IN THE NAME OF ALLAH, THE MOST GRACIOUS, THE MOST MERCIFUL
As Salamu Alaikum Warahmatullahi Wabarakatuhu
Alhamdulillah, we have come to the end of a very productive semester. Some of the
activities held were the Zaky show, Harmony day, Anzac Day, Quran Competition,
Parent/Teacher interviews, NAPLAN, Ramadan, Ali Gator Book display, Iftar
Dinner, Eid ul Fitr celebration, Excursions, Primary Sports day and Swimming. All
these events have been very successful, and we thank all teachers and staff, students
and parents for their participation and support. I encourage parents to continue
with their involvement in college activities so that we can work in partnership with
each other for the benefit all students, Insha’Allah.
The semester results will be analysed and teachers will identify and plan for the
needs of all students in the third term. If you have any concerns regarding your
child’s progress this semester, do not hesitate to ring the college and make an
appointment to discuss this further.
Student portfolios for Prep to year 6 will be sent home on 16 July, in the first week
of term 3. Teachers place work samples of students in these portfolios. Parents you
have an opportunity to look at the work samples of your child/ren in these portfolios.
Kindly return the portfolios to the class teachers on Friday, 19 July for the next
semester.
All students return on 16 July for the beginning of term three. Please ensure that
your child is wearing the correct uniform in term three and four.
An important message to all parents:
• Parents must report to the Front office if for any reason you must take your
child from school before school is dismissed at 3.05pm. Complete the release
form and wait for your child.
• Your child will be called to the Front office and you will receive your
children at the front office.
• Please do not go to the class to get your child.
Please visit the College website for the Calendar of events for the next semester.
Dear parents I am looking forward to your continuing support. Have a pleasant

From the Campus Coordinator
Assalamu álaikum Wabaratullahi Wabarakatuhu,
Dear Parents /Caregivers,
What a wonderful term we have had. Term 2 was a very busy term and it is hard to believe it is nearly over.
During term 2 we celebrated Eid and held a wonderful Iftar at
the school. Mr and Mrs Celahmetovic did an amazing job cooking
our main meal for the night. Thank you to the wonderful staff at
AIIC who all worked so hard on that day to ensure all our
parents enjoyed an amazing night. Thank you to all the parents
and friends of AIIC who brought along lovely desserts to share.
It was wonderful for the school community to be able to enjoy
this night together.
The grade 5 and 6 students were involved in two sporting
programs this term. The Nerang Bowling Club welcomed our students to their club. The students attended
weekly lessons and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. We have some amazing bowlers in our school! The Gold
Coast Suns also offered some weekly training sessions to our students in the skills of football. We would like to
thank both organisations for providing a valuable learning experience for our grade 5 and 6 students.
Naplan, parent teacher interviews, the Annual Quran competition, 4-6 sports day, prep and grade 1 library
excursion, grade 4 excursion to Thunderbird park and the Schools Performance tour are some of the wonderful
events we participated in this term.
Just a few reminders as the term comes to an end.
- Please ensure your child has the correct school uniform for term 3. Please note that black runners are to
be worn only with the school sports uniform. Black leather shoes should be worn with the formal school
uniform. Please also ensure items of clothing are labelled, especially school hats. Secondary hats are
available at the office. Please be aware that all students must wear a hat for outdoor activities and
during morning tea and lunch.
- School diaries: please ensure your child has their diary in their bag every day. The diaries are an
effective communication tool between parents and the teacher.
- Mobile phones: Students are not allowed to have mobile phones at school.
- Jewellery: Students are not allowed to wear rings, bracelet or necklaces. Watches are allowed.
- Make up and nail polish is not allowed to be worn at school.
Term 3 starts on Tuesday 16th July 2019. Have a safe and relaxing holiday. We are looking forward to a
productive term 3!
Kind regards,
Jane Pritchard

From the desk of Mrs Bay, Year 5
Wow! What a term we have had. The year 5s
have been extremely busy. At the beginning of
the term, our class had been busy preparing for
NAPLAN. The students worked tirelessly during
NAPLAN and have applied their best efforts
over the three days.
Masha Allah!
In English, we have been reading and writing news
and feature articles. The class also created Dog
Man comics to enter a competition with Scholastic
books.
Science and Art was all about light and shadow.
Students experimented using a camera and
torch lights. Plenty of hands on activities
engaged our students learning experiences. We
explored how light travels and the reflections
and refractions of light. They also experimented
with natural and artificial light to create a burst
of photographs.
In Design technologies students made bags.
Students learnt to draw and measure accurately
their bags using paper patterns first. Through
the design production process, students
researched, designed, created paper prototypes
and hand sewn the bags using recyclable
materials and plastic. It’s been an unforgettable
STEAM experience.
Economics and Business studies in Year 5 had
focused on developing an understanding of why
decisions need to be made when allocating
resources for consumer needs and wants, and the
various factors that may influence them when
making choices. Students researched about what
would be the best products to sell at our school fete
on 27th July. They concluded that a hot chocolate
and coffee stall would gain the highest profits.
The Year 5s have also been fortunate to go to the
Lawn Bowls club in Nerang. Everyone felt they
have improved tremendously since the first week.
Lawn bowling has helped our students with
focusing, problem solving, resilience and
persistence.
What a rewarding and successful term!

From High School term 2– June 2019
NAPLAN
Our Year 7 and 9 sat for their national literacy and numeracy tests recently. These tests help our teachers to
cater for individual strengths and weaknesses. They are also good practise for external examinations in Senior
as they help build resilience in our students.
Interestingly, this will be the final year of NAPLAN in its current format. NAPLAN Online will be utilized in all
schools from 2020. A significant feature of the new system will be tailored test design. Tailored testing
automatically adapts to a student’s performance and allows each student to demonstrate their knowledge with
questions that match their achievement level. This is different to tests students have taken before – where
everyone sees the same questions in the same order. This means that students should not feel out of their depth
or bored by the questions – it will be the right challenge. In all cases, students are encouraged to do their best
while, in the background, their pathway adjusts to maximize their opportunity to be engaged and challenged.
STEM
• Have you ever played volleyball, a game where you try to hit a ball back and forth over a net without
letting it touch the ground?
• Can you imagine building a machine—actually, two machines, one on each side of the net—to do that
instead?
This term, high school students are doing just that on an engineering design project – a volleyball launching
paper machine and they must build based on a limited material provided.
Students are working on their volleyball paper launcher machine
Students are testing their machines by playing against another team
