indian marriages have always been associated
with affluence; pomp and glitz, marriage ti l l date
remain a great grand affair, a l ifelong issue which
needs to be made memorable. People seldom skip
an opportunity that has the possibi l ity of making his or
her marriage truly singular of its kind.
Peninsular India enjoys the climate divides, thereby
developing two different situations of getting married
as well .
To adjudge summers in India range from a high to
low in the different regions of the country. In the east,
summers are unusually overpowered by humidity and
dampness. In the west summers remain dry and
scratchy. Centre remains separated with intensive
heat, partial ly humid and partial ly dry. Down south the
weather in summers remains quite peaceful, due to
water bodies.
Indian cultural values and ethics are given up-level
priority when the topic of discussion is any
matrimonial ceremony. Participation of family,
relatives and sundries from the far-off places makes
summers the most apt time for getting married.
People in the distance are able to participate in
summer weddings.
To look extraordinari ly
charming and graceful is
the long preserved dream
of every bride and groom
in their wedding,
Summers give them the
opportunity to flaunt their
sense of dressing.
Another complimentary
feature of the summers is
that they are colorful and
l ively l ike the rainbow’s VIBGYOR.
You may sport your favorite color without a
compromise.
Cotton, the king of Indian texti les is the most
trusted fabric for summers, Associated both with
comfort and royalty, cotton has undergone changes in
its avatar with the passage of time, making it more
revealing and rich than ever before. For a ‘B’ ‘U’ ‘tiful ’
dressing cotton has always remained the best-man
for the brides and the bridegrooms.
Summers are fol lowed by monsoon showers and
the month of shravan. All bright and sensational
colors ranging from maize yellow to peacock green
add grace to the bride’s closet,
I ronical ly true, but Indian women’s seldom fear
exposure, be it the chil ly winter weddings planned at
a farm house. Here in summers lasses and damsels
you have an ample chance to suffice both your
beauty and body. So, if your marriage is in the
making, why not go for a leisure packed summer-
wedding. A ful ly newer experience of l ife jam-packed
with the upcoming monsoon masti, that shall set your
feet to dance with the rhythm of nature.

'Indian Wedding Talks' is
overwhelmed to have an
interview with Vikram Singh
who is an accomplished Make-
up & Hair expert in fashion,
advertising campaigns,
magazine editorial shoots,
music videos, TV and fi lms.
Vikram has worked behind the
scenes on TV channels l ike Zee
Sports,Star News,Sony Tv,
SetMax, NDTV and also for
designers shoots for designer like
Manish Arora. He has also done make-
up & hair of celebrities in fi lms l ike Rajneeti,Four Two Ka One, Ek Second,"Gandhi to Hitler".He special izes in Bridal make up & hairstyles.
He also creates and cuts hair to suit one's
specific look.
Hi Vikram,
1. Tell us a bit aboutyourself?
I am original ly from
Gwalior, Madhya
Pradesh. After
finishing my 1 2th
from Gwalior, I
moved to Delhi.
Always having a
creative bent of
mind, I had
planned to study
fashion designing,
but accidently I
ended up doing a
styl ing course called
FMM (Fashion & MediaMakeup) from Pearl
Academy, Delhi
where I topped the 2004batch. Since then I
have been working in
the makeup and hair
field and it's the best
decision I 've made in
l ife.
2. How did your career begin in the world of beauty? After a 3 month stint with news channel Aaj Tak, as their styl ist, I
freelanced with Zee network in Delhi. One contact led to
another and my work found appreciation. 4 months with Zee
and they offered me the entire makeup and hair contract of
their channel Zee Sports. And that was the big break for me.
3. As a highly demanded makeup artist, are there any celebrities whomyou would like to work with?I would love to work with Kareena Kapoor. I think she’s got an
amazing face and it wil l be fun working on her face. Normally s
he looks very good but I can definitely do something more to
enhance her beauty. The other person is Kate Moss, I 've loved her
sense of style since she began modell ing.
4. How would you describe your signature look and what is it about your stylethat sets you apart from other makeup artists? My signature look is smooth foundation - dark, well merged Smokey
eyes - nude lips with lot of gloss and well defined cheekbones.
5. What is the most memorable moment you have had while doing amakeup? For me, every makeup and hair assignment I do is unique
and special because each bride / model is different than the
other and the joy it gives each one of them is very fulfi l l ing.
6. What is the most important beauty advice that you can give towomen?I love the confidence that makeup can give to a woman. So
ideally, one should wear makeup that suits them, rather than
aping someone else. Besides this, I f you are an active woman,
you may not spend a lot of time on hair care, and often may
have it pul led back. This can cause damage or breakage to
your hair. Loose braids, can be less damaging on hair than
ponytai ls. Ensure that you use a quality conditioner during
regular washings wil l help keep hair moisturized and healthy.

