It is an exciting time of year- welcome back to school to all the students out there! I hope you have a great year and discover new things. Back to school also means that construction season is almost coming to an end and we will soon be enjoying the open roads again, at least for a little while!II hope all of you had a great August and enjoyed some of the last of the hot weather and, of course, the “Great Minnesota Get-Together,” the State Fair. John and I go every year with our family. Since we usually go in a group of a dozen people, everyone buys whatever they want to sample, and each person in the group gets a bite. It’s a great way to try everything without overeating too much. This fun Minnesota tradition wraps up the hot summer months for our family.ThereThere are many places around the Twin Cities we love to cater, and one of those places is the Carpenter Nature Center in Hastings. Thomas and Edna Carpenter started this beautiful orchard back in the early 1940’s, and today they have grown a dozen delicious varieties of local apples. Because they are also a Nature Center, they take great care in providing high-quality fruit in a sustainable environment. Carpenter sells other quality local produce as well, including pumpkins, gourds, squash, honey and decorative corn.InIn addition to the orchard, you can visit their Interpretive Center. The staff at Carpenter will take you on an explorative hike to teach you about our local birds and how to attract them to your backyard. Or you may spend an evening with them watching the night sky and learn about the mysteries of our universe. Maps are available to the many trails surrounding the Interpretive Center so you can explore the beauty of the bluffs and prairies along the St. Croix River on your own or through one of their many organized hiking programs. It is indeed a beautifulbeautiful location that you should visit sometime. We have such a wonderful state and should take advantage of these very special places. Getting outside to enjoy the fall colors is a must. Spend oneone of your free weekends this fall in the apple orchard! It is time to reserve your Thanksgiving Dinners as they are filling up fast. Catering & Event Center News... fr ChrisErik’s Excerpts...It is once again that time for the seasons to start to change, for schools to start, football games and the weather to begin to become a bit brisk at night. I am a summer lover at heart but will say fall is second in line for me out of the seasons. The daysdays feel like summer and the evenings are perfect for being outdoors without the humidity and few bugs around. With this change in seasons, it is time to change up our Wines by the Glass, Feature Wines, and to reflect the change in the next twotwo seasons ahead. We will be switching the list over on September 17th, just a few days before the official start of fall. I hope you all will enjoy the new styles and some other unique wines as well. Our next wine dinner will be on October 10th and will feature Goldeneye Winery for $80. Goldeneye is part of the Duckhorn Vineyards Family of wineries and is in the Anderson Valley located in Mendocino County. Mendocino CountyCounty sits above both Napa and Sonoma Counties with a bit cooler climate which is a perfect area for making Chardonnays and Pinot Noirs. Goldeneye specializes in

Pinot Noirs, and this dinner will be centered-on Pinot Noirs. Although we will incorporate Goldeneye’s sister winery of Migration as part of the dinner, the focus will be on the Pinot Noirs of Goldeneye. This will be our last wine pairing dinner of the year, so please call to sign up early, as we have soldsold out every dinner this year. Don’t miss out, check our website or your Happening email for more details about pricing and the menu.Lastly, I would like to take this time to thank Anna Schiltz, who has been my Assistant Manager for the last 5 years here at the restaurant. Starting this month she will be transitioning into her new role with the company- she will now oversee our social media, internet, and marketing. Very soon youyou will see her name as editor of this publication. I want to thank Anna for all the help over the last 5 years, and I am very proud and excited for her in her new position as Marketing Coordinator. I know all of you may not get to see her that often at the restaurant anymore, but if you do, I hope you allall help in congratulating Anna for a great job here and looking forward to all she can do for us in a very new way.Have a great start to Fall, enjoy the month-Erik
