St. Mark the Evangelist Catholic Church 3 Sunday, July 5, 2020
Hello Everyone, It is hard to believe, but this Pastor’s Corner marks my one year anniversary in my assignment here at St. Mark! Moreover, even though it has been called the “Pastor’s Corner” this whole time, this is technically my very first Pastor’s Corner! You see, up to this point, I have been the “administrator” of St. Mark, as is always the case in a priest’s first year the first time he is becoming a pastor. But “Administrator’s Corner” just doesn’t have the same ring! Nonetheless, as of July 1st, the Archbishop has
officially named me “pastor” of St. Mark. For all intents and purposes, there is little difference between the two titles, but it was an exciting letter for me to receive nonetheless! It is difficult to sum up in one letter how this past year has been. It seems like a decade ago that I returned from Rome to the United States and moved into the rectory here at St. Mark. It has been an extremely full year! I adjusted to living back in the States just in time for the school year to start, and before I knew it Thanksgiving came around. We had a wonderful Christmas, and then our associate Fr. David returned home. Then, during all the excitement of a possible capital campaign because we found ourselves bursting at the seams, the whole world shut down due to a pandemic and I found myself celebrating Easter all on my own. And now, as we are (hopefully) coming out of this crisis, it’s the 4th of July, and a whole year has gone by just like that. What an incredible twelve months indeed! While I am not there with you right now (I find myself on a lake in northern Michigan), I just want to say this: Thank you for making my first year as a pastor (or “administrator if you’d like) the best of my priesthood so far! I could not be happier to be here at St. Mark. I know that probably sounds like it’s just something I “must” say as I begin this second year in my assignment, now officially as your pastor, but I absolutely mean it. There is nowhere I’d rather be, and that is because this is an awesome, welcoming, vibrant, diverse, and faith filled parish. Thank you to our incredible staff, and thank you, our incredible parishioners. Here is to MANY MORE years to come! God Bless, -Fr. Tim

This is the true joy of Life, the being used up for a purpose
recognized as a mighty one; being a force of nature instead
of a feverish, selfish little clod of ailments and grievances,
complaining that the world will not devote itself to making
you happy. I am of the opinion that my life belongs to the
community, and as long as I live, it is my privilege to do for it
whatever I can. I want to be thoroughly used up when I die,
for the harder I work, the more I live. Life is no “brief candle”
to me. It is sort of a splendid torch which I have got hold of
for a moment, and I want to make it burn as bright as
possible before handing it on to future generations.
Attributed to George Bernard Shaw
These are, indeed, challenging times for all of us who live in
the United States. COVID-19 continues to challenge the
health of our citizenry and there is no end in sight for ending
this pandemic. And our nation has been rocked by protests,
riots, and deaths as the very real issue of racism cries out for
answers. There is not much many of us Maturing Adults can
do in response to either challenge. There is ONE THING we
can do and MMA is asking you to be a PRAYER WARRIOR.
Pray for our country! Pray for an end to this pandemic! Pray
for improved racial relations in our country. AND PRAY
YOUR PRAYERS EVERY DAY!
Do you need handyman help in your home? Do you need
your grass cut because of a broken mower or some other
reason? MMA might be able to assist if there are some short
term needs you have. Contact Steve Helmich
at [email protected] or 317-903-9657 (cell/text) to
discuss your needs.
MMA is looking for Maturing Adults at St. Mark who would be
willing to write notes to parishioners who are ill, to
seminarians at St. Meinrad, to Maturing Adults living in
assisted living facilities, and others. Parishioner Ann Seaver
creates beautiful cards that can be used for this purpose.
Contact Steve Helmich (see contact information above) to
talk about getting involved in this card-writing effort.
A BURDEN of memory in these maturing years is to allow it
to meld us into the company of people, time, and places long
gone by.
A BLESSING of these years is to realize that our memories
of both the sad and the happy, the exciting and the secure,
the successes and failures of life, are meant to guide us
down these last roads with confidence - the confidence that
having navigated the demands of the past we may safely
walk into the future. Sr. Jean Chittester
MINISTRY FOR MATURING ADULTS
PARISH LIFE PARISH LIFE Material donations collected in the Narthex for the respective ministries such as St. Vincent DePaul, Birthline, Coin toss, etc. are SUSPENDED at this time given the current COVID-19 conditions and CDC guidelines. This is an effort to reduce contact to surfaces and materials. Additionally, all paper pamphlets, books, etc. have also been removed from the message stations until further notice. Please check with the parish office before leaving any material in the Narthex. This is an ever changing situation and will be updated accordingly as new guidance is given. Thank you for your adherence, patience and understanding! Church Cleaning: As we continue to adhere to the CDC guidelines of cleaning between Masses, we are in need of additional individuals to assist with the cleaning committee. Please contact Angi Swiezy at [email protected] or Carol Cassetty at [email protected] if you are interested in helping.
St. Mark extends condolences to the family and friends

SPRING CYO SPORTS
With the cancellation of the Spring CYO Sports,
we are attempting to determine who should be
getting refunds. Since most of the registrations
only consist of the child’s name and an email
address, it is difficult to determine who the refund
check should be made out to! If you paid for a
Spring Sport: Track, Kickball, or Soccer, please
contact the Parish Center and we will issue the
refund. I just need to know:
1. Which Sport
2. Who the check should be made out to
3. The address the check should go to
4. The Childs Name
5. The amount you paid.
Thanks, and be Safe,
