Happy Holidays, Arizona!

By now you’ve enjoyed a taste of the holiday season and hopefully remembered to give thanks to those around you with special attention to your loved ones. Hold them close. I truly wish you and yours great health and joy and offer goodwill to each of you as you not only take part in your chosen holiday rituals, but continue to be curious about the world around you.

I continue to LOVE this new home and am invigorated by our community and the artists and staff that make Arizona Theatre Company an incubator of ideas. Speaking of ideas: David Bennett, Director of Man Of La Mancha, had a good one. Curious about the world, adventurous at heart, he asked a few important “what ifs” that led us to his bold, fresh, and utterly inventive staging of this seminal musical. Inspired by Spain and its traditions, he brings La Mancha to us in yet to be imagined ways. While still embracing the narrative and the essential essence of our heroic characters, David and his terrific creative team put the orchestrations in the hands of the cast and the geography of the story in the bodies of the on-stage artists. His team brings this to Arizona Theatre Company’s home (and home to Dale Wasserman’s wife, Martha, who lives in Arizona). Our role here is to support artists of the highest caliber. To allow our collabo-rators to soar in ways that allow for a new lens on existing work while always honoring author’s intent. In this way, we remain curious. And we celebrate each other even as we celebrate the great canon of classics. Thank you for supporting us in this effort. YOU are creating avenues for artists. YOU are the essential ingredient to our success. We here at ATC build every inch of what you see on our stages. These staff members live among you, buy bread from the same stores, and care deeply about the work you see tonight. Like the characters that fill La Mancha, they are vigourous, adventurous, bold and humble.

As Cervantes celebrates his quest for freedom and dares to “dream the impossible,” we celebrate and dream WITH you. What a fitting time of the year to be looking ahead, making new goals and reaching for that which may once have been unimaginable.

LETTER FROM MANAGING DIRECTOR BILLY RUSSO

Welcome to our third production of the 2017-2018 season, a soaring new look at the classic American musical, Man of La Mancha.

We are so grateful to the committed and passionate communities that make up Arizona Theatre Company’s audience (subscribers, donors, and new and repeat visitors alike). We appreciate how many of you serve as ambassadors for the work we do and how you help magnify our message of the importance of the theatre, and the arts in general, to the vibrant and thriving fabric of Arizona life.

To that extent, I am thrilled to announce a new arrangement that was made between the League of Resident Theatres (the venerated organization that represents professional regional theatres across the country, of which Arizona Theatre Company is the sole member representing our state), and United Scenic Artists, the union representing our enormously talented designers:

Audience members are now allowed to take photographs of the auditiorium and the stage before the show, after the show, and during intermission. Feel free to use them to post on your social media platforms! Please remember though, in no instance are photos allowed during the performance.

This is another way that you can help us spread the word about our productions and to share your love of the theatre with your friends and followers. We do ask that if you do this, you properly credit the artists whose work you are sharing in a form of: Scenic Design by William Bloodgood; Lighting Design by Mary Louise Geiger. “My man of La Mancha is not Don Quixote; he is Miguel de Cervantes.” - Dale Wasserman.

And so the playwright placed the artist at the center of his play. This Cervantes desperately needs his audience to ‘enter [his] imagination’ and see him as Don Quixote. He even invites them to become a part of the story – a dangerous proposition for individuals shut down by fear, isolation and cynicism. Can they find the courage to hope and dream again?

The primal power of humans joining together in drama and music is undeniable. Themes of indi-viduality, courage, nobility, sacrifice and grace resonate in Man of La Mancha. But for me, the true brilliance of La Mancha is the transformative power of storytelling. Beyond reason and logic, we all feel the necessity of character and narrative. It’s the essence of theatre.

An inspiration for our production is another great Spanish poet and playwright: Federico García Lorca. While working as a theatre director, Lorca developed an approach that he called ‘total theatre’: minimal scenic elements, props, costumes and staging; incorporating flamenco music and dance into the action. Lorca had a lifelong devotion to flamenco and Andalusian culture. He was executed by Franco’s forces in 1936.

