  • 1. In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

2. There are many ways in which our media product use, develop and challenge forms and conventions of real media products. From looking at existing short film posters we found they all seem to be quite simple and straight to the point. Looking at the Shelter poster you can see the image and text get the films general plot straight across and we wanted to add the similar conventions of this poster to our poster. We chose to add our directors and producers names to the bottom of our poster and this is a way in which we used conventions Our posters image however clearly challenges conventions. We chose to add a basic image that reflected school behaviour as there is more of us on the image unlike the Shelter poster our image had to be spread out and less zoomed into where however the Shelters image is basic with three characters in a mid shot therefore our product is challenging real media products. Another way our piece challenges real media products conventions is our main text is situated around and on the image where as a real media products text is based on the bottom leaving all attention to be on the main image. We chose to lay our release date on top of the image as the first thing they see is the main image we thought because of this they would also instantly draw their eyes to the release date and not forget when the film is to be released like a constant reminder. Film ReviewFilm Review Our film review challenges forms and conventions because we chose to use more images of raw footage. From film reviews we looked into they all seemed to use one main image and that was similar to the posters main image from this we chose to go against typical conventions and wanted to use more images to involve the audience and give them a taster of the shots taken from the film. We felt the audience may prefer this as they get an insider to the films potential plot. We also challenge real media product conventions due to the lack of information we chose to include unlike many film reviews we chose to keep it to basics and just give a general gist of the films plot. We initially wanted to keep our film a secret but with enough information to persuade potential readers to come watch. We put our review in chronological order just like the Spider- man 2 review but shortened it down. Also like many film reviews list cast members, net worth, release date etc. We chose to do the same, however we did ours in a complete different layout for example we used a report card as our film is based on school life and education. We thought this would again give an insight to our film plot and general contents. Existing film review Our film review 4. Short film- Educating Idiots A way in which our product challenges conventions is this piece doesnt have a voice over unlike Educating Yorkshire we chose to leave the voice over out at it was rather cheesy and you could already tell what was happening within the scenes. However we did stick to conventions when it came to interviews. Just like Educating Yorkshire we set up our camera and interviewed specific teachers on the students in question. For our piece we really challenged conventions of real media products, in Educating Idiots we certified the piece as a 15+ we did this so we could include embarrassing stories and profanities.
