Who are they?

"Those who believed (in the Oneness of Allah - Islamic Monotheism), and used to fear Allah much (by abstaining from evil deeds and sins and by doing righteous deeds)." They perfected their faith in Allah. They proved their faith with Taqwa. Taqwa is to perform what Allah commanded you with, and abstain from what Allah prohibited you from. This is the first and most important result of belief. Every believer who has Taqwa of Allah is considered a Wali of Allah.

What is the impact of being a Wali of Allah?

The Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص said:

Allah the Exalted has said: 'I will declare war against him who shows hostility to a pious worshipper of Mine. And the most beloved thing with which My slave comes nearer to Me is what I have enjoined upon him; and My slave keeps on coming closer to Me through performing Nawafil (prayer or doing extra deeds besides what is obligatory) till I love him. When I love him I become his hearing with which he hears, his seeing with which he sees, his hand with which he strikes, and his leg with which he walks; and if he asks (something) from Me, I give him, and if he asks My Protection (refuge), I protect him". [Bukhari]

This means that Allah will protect the hearing of that person such that he does not hear except that which Allah loves and is pleased with. He will protect the seeing of the person such that he does not see except that which Allah loves and is pleased with. Allah will help the person hear and see good. The hearing and eyesight are two passageways to the heart:- When the person hears and sees good, it will affect the faith in his heart. If this person hears the Qur'an from himself or another person who recites, the words of the Qur'an will have an effect on his heart, and it will change him. Unlike many who hear and read the Qur'an, yet there is a blockage from it reaching their hearts. The Wali of Allah sees everything as signs from Allah. If his eyes fall onto anything, if he hears anything, He knows it is a message from Allah to him. He sees Allah behind everything. He sees the Wisdom of Allah behind the situation he is going through. He sees Allahs Knowledge, Allahs Ability, Allahs Strength. E.g. The Wali of Allah sees that everything in this life has a beginning and an end. Everything goes through the same cycle. The sun, the moon, plants, animals, birds are all born weak, then attain full strength, then become weak and die. All people see this, but they do not explain it the way the Wali of Allah does. The Wali of Allah understands this as a message from Allah. Allah is telling him that just as these creation come to an end, this world will come to an end, and you will come to an end. Do not be attached to this world, you will one day leave it. So do good as much as you can in this life and look forward for the eternal world in the hereafter. Whenever you see yourself confused, with discomfort in your heart, and everything becoming difficult, you need to increase your faith in Allah. When you increase your faith, Allah will take you as a Wali, and He will guide you to what He is pleased with. In [35:19-21]:

"Not alike are the blind (disbelievers in Islamic Monotheism) and the seeing (believers in Islamic Monotheism)."

Page 4: Belief in Allah: The Most Beloved Deed to Allah Part 3 28 ... 25-11-1437H Belief in Allah: The Most Beloved Deed to Allah

"Nor are (alike) the darkness (disbelief) and the light (Belief in Islamic Monotheism)."

"Nor are (alike) the shade and the sun's heat." If you become one of the Awliyaa of Allah, Allah will bring you out of the darkness of ignorance into the light of knowledge, the darkness of sins to the light of obedience, from the darkness of wrong thoughts to the light of correct thoughts. In [2:257]:

"Allah is the Wali (Protector or Guardian) of those who believe. He brings them out from darkness into light. But as for those who disbelieve, their Auliya (supporters and helpers) are Taghut [false deities and false leaders, etc.], they bring them out from light into darkness. Those are the dwellers of the Fire, and they will abide therein forever." Are the people equal in their Wilayah to Allah? No. They differ according to their level and strength of faith which results in Taqwa. The stronger your faith, the more Allah will be with you. The strong believer hears and acts upon the truth more than the weak believer. People may argue with him. They may not see something as a big deal, and ge may see it as something grievous in Allahs sight. They will say he is being

extreme. But it is because he sees the Hellfire which they do not see, and Allahs punishment which they do not see. Allah will help the strong believer act upon the truth more than the rest of the people. The stronger your faith is, the stronger the light with which you see everything will be. There are people who live in darkness and do not perceive it. They live in the darkness of disbelief, wrong thoughts, and they think that they are right and other people are wrong. Like those who see the covered woman as oppressed or backwards. As soon as Allah guides these people and they become Muslim, they realize that they were thinking wrong before. As soon as you believe in Allah, Allah will give you the light, the truth, to see right from wrong. But because may people believe they are already right, they do not seek light from Allah.

The Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص used to ask for guidance, He used to say:

The Effect of the Means on Faith

When you perfect your Tawheed, you will know how to deal with the means correctly. This is based on the Hadith:

**The correct meaning is that they do not seek Ruqya from others What made these 70,000 people deal with the Ruqya, omens, (and in another narration cauterization) in this way? 1) They do not want their hearts to be attached to the people. They leave any means that causes them humiliation. So they did not ask people for Ruqya. 2) Cauterization is the most effective means of healing, as the Arabs believed. These people were afraid for their Tawheed, afraid that their hearts might become attached to the means. 3) And they did not seek unreal means. They did not believe in omens.

Ruqya

Ruqya is reciting any verses from the Qur'an or supplications when a person is sick and wiping on ones body. This is considered a religious means for healing, and the person who performs it will be rewarded for it. However the Ruqya will have no effect unless the person has strong belief in it. As for the universal means of cure, it serves as a means of cure for everyone regardless of their belief. These 70,000 who will enter Paradise without reckoning do not ask people to recite on them, although it is permissible. There is nothing wrong with asking, but if you do, you will miss out on this opportunity.

The Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص took a pledge with the companions to not ask anyone for

anything. The companions were brought up on this, such that one of them would ride his camel, and if his whip would fall, he would not ask the person standing to pick it up. He would lower the camel, get off, pick it up, and then get back on the camel. This rule has exceptions: 1) Asking for Knowledge In [16:43]:

"And We sent not (as Our Messengers) before you (O Muhammad ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص) any but

men, whom We inspired, (to preach and invite mankind to believe in the Oneness of Allah). So ask of those who know the Scripture [learned men of the Taurat (Torah) and the Injeel (Gospel)], if you know not." 2) Asking for ones rights

Page 8: Belief in Allah: The Most Beloved Deed to Allah Part 3 28 ... 25-11-1437H Belief in Allah: The Most Beloved Deed to Allah

3) Asking those who are paid to do work for the benefit of others -> If someone offers to do the Ruqya on you, it is Sunnah to accept. Aaisha

نها when he was sick and he never ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص used to recite Ruqya on the Prophet ع

used to prevent her from that. It is contrary to the Sunnah to the refuse. -> Be careful of asking indirectly. Allah knows what is in your heart. -> When a person is sick, do not wait for them to ask you. You be the one who offers and hastens to recite without having him ask. And Allah loves the ن ح مح(good-doers). -> Recite the Ruqya on yourself and you will be rewarded for it. Generally the verses for Ruqya are Surah Al-Fatihah 7 times, Ayat Al-Kursi, the Muawidhatayn, The last two verses of Surah Al-Baqarah. And in addition, there are certain verses for magic and evil eye. There are also supplications in the Sunnah.

Cauterization

The Arabs used to be attached to this way of healing because it was is very effective and immediately cures.

1) There are many authentic narrations that show us that the Prophet

cauterized the Companions.

2) There are also many authentic narrations which prove that the Prophet

hated cauterizing.

The Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص said:

أك " If there is any healing in your medicines then it is a cupping operation, or branding (cauterization), but I do not like to be (cauterized) branded." [Bukhari]

3) The Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص praised those who do not cauterize (as in the

aforementioned Hadith about the 70,000) 4) There are evidences which indicate that it is forbidden.

Healing is in three things: A gulp of honey, cupping, and branding with fire (cauterizing)." But I forbid my followers to use (cauterization) branding with fire." [Bukhari] Side Note: This is proof that honey should be drunk. You do not eat it directly from the spoon, you mix it with water. How do we reconcile between the Hadiths? The Scholars said that there is no contradiction. The ruling on cauterization is that it is disliked. You will not be sinful if you perform it. The true believer does not think of the result when he takes the means. His concern is whether it is lawful or unlawful; when it pleases or displeases Allah.