Thank you for being here as a part of this story. Let’s come together in the spirit of Cervantes, Lorca, Wasserman, Leigh, and Darion. May we all find the courage to become our own man, woman, or person of La Mancha.

Patrick Connaghan (Quito / Padre) has never been to Ari-zona and is grateful for the opportunity to work on such a fun show. He recently made his Broadway debut in Band-stand, where he was a standby for both brass players in the

Donny Nova Band as well as a swing in the ensemble. Before that, he debuted Icon Off-Broad-way through the NYMF. Regional houses include Florida Studio Theatre, Farmers Alley Theatre, and Mason Street Warehouse. BFA @ WMU. Repre-sented by TKO. www.patrickconnaghan.com

Samuel Flores Macias (Paco, a Percussionist) is from Arcos de la Frontera, Cadiz in Anda-lucia, Spain. Born into a leg-endary flamenco family, Samuel began playing percus-sion and touring as a small child with his family, all danc-

ers and musicians, to huge acclaim throughout Spain. In 1999, Flores was invited to perform in the Auditorio Manuel de Falla at the Alhambra in Granada, Spain. The next year, he toured to Caracas, Venezuela with the Compania Manuel Malena where he performed at the Teatro Teresa Careño and Tablao Melial for four months. In 2003, he moved to Madrid and worked with prominent Tablaos and toured the globe. Other credits include Teatro Falla de Cadiz with Cantaor Antonio Reyes, with Roman Vicenti in the Hom-enaje to Paco Cepero, an Andalucian tour with dancers Marco and Titi Flores, and years as the percussionist for Ballet Nacional de España (The National Ballet of Spain).

Joaquin Gallegos (Tenorio, a Guitarist) comes from a fam-ily of artists and musicians. He began his music studies at age seven. He spent several years living, studying, and perform-ing in Andalusia, with legend-ary Spanish artists in the

neighborhood of Sacromonte in Granada and in Sevilla, learning the art of accompanying the flamenco cante and baile. He won first prize at the 2002 EXPO Flamenco Competition at the Festival Flamenco Internacional de Albuquerque and was a finalist at the 2007 II Concurso Inter-nacional Nino Ricardo de Murcia. His first album, La Jornada, was released in 2005 and his second album, Nuevos Comienzos, was released in 2015. His fluid technical expression, deep rhythmic sensibility, and prolific composing abilities have made Joaquin a sought after guitarist for solo performances and accompaniments for a variety of artists and as a composer for films.

Alex Gossard (Captain of the Inquisition) is making his debut at the Arizona Theatre Company. He is receiving his BFA in Musical Theatre from the University of Arizona, where he will graduate in 2018. He has appeared as

Gomez in The Addams Family at the Arizona Repertory Theatre as well as in 9 to 5 at Village Theatre in Seattle.

Philip Hernandez (Don Quixote / Miguel de Cervantes) is the only man in Broadway history to play both Jean Valjean and Inspector Javert in Les Miséra-bles. He debuted on Broadway in the Tony Award-winning Kander and Ebb musical Kiss

of the Spider Woman, directed by Harold Prince, where he originated the role of Esteban. He also created the role of Reverend Gonzalez in the original Broadway cast of Paul Simon’s The Cape-man. He has performed leading roles in national and international tours and in great plays at prestigious regional theatres. In addition, he has been a guest soloist with symphony orchestras throughout the U.S. and has recorded a very cool Latin-Jazz album with a big band. TV credits include Bull, Blue Bloods, The Blacklist, The Path, Gotham, Nurse Jackie, The Mysteries of Laura, Elementary, Hostages, Damages, Person of Interest, Law and Order, Made in Jersey and Ugly Betty among others. In addition to acting, he is a private audition and performance coach in NYC and teaches master classes and workshops across North America. He is most proud of his beautiful twenty-year-old daughter, Mariah, three-year-old daughter, Tallulah, and his wonderful wife, Heidi. John Patrick Lowrie (Governor / Innkeeper) has been nomi-nated for Gregory Awards for his work in My Fair Lady (Doolittle) at Village Theatre, directed by Brian Yorkey, and in Sugar Daddies (Ashley) at ACT, directed by Sir Alan