7. What are some common beautymistakes that women make?Looking shabby - Women usually
pay more attention to how they
look when they step out rather
than overal l grooming. I t doesn't
real ly matter if you leave your
house or not, looking gorgeous
can help boost confidence and
improve your mood so looking
shabby is not an option.
Too much foundation - Pil ing on too
much foundation wil l exaggerate
fine l ines and leave the skin
looking washed out. So be wise
with usage of foundation.
Eyebrow Shape - Everyone has a
different face cut and the shape of
eyebrows differs accordingly. Most
women aren’t even aware of the
right shape of eyebrows to suit
their face. So identify your face cut
and accordingly get your eyebrows
done.
Using too much shimmer- Shimmer
on any part of your body can go
wrong if used in more than
recommended amounts. I f you
want shine in the form of makeup,
use a gloss based or shimmer
based foundation, so that the
shine is not overdone.
8. Do you feel that looking and feelingbeautiful is important in regard to awoman's confidence and selfesteem?
I think it’s very important.
Everyone should make an effort to
look good, not only on a special
occasion but also in day to day life
as well . One should make an effort
to look their best and keep
themselves well groomed. Create
your own style and wear what you
are comfortable in.

MakeupTalks9. Do you feel that you have achieved all of your goals as a successfulmakeup artist?I have come a long way but I sti l l feel there is a lot more to
achieve. My dream is to bring a revolution in the bridal makeup
and hair industry. Most people have a misconception when it
comes to bridal makeup - that only cakey and over the top
justifies bridal makeup. My idea is to keep it less. Brides should
know that looking their best is the idea of doing makeup, not
being overdone.
10. Who are some people that have inspired you throughout yourcareer?I have been a big fan of Kevyn Aucoin. Love reading his books
on makeup and like the way he thinks aboutt beauty and
makeup. Besides that I am inspired by everything around me,
be it colours, style, fashion, or even people.
11. Do you see yourself someday creating your own line of makeup? My dream is to open up 1 00 bridal makeup and hair studio
Salons all over the world and provide brides and grooms
everything related to makeup, hair and beauty under one roof.
Then I shal l create my own line of makeup.
12. What are some of your favorite products in your makeup kit?My favourite products are:
- Zoom lash mascara from MAC. I t works really well .
- A l ip gloss called Lust from MAC.
- Dior Extreme fit Foundation
- Tilt, Vanil la and Carbon eye shadows from MAC.
13. What's your favorite concealer of all time?Mac studio fix concealer- it provides a smooth, prolong
coverage and works for al l skin blemishes.
14. What products do you think should be a staple in every woman'spurse?Concealer- that exactly matches your skin tone, CompactPowder/Translucent powder, Moisturizer, Lip Gloss, Kajal, Mascara15. Do you believe that sometimes less is more?Makeup is always occasion related. Therefore, less is not
necessari ly always more. But there are times when minimum
makeup looks better than being overdone.
MakeupTalks16. What tips can you give toyoung women who want to startpreparing their skin in advancefor a special event like prom?
Have enough water-
Although the tip may sound
sl ightly boring and
uninspiring, drinking
enough water is one of the
easiest and most
beneficial natural beauty
tips a person can fol low.
In fact, I feel this is one
of the most wonderful skin
care treatments. Also, make
sure you do cleansing toning
and moisturizing on a daily
basis. Women with sensitive skin
should be very careful about the
cosmetic or makeup products they
use.
17. What do you recommend teens do tocover up problematic skin?I f you have pimples then use
conceler to cover them up. I f you
have sensitive skin make sure you
use hypoallergenic makeup and
cosmetic products.
18. What do you suggest 'IndianWedding Talks’ readers do to achievethe perfect every day, backtoschoollook?Keep it simple. Tie your hair in a
ponytai l or make a braid if you don’t
have time to blow-dry. Apply
mascara, some natural shade of
blush and some transparent or l ight
color l ip gloss, This keeps you look
pretty and fresh.