Omens

This is derived from the word " which means bird. Whenever the Arabs "طintended to travel they would make a bird fly. If it flew to the right they would be optimistic and proceed. If the bird flew to the left they would become pessimistic and avoid traveling out of fear of failure. They connected the bird with success or failure. There is no relation whatsoever, but they made it a means of their success and failure. Generally, Omens are when a person becomes pessimistic when he hears or see something and it prevents him from taking the action. E.g. - She sees a black cat and says it is not a good sign, I will stay at home. - He hears a crow and believes something bad is going to happen that day. - "Number 13 is an unlucky number." - People say they have a Sixth Sense" - A woman says, "Whenever I talk about my house...a bad thing happens". She does not understand that Allah is testing her. Allah is making that happen to test her - Do not relate unreal things to the Qadar of Allah. Because they are thinking bad about Allah (which is a Major Sin), so bad happens to them. This is all related to unreal means. And the ruling on this is Minor Shirk. The Shaytan makes us feel bad omens. As soon as this feeling of fear comes to your heart, you should: 1) Seek refuge with Allah from the Shaytan 2) Say the following Dua. It is weak, but the meaning is correct:

أحسنها" :فقال وسلم عليه هللا صلى هللا لرسو عند الطيرة ذكرت: قال عنه هللا رضي عامر بن عروة عن

إال السيئات يدفع وال أنت، إال بالحسنات يأتي ال اللهم: فليقل يكره، ما أحدكم رأى فإذا مسلما ترد وال الفأل، بك إال قوة وال حول وال أنت،

Urwah bin 'Amir (May Allah be pleased with him) said: When talking of omens

was mentioned in the presence of the Messenger of Allah (ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص) he said, "The

best type of omen is the good omen." He added, "A Muslim should not refrain

from anything because of an omen." He (ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص) told them, "When any of you

Page 11: Belief in Allah: The Most Beloved Deed to Allah Part 3 28 ... 25-11-1437H Belief in Allah: The Most Beloved Deed to Allah

sees anything which he dislikes, he should say: 'Allahuma la ya'ti bil-hasanati illa Anta, wa la yadfa'us- sayyi'ati illa Anta, wa la hawla wa la quwwata illa Bika (O Allah ! You Alone bring good things; You Alone avert evil things, and there is no might or power but in You)."' [Abu Dawud] 3) Do not accompany people who believe in bad omens. When they explain everything according to their omens and always expect evil, then you will in turn become like them. You have to teach your children to think and expect good from Allah. The Monotheist trusts his Lord. He knows that through any test he goes through in life, Allah is nurturing him. Even if the situation is repeated again and again, he knows it is a test - Will you think good of Allah or not? E.g. A person has a business. Because he dealt in interest, after some time, he lost everything. If he is a monotheist he will explain the situation as the nurturing of Allah. This was because he dealt in usury, that is why there was no Barakah in his earnings. If he was not he might immediately say evil eye, magic. E.g. A proposal came to a woman. She prayed Istikharah and it did not work out. Another proposal came. She prayed Istikharah and it did not work out. This situation might be repeated as a test for her. Will you think good of Allah? Or will you stop making Istikharah thinking that nothing good results from it? The Monotheist prays Istikharah; consults Allah. If something contrary happens to what she likes, she thinks good of Allah. She believes that Allah knows better, that this person is not good for her and Allah has someone better, and that Allah is testing her good thoughts about Him. She always expects good from Allah. The believer lives his life always having Tawakkul of Allah. Tawakkul is based on trusting Allah. And trust in Allah comes out of belief of Allah. When you believe in Allahs Hand is the good and bad, that He is All-Wise, that He is Al-Aziz, that He is All-Aware, that He is Rich, that He is All-Strong. When you believe in Allah you will give Him the full authority to take control of your affairs, and you will sleep like a baby at night. This is the person who will enter Paradise without reckoning.