Ayckbourn. Not only has he worked at theaters all over the country and in Europe, he won Best Actor and Best Director for an Audio Drama at the Moondance International Film Festival in 2014 for Sherlock Holmes in Hound of the Basker-villes, co-won Best Script in an Audio Drama in 2015 (The Beast of Hyndford), voiced characters in over twenty-five video games including the Sniper in Team Fortress 2, and his novel, Dancing With Eternity, won the Foreword Firsts Award for Best Debut Fiction in 2011. Before he became an actor he was a jazz fusion guitarist and composer

and led the critically acclaimed acoustic guitar duo The Kiethe / Lowrie Duet for nine years. He has been married to Ellen McLain, the voice of the murderous computer GLaDOS in the video games Portal and Portal 2, for over thirty years.

Miguel Mejia (Anselmo) has been playing guitar since the age of thirteen and singing opera since 1994. He then continued his musical studies at Wichita State University and sang for four seasons as a member of the Seattle Sym-

phony Chorale. During this time, he began to study flamenco and decided to focus on guitar and cante (singing). He formed Oleaje Flamenco in 2009 with his wife, Amelia Moore, and has performed in several productions of Lyric Opera

Northwest, including Amahl and the Night Visitors, Madame Butterfly, and Rigoletto. He currently lives, performs, and teaches full time in Seattle, WA and travels regularly to Spain to continue his flamenco studies.

Amelia Moore (Fermina, a Dancer) began her profes-sional dance training at the age of fifteen and began per-forming as a soloist at the age of seventeen. As a member of the world music group, Chil-dren of the Revolution, she

toured for twelve years as a belly dance soloist, percussionist, and vocalist, performing in venues from the Paramount Theatre and Meany Hall in Seattle, to audiences of thousands in Puli, Taiwan. After moving to Istanbul to study Turkish Romani dancing, she fell in love with flamenco, co-founded Oleaje Flamenco in 2009. She now performs and teaches full time in Seattle, and travels regularly to Spain to study with some of the world’s foremost flamenco artists.

Max Anton Protzen (Guard) is pleased to be making his ATC debut. He is a student at the University of Arizona in the BFA acting program. His previous credits include the Ensemble in Evita (Arizona Repertory Theatre); Ensemble

in Africa (In Strange Company, New York Pre-miere); Dick in The Bat (Theatre Rhinoceros); Kerchak in Tarzan (Play Conservatory).

Jose Luis “El Nino” Uz (Jose, a Dancer) Jose Luis Uz, now known by the stage name “El Niño Uz,” was born in Cuba. He began his dance develop-ment while in elementary school and, at fifteen, entered the National Art School

(ENA). He followed his love of flamenco to the United States and participated in various festivals and with various companies, such as as the prin-cipal flamenco dancer with Havana Night in Las Vegas. He also starred with Flamenco La Rosa, performed at the International Festival of Cante Flamenco Miami on multiple occasions, and danced in the Ernesto Lecuona Festival as a soloist. Currently, he is dancing around Miami with the Madrid Tapas y Vinos and is developing a project called Miami Flamenco Movement, which aims to feed the city with this ancient art and intangible cultural heritage. Always hoping to learn more, he has taken courses with many acclaimed fla-menco artists, including Israel Galban, Mario Maya, Daniel Navarros, and, most importantly, Juan Manuel Fernandez Montoya.

Dale Wasserman (Book) wrote for theater, tele-vision and film for more than 50 years and is best known for the musical Man of La Mancha, a multiple Tony Award winner. He also wrote the stage play One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, based on Ken Kesey’s novel, which has won sev-eral Tony Awards. Both shows continue to be produced nationally and internationally, with an estimated 300 productions per year. In Janu-ary 1979, Dale met Martha Nelly Garza, who became his wife, loyal partner and loving com-panion. More than once, Dale commented that Martha Nelly was the best thing that ever hap-pened to him (aside from his work on Man of La Mancha) and that it was their 30-year part-nership that had been the greatest contribution to extending his life and his talents to age 94. Together, they worked on numerous musicals and several new plays, including the autobio-graphical Burning In The Night. On December 21, 2008, Dale Wasserman, with his loving wife at his side, passed away peacefully of natural causes at his home in Paradise Valley. Martha N. Wasserman is now the sole Owner / Licensor of Dale’s intellectual properties and spends her life promoting his works all over the world.