Health & BeautyTalksSteps to healthy Summer
Priyanka Bhatia
The onset of summer is popularly known as the 'Doctor's season', what with enormous number
of people fal l ing sick in summer. Sudden change in temperature is the major cause of
several diseases and infections and calls for proper attention. Summer also gives rise to
several infections and water-borne diseases.
"Throat and viral infections are very common in summers. I t happens
mainly due to a change in temperature levels. People
working in air-conditioned offices must not step out in the
heat suddenly. I t is safer to stand in the shade for a few
minutes before exposing the body to high temperature, summer
diseases, of course can get worse. Jaundice, Typhoid and
gastroenteritis are quite commonly in this weather.
The most common ailment found in summer is dehydration, leading
to body aches, headaches, energy loss and even high fever. "I think
summer is the time when you must consciously consume liquid
foods. Besides water, an adequate intake of nimbu pani, juices and
salads is very important. When the weather heats up in the summer,
it’s especial ly important to stay hydrated. Staying hydrated wil l give
you energy in the heat, and keep your skin looking radiant and
beautiful . Obviously water is the best source of hyd
ration, but there are lots of foods you can eat that wil l
help keep you hydrated in the summer months.
Here’s a l ist of some of my favourites to help get you
started!
• Cucumbers : Like most fruits and
vegetables, cucumbers are made up of
mostly water.
• Coconut Water : For centuries, peoplein Southeast Asian and Pacific Island
countries have been drinking the water
from young coconuts for hydration.
Health & BeautyTalks• Watermelon: Watermelon is one of
the most hydrating foods out
there. I t’s made up of mostly
water, but it also has essential
hydrating salts, calcium,
magnesium, potassium and
sodium.
• Green Smoothie : I t’s hydrating,
and it’s absolutely packed with
vitamins, minerals and fiber to
keep your body refreshed and
your skin glowing.
• Cabbage: Cabbage is an amazing
vegetable to eat anytime. I t’s
known to lower cholesterol, and its
packed with tons of vitamin C,
making it an amazing beauty food.
• Water with Lemon: I t may seem
like a no-brainer that water would
be one of the most hydrating food
and drinks, but I can’t stress
enough the importance of drinking
water.
• Berries: Also packed with water,
berries contain high levels of
antioxidants, which can help the
body natural ly detoxify itself.
• Carrots: Carrots may seem like a
dense vegetable, but they are
actual ly very hydrating. They are
almost 90 percent water. And they
have tons of beta-carotene, more
than any other vegetable.
• Pineapples: Pineapples are a
delicious summer fruit. On top of
the hydrating elements of
pineapple, it is packed with
bromelain.
• Red Bell Peppers: All bel l peppers
are hydrating sources of some of
the best nutrients for the body.
They contain vitamin C, thiamine,
vitamin B6, beta-carotene and
fol ic acid.
Simply fol low these precautions
and enjoy your summer holidays.
As summer is also the season to
relax de-stress and rel ish. I t's a
season for outing, attending
marriages and parties and hangs
with friends. In medicine it is
always says that "prevention isbetter than cure". So summer is the
time to take extra precautions to
protect your body from dangers of
sun and make your vacation
memorable.

1. Tell us a little bit about yourself?A designer and styl ist by profession, I ’m thoroughly associated
with the fashion and glamour industry. I run a fashion store in
Mumbai, and also design and style costumes for television ads
and fi lms. Besides this, I have also anchored and hosted a few
bollywood based shows digital ly and on television. But when
it comes to my first love, it only remains designing and
styl ing!
2. When did you first begin styling and what led you to this careerchoice? To be precise, i should say i started
styl ing ever since i was 6 years.
I always had a fetish for barbie
dolls: ). I would use my hair
ribbons to drape them and make
their dresses . So I guess ful l
credit goes to my childhood for
instigating me and making me a
designer/styl ist today. But on the
professional front, I began styl ing
as soon as i completed my
fashion course way back in 2004.
The first 3 years of my career, I
styled for choreographer Pony
Verma, for her fi lms & shows.
3. Fashion means to you?To me, Fashion means
PASSION! A fascination for style,
glamour,creativity & flamboyance!
In simple words. . . I eat,sleep and
breathe FASHION!!
Fashion & Trends
Talks4. What do you believe makes aquality article of clothing?According to me, its the fabric
that brings out the quality of
any clothing. I ts always
important that the silhouette is
complimented by the fabric
material it is made out of.
5. What are the basic guidelineswhen styling someone? The most important aspect is
the overal l personality. . . . . the
height, weight & body
language! We all have a
different body type & hence
must only wear those
silhouettes that would
compliment & enhance our
personality. We can carry ourselves
graceful ly only if we are comfortable
with what we are wearing.
6. Are there any basic rules we should alllive by if we don't want to make any seriousstyle mistakes?Like I said earl ier, we must first study
our body type and then decide the apt
style that works wonders to
our personality. Also should be very
careful with color & print combinations. For
e.g. if your trouser/skirt is in printed
checks, then make sure you pair it in a
contrast manner with a plain shirt/top
and vice versa. You can always refer to
the internet for your daily doze of fashion!
7. Who do you think people should turn to when inneed of style advices? The fashion forecast on the internet has alot
to advice about fashion & styl ing from season
to season. Styl ing of celebrities in fi lms
and other social events is also a great
source of advice. And those of you, sti l l
not convinced, can always turn to ME
for my doze of advice:)! ! !