Mitch Leigh (Music) composed Man of La Mancha, which originally opened on Broadway in 1965 and went on to win five Tony Awards including Best Musical. Man of La Mancha ran for 2,328 performances on Broadway, making it one of the greatest musicals of all time, spawning nu-merous national and international productions. His other Broadway scores include Cry For Us All, Sarava, Chu Chem, and Ain’t Broadway Grand. He is the recipient of numerous awards including the NY Drama Critics Circle Award

and the Contemporary Classics Awards from the Songwriters’ Hall of Fame for “The Impos-sible Dream,” and he is the first composer to receive the Yale Arts Award for Outstanding Achievement in Musical Composition. He has been honored as the only living composer whose work was included in the Metropolitan Opera’s Centennial Celebration. Mr. Leigh produced and directed Yul Brynner’s farewell tour of The King And I. In 2001 the Music School at Yale University was named Leigh Hall.

Joe Darion (Lyrics) has worked in every field in which words are put to music, from popular songs to works for the concert stage. His op-era based on Don Marquis’ immortal charac-ters Archy and Mehitabel, was turned into the Broadway musical Shinbone Alley, for which Mr. Darion supplied book and lyrics. Popular songs for which he has supplied the lyrics include

“Ricochet,” “Changing Partners,” and “Midnight Rain,” selling in the tens of millions. One of the most popular has been “The Impossible Dream” from Man of La Mancha, which won Darion the Tony Award for Best Lyrics. He also sup-plied the lyrics for the Broadway musical Illya Darling, adapted from the film Never on Sunday. In addition to the Tony Award, he has the Outer Critics Circle Award, the Gabriel Award, the Ohio State Award, and the International Broad-casting Award.

Kathryn Van Meter (Choreographer) is a Seattle based director, choreographer and actress. She is honored to return to ATC where she choreo-graphed the award-winning Fiddler on the Roof, Xanadu, and Next to Normal. Recent credits include directing Into the Woods (Village The-atre) and choreographing the world premiere of Mario and the Comet (Seattle Children’s Theatre). Ms. Van Meter is a three-time Gregory Award Nominee and winner for her work on Mary Poppins. Her choreography recently debuted on television with the Netflix Original Series 13 Reasons Why, and at the Seattle Opera with The Magic Flute. In 2016, Ms. Van Meter worked with the US Deptartment of Labor to develop the national definition for the occupation of

“Choreographer.” Next up, Kathryn will be join-ing Spectrum Dance Theatre playing Margaret Mead in their touring production of A Rap on Race. She is a proud member of SDC and AEA.

Tim Symons (Music Supervisor) is delighted to re-turn to Arizona Theatre Company after rocking the keytar onstage in Xanadu (2014). Based in Seattle, Symons is the resident music director at Village Theatre, where he has served as music director / music supervisor on 50+ mainstage productions over 15 seasons, including Into the Woods, Billy Elliot, The Who’s Tommy, Jesus Christ Superstar, and Show Boat. Other credits: Romy &

Michele’s High School Reunion: The Musical (5th Avenue), Assassins (ACT / 5th Avenue), and work at all of the major Seattle houses. Symons com-poses and performs with Seattle jazz trio Fawcett, Symons & Fogg.

Greg Fulton (Associate Music Director, Arranger) is honored to work for Arizona Theatre Company. William Bloodgood (Scenic Designer) returns to Arizona Theatre Company for his fifth produc-tion, having last designed the scenery for Bad Dates in 2005. Well known in American re-gional theatres, he has worked for many, includ-ing Arena Stage in Washington, DC, Berkeley Repertory Theatre, the Alley Theatre, Chicago Shakespeare Theater, Denver Center Theatre Company, the Guthrie Theater, Indiana Reper-tory Theatre, Intiman Theatre, the Old Globe Theatre, Portland Center Stage, Seattle Rep-ertory Theatre, and the Oregon Shakespeare Festival where he has designed the scenery for 150 productions. In 2011, he was honored to design the United States national exhibit for the Prague Quadrennial of Performance and Space Design. He is the recipient of many awards for his designs, including the Oregon Governor’s Award for the Arts in 2002. Currently, he is a professor of scene design at the University of Texas at Austin.

Abe Jacob (Sound Designer) returns to ATC where he was Sound Designer for Fiddler on the Roof, Snapshots, Xanadu, Next to Normal, Backwards in High Heels, [title of show], Hair, The Pajama Game, The Pirates of Penzance, The Fantasticks, The Gershwins’ Fascinating Rhythm and Five Guys Named Moe, among others. His designs include the original Broadway productions of Hair, Jesus Christ Superstar, Pippin, Chicago, A Chorus Line, The Act, Evita, Cats, Dancin’, Big Deal, Black and Blue, and RAIN: A Tribute to the Beatles. A native of Tucson, his initial contribution to the performing arts was the creation of the concert sound for such legendary artists as Jimi Hendrix, The Mamas and the Papas, Peter, Paul and Mary, and the historic rock celebration, The Monterey Pop Festival. He is the recipient of the 2016 LDI Award for Lifetime Achievement in Theater Sound Design. Micha Espinosa (Voice / Dialects) is an Arizona-based artist, activist, teacher, and vocal coach. She has performed and taught voice, speech, and acting globally since 1992. Brent Gibbs (Fight Choreographer) is very happy to return to ATC where he has served as Fight Choreographer for multiple productions over the years including Romeo and Juliet, Disgraced, and Fences, to name a few. Brent heads the BFA Acting Program at the University of Arizona, where he teaches acting and stage combat. He is a certified teacher and fight director with the Society of American Fight Directors and he has gained recognition as an advanced actor / com-batant by The Society of British Fight Directors and Fight Directors Canada. He has taught stage combat workshops around the country and at the International Theatre School Festival in Amsterdam and the Royal Academy of Dra-matic Art in London. In Tucson, he also serves as Artistic Director for The Arizona Repertory Theatre, where he will direct The Merchant of Venice this spring.

Glenn Bruner (Assistant Stage Manager) is in his 21st season at ATC where he has stage managed over 60 productions, including Chapter Two, La Esquinita USA, An Act of God, Of Mice and Men, Romeo and Juliet, Other Desert Cities, The Mountaintop, Clybourne Park, The Sunshine Boys, Next to Normal, The Great Gatsby, Hair, and the world premieres of Rick Cleveland’s Five Presi-dents, Jeffrey Hatcher’s Holmes and Watson, Sher-lock Holmes and the Adventure of the Suicide Club and Ten Chimneys, and Steven Dietz’s Sherlock Holmes: The Final Adventure, Rocket Man, In-venting van Gogh, and Over the Moon. Mr. Brun-er has worked at Kansas City Repertory Theatre, Alley Theatre, Dallas Theater Center, Pasadena Playhouse, Centerstage, Studio Arena Theatre, and Maine’s Portland Stage Company. He was the Assistant Stage Manager for the world pre-miere of On the Waterfront at The Cleveland Play House and stage managed the Off-Broadway premiere of Alan Ayckbourn’s Season’s Greetings. He has been the voice for many radio and televi-sion commercials, and worked on-air for Texas Public Radio in his hometown of San Antonio.

For the past nineteen summers Mr. Bruner has been a member of the entertainment produc-tion staff for Major League Baseball’s All Star FanFest. He was the 2012 recipient of the Lucy Jordan Recognition Award, presented annually by the Western Region of Actors’ Equity Asso-ciation. Mr. Bruner has been a member of AEA since 1981.