8.Describe the general process you gothrough to design and realize a piece ofclothing. My general process begins with an
il lustration drawing of the design on
paper fol lowed by sourcing the
required fabric and embroidery
trims after which it goes into
stitching process. I always make it a
point to re-check the measurements
before stitching, so that the fit is
perfect! And this is not just it!
“Finishing” of the garment is the
next and the last process, where it
is ironed & packed or delivered. No
matter how easy and enjoyable a
task it might seem, but trust me its
quite a tedious one!
9. Some of your favorite clothingstores/websites?International ly, my all-time favorite
store is “Bebe”. Not only their
casual and party wear, but their
bridal wear too remains highly chic,
styl ish & classy! And in India it has
to be ‘’Remanika’’ for western wear
and “Pagli” for bridal wear.
10. Your favorite colors to work with andwhy?Pink, purple, blue and red have
been my hot favorites forever!
Wether bridaI wear or western
wear, i bel ieve the striking
appearance of these colors
automatical ly works wonders and
as an enhancer. The photo below is
a saree i designed for myself, and
you can see its in pink and blue
11. Your favorite patterns [prints] to workwith and why?I have a fetish for animal prints and
polka dots. Personally i love polkas
because i find them extremely
feminine. The white dress is one of
my favorites that i picked up 3 years
ago from Trueworths in South
Africa, and i sti l l dont feel l ike
disposing it away. But when it
comes to my clients, i prefer going
for animal prints as i feel it makes a
lady look chic, styl ish and elegant.
12. Where can readers find out moreabout you and your work?I have my styl ing videos on youtube
on my name and otherwise i also
keep updating my work on my
facebook profi le. Besides this, am
working on my website, which
should also be ready in a month.
Otherwise for any enquiries and
orders, feel free to contact me on

tips with our readers.
Fashion & Trends
Fashion & Trends TalksSSuummmmeerrWWeeddddiinngg The one thing that defines summer is the heat!
We Indians have a longstanding
tradition, the wedding date is decided
by the position of the stars that l ight
up the future. Now if it so happens
that the heavens above have decided
that you are destined to have a
summer wedding then you need to
brace yourself for what l ines ahead
because the heat is only going to
add to your bridal woes.
I understand that it’s the Big Indian
Wedding but while planning your
outfit keep a few important detai ls in
mind. First remember that even
though it’s your wedding it’s the
summer and despite al l the air
conditioning the heat is going to
catch up to up with you. So the
advisable thing to do is to try
to stick to fabrics that are
not going to make you
melt and sweat a lot
because the last thing
anyone wants is
wedding outfit with
sweat patches.
Fashion & Trends TalksSecond, while the l ight and comfortable fabrics are
great, at the end of the day it is your wedding
and no matter what you must look like a
mil l ion bucks! No heat should melt away the
fact that on this day you are the queen of the
world. So my suggestion there is to try and
stick to a l ight colour pallet, much like J J
Vallays summer line or Payal Singhal’s
Resort Bride Line. Taking inspiration from
both the looks you could fix a wedding
look that’s l ight, sheer and total ly
appropriate for your day!
Third and this is probably more
important than any other point, Bl ing.
No wedding is a wedding without the
exquisite display of al l the shiny
stones you have hoarded up into
your wardrobes. A crystal
embell ishment on the choli or
an embroidered golden zardozi
sari in white, now those are
looks that most certainly make
for the ideal summer bride.
When I say Bling you must
realise that more than
anything else I refer to the
uncut diamonds that can
string themselves
around your neck or
some large solitaries
that have been
skilful ly placed with
platinum and pearl
to make for the
ideal wedding
necklace.
Remember that
with the
summer
comes a lot of
sunl ight and the best use you can put
sunl ight to is to reflect off your fabulous
jewels.
Now with the outfit sorted let’s get
down to the makeup. In nearly three
decades that Karl Lagerfeld has been
creative director of Chanel he has stuck
by one rule: Less is More and when you
decide to go do your make up for your
big summer wedding this is one rule
that might be most useful to keep in
mind. Stick to the essentials and
make sure you don’t overdo
because the one thing that the heat
surely does is make makeup look
patchy and cakey. My
recommendation is mineral
makeup for a summer wedding. I t
blends into your skin making it look
l ike your almost not wearing any
make up, thus making you look
flawless.
Finally there is one thing that ismore important than anything
else, that you remain happyand you look your absolutebest on your wedding day. Sowhatever you do don’t everlet this small detail slip away.
Rushwa