Timothy Toothman (Assistant Stage Manager) is the Artistic Associate at ATC and has also stage man-aged 20 ATC productions since the 2002 / 03 season, most recently King Charles III, Fences and Wait Until Dark. He has also stage managed ATC co-productions at Geva Theatre Center, Kansas City Repertory Theatre and San Jose Repertory Theatre. Mr. Toothman spent five seasons as the Production Stage Manager for the Geva Theatre Center in Rochester, NY and was then Company Manager for five years for Sunshine Too, a national touring ensemble of deaf and hearing actors. He has also managed producing and presenting theatres in Indiana and Maryland. Prior to moving to Arizona, Mr. Toothman spent eleven years as a program and grants director for the Maryland State Arts Council and the Connecticut Commission on the Arts. Mr. Toothman stage managed the National Heritage Awards Program for the National Endowment for the Arts for ten years and was the Production Stage Manager for six seasons at the Vineyard Playhouse on Martha’s Vineyard.

David Ivers (Artistic Director) began his tenure as Artistic Director on July 1, 2017, and is honored to be part of this vibrant and inspiring community. In partnership with the inimitable and insightful Managing Director Billy Russo, he is hard at work creating community-based ini-tiatives, advanced-planning procedures, and staff-focused partnerships aimed at fostering institutional stability. Other immediate goals include improving our patron / donor relations and executing the finest slate of programming in our buildings as we honor our loyal audiences and seek

to engage with new ones. He arrives in Arizona after seven seasons as Artistic Director of Tony Award-Winning Utah Shakespeare Festival, having acted in or directed over fifty-five productions over twenty seasons. As Artistic Director, he helped usher in a forty million dollar expansion of facilities including two new theatres, a new rehearsal hall, costume shop, and administrative offices. His tenure is marked by a significant re-brand of the organization and several key initia-tives including the launch of WORDS (cubed) new play program, which recently featured the World Premiere of Neil LaBute’s How to Fight Loneliness.

Earlier in his career, Mr. Ivers was the Associate Artistic Director of Portland Repertory Theatre while continuing to collaborate with Portland Center Stage, the Oregon, Alabama and Idaho Shakespeare Festivals, and others. He also spent ten years as a resident artist involved with over forty productions at the acclaimed Denver Center Theatre Company. He has acting credits in Seattle, Portland, Utah, Denver, Chicago, Massachusetts, Alabama, California, including: Salieri in Amadeus, a nightly “audience choice” rotation of Oscar and Felix in The Odd Couple, Scapin in Scapin, Truffaldino in A Servant of Two Masters, Richard in Richard II, Tony Wendice in Dial M for Murder, Benedick in Much Ado About Nothing, Jake in Stones in His Pockets, Gary in Noises Off, Jonathan in A Prayer for Owen Meany, and has been involved with over one hundred other productions at LORT A, B+, and B institutions.

In the last several seasons, his directing work has been seen with The Utah Shakespeare Festival, The Guthrie Theatre (where where he directed Blithe Spirit this past November), Berkeley Repertory Theatre (Hand to God, One Man Two Guvnors), The Oregon Shakespeare Festival (The Coconuts, Taming of the Shrew), South Coast Repertory Theatre, Pioneer Theatre Company, and more. In addition, Ivers has taught at several colleges and universities and gave his first TEDx talk in 2015. He is thrilled at the opportunity to join Arizona Theatre Company and would like to extend his gratitude to the board and staff. Billy Russo (Managing Director) has served as Acting Managing Director of Arizona Theatre Company since 2015 and permanently took on the position beginning on July 1, 2017.

Previously, he was the Managing Director of American Repertory Theatre at Harvard University, where during his tenure they produced All The Way, starring Brian Cranston, and Finding Neverland. He served as the Managing Director of New York Theatre Workshop, a major Off-Broadway

Theatre company in New York, where he lead a financial turnaround of the organization, retiring an organizational deficit and rebuilding cash reserves. During his time there, he produced the original productions of the musical Once and the play Peter and the Starcatcher, both of which transferred to Broadway in the 2012 season, garnering 13 of the 26 competitive Tony Awards handed out that year. He also served as General Manager of Playwrights Horizons in New York, where he helped oversee the construction of a new six-story facility in the heart of Times Square. Notable productions during that period were the world premieres of I Am My Own Wife (Tony Award for Best Play and Pulitzer Prize for Drama), and the musical Grey Gardens. He was also the Associate General Manager at Manhattan Theatre Club.

While in London, Billy was the Associate Producer with David Pugh, Ltd; there, he produced, among others, the English Language Premiere of Yasmina Reza’s Art in the West End, starring Albert Finney, Tom Courtenay, and Ken Stott.

Billy was an adjunct assistant professor for Columbia University’s Theatre Producing and Management MFA Program, where he taught Advanced Theatre Budgeting. He received a BFA from New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts.

Under new leadership – and now celebrating its 51st-season – Arizona Theatre Company boasts the largest subscriber base of any per-forming arts organization in Arizona, with more than 130,000 people each year attending performances at the historic Temple of Music and Art in Tucson, and the elegant Herberger Theater Center in downtown Phoenix. Each season of carefully selected productions reflects the rich variety of world drama – from classic to contemporary plays, from musicals to new works – as audiences enjoy a rich emotional experience that can only be captured through live theatre. Touching lives through the power of theatre, ATC is the preeminent professional theatre in the state of Arizona. Under the direction of Artistic Director David Ivers in partnership with Managing Director Billy Russo, ATC operates in two cities – unlike any other League of Resident Theaters (LORT) company in the country.

ATC shares the passion of the theatre through a wide array of outreach programs, educa-

tional opportunities, access initiatives, and community events. Through the schools and summer programs, ATC focuses on teaching Arizona’s youth about literacy, cultural devel-opment, performing arts, specialty techniques used onstage, and opens their minds to the creative power of dramatic literature. With approximately 450 Learning & Education activities annually, ATC reaches far beyond the metropolitan areas of Tucson and Phoenix, enriching the theatre learning experience for current and future audiences.

Mr. Ivers and Mr. Russo continue to work on strategic planning, creative thinking, and adventurous programming all aimed at serving the current mission: “To inspire, engage and entertain – one moment, one production and one audience at a time.”

THE TEMPLE OF MUSIC AND ARTThe Temple of Music and Art is a beautifully refurbished 1927 theatre, built in the Spanish Colonial style that flavors so much of our city. ATC has identified the following services and policies to ensure your comfort and enhance your experience at the theatre.

THEATRE POLICIESLatecomers will be seated only at an appropriate and predetermined break in action. In order not to disturb patrons who are already enjoying the performance, latecomers may be seated in alternate locations until intermission. As a courtesy to our patrons and the actors, the use of cameras and recording devices is not permitted within the theatre. Please restrict cellular phone use to the courtyard only. Children under five are not permitted in the theatre during performances.

Emergency calls may also be made to the House Manager’s direct line: 520-884-4868.

Smoking is not permitted anywhere within the building. Designated smoking areas are located in the front of the theatre only. In the event of smoking onstage, a sign will be posted in the lobby.

ACCESSIBILITY SERVICESThe theatre is equipped with an in-house infrared transmission system for use by patrons with partial hearing loss or limited range of hearing. Complimentary assisted listening headsets are available prior to every performance at the Box Office. Please be prepared to leave a driver’s license or other form of identification while using your headset. Every production is available in American Sign Language. For information on the dates of our ASL performances, please contact the Box Office. An in-house FM broadcast system is used to provide a running audio description of the movement and activities onstage for patrons with limited vision. Pre-show tactile tours of the backstage area and a pre-show narration about our building, the performers, and interpretive information about the play itself are available upon request. Contact the Box Office to make your reservation for the audio described performances. Coordinated with the action onstage, those in open-captioned seating will be able to read the play’s dialogue displayed in large green letters on an LED screen. For open-captioned performance dates, contact the Box Office. Large print and Braille playbills are available for all performances in the House Manager’s office in the lobby of the theatre. Accessible seating is available via the Box Office for all performances. If you would like seating assistance at the theatre, please contact the House Manager at 520-884-4868.
