FROM PASTOR GINNY
Congratulations to Kathy Piet for her Leadership and Participation
in Outreach Ministries in Howard County and Beyond!
New Hope nominated her for the Celebrate Lay Ministry Award given by the
Delaware Maryland Synod for those in the synod who give significant time and
heart to ministries through local congregations. These ministries can be within a
congregation as well as reaching out to serve the community. Kathy has been
involved in spearheading and maintaining ministries to the poor and vulnerable in
Howard County and around the globe. She has also created many opportunities
for the congregation and the community to participate in these service projects.
Kathy has nurtured the heart of service at New Hope.
There will be a dinner in honor of award recipients on April 15, from 4-7 pm at
Carroll Lutheran Village at the Krug Chapel Auditorium. The speaker will be the Rev.
Laura Sinche of the Baltimore Lutheran Campus Ministry. Reservation forms (and
more information) can be found on the RSVP form (copies can be found on the
bulletin board between the men’s and women’s restrooms in the hallway between
the sanctuary and the fellowship hall).
SOME THOUGHTS ABOUT KICKBALL First, don’t be intimidated by the word kickball! Not everyone can play or wants to
play the game. There are many other opportunities to connect with the community
and police for good conversation and relationship building. We will also have
activities for all ages, like hula hooping, face painting and crafts.
Second, people always ask, what can we possibly do to make a difference in our
world? This is an example of love in action. Yes, it’s just kickball, but it’s so much
more than that. It’s a time that provides opportunities for the police to connect
with the community and each other in a relaxing atmosphere, to begin
relationships in some instances and to deepen them in others. Such connections
strengthen our ties as community.
Third, it’s a chance for New Hope to be out in the community being an example of
what it means to be people of faith…welcoming, community oriented, giving,
loving, caring. Plus, it’s an excellent opportunity to invite friends or neighbors to
the event!
Mark your calendars now. Look for your chance to help at this event. See page 4
for more information.

FAITH IS A GIFT OF THE HOLY SPIRIT
Having said that, I know the Holy Spirit puts people in our lives who are
influential in our faith walks. This year, as part of our Lenten emphasis, we’re
making several short videos interviewing some of our New Hope family. They
will be highlighting those people who have been influential in their faith journeys.
Who has been influential in your faith walk?
Watch for opportunities during Lent for you to acknowledge who they are.
During Lent we’ve been talking about ways to pass on the faith.
Part of that included ways we incorporate faith practices in our
home life. We talked about sharing highs and lows, reading
scripture, participating in service projects, celebrating traditions
and rituals, and praying.
Children (and parents, too) are invited to join me in the Fellow-
ship Hall on Sunday, April 8, at 10am to make prayer cubes
(there’s no Sunday School that day). Prayer cubes are fun and
can be used to help facilitate mealtime prayers. We’ll gather
during the 10am worship service for making and decorating the
cubes.
Adults are needed to help with the project,
so if you can stay and help,
please let Deacon Cindy know ([email protected]).
Passing On The Faith
Making Prayer Cubes
Thank You
Thank you to Brian Aker, George and Terri Berkheimer, Dave Pumplin and Yvonne Perry who, during Lent, shared
their stories about who have been their “faith givers.” Thanks also go to Noah O’Ryan who assisted Deacon Cindy
filming and editing the videos. You can view some of the videos on our New Hope’s Worship web page.

COME-UNITY KICKBALL April 28 Noon-3pm
This year’s kickball event will feature the Howard County Police and
Sheriff’s Departments enjoying an afternoon of fun and games with New
Hope and the wider community of Columbia and beyond. Columbia
Association Athletic Club trainers will be on hand with demonstrations in
fitness. You may remember this event began from a conversation at the
gym around the thought of what we could do to positively impact the
relationship between people of color and the police.
We were proud recipients of the Governor’s Citation for Crime Prevention for 2018 for this event!
Contact Pastor Ginny ([email protected]) if interested.
Come and join us for the last Pitch social activity of the
season (we’ll resume play next September). You will find the
sign-up for this activity on the bulletin board in the Narthex.
Everyone should bring an appetizer to share. The Pitch
committee will provide dessert.

#GOODSTEWARDS We want you to know, brothers and sisters, about the grace of God that has been granted to the churches of Mace-
donia; for during a severe ordeal of affliction, their abundant joy and their extreme poverty have overflowed in a
wealth of generosity on their part. 2 Corinthians 8:1-2
In the first century, the apostle Paul wrote to the Christians in Corinth about the people of Macedonia. He told of
their gratitude, sacrifice, commitment, sharing, joy and generosity. Paul was impressed how the Macedonians
gave as a community of faith beyond their capacity as an act of love. He recognized these principles as traits of
faithful stewards and signs of spiritual maturity. Last year, we embarked on a ‘Stewardship Safari’ where we ex-
plored the ways in which New Hope acts as faithful stewards of God’s creation. You may recall, during our safari,
each of our congregational ministry teams shared how they care for our congregation, the broader community,
and the environment. While our safari may have ended, our Stewardship Journey is far from over. This year, we’re
focusing on expressing gratitude for the generosity bestowed up on us through the ministries of our faithful stew-
ards. To do this, we’re asking members of the congregation to share their personal stories of how they’ve been
impacted by the ministries of the New Hope teams. To share your story, please reach out to Karen Phelps
([email protected]) or Pastor Ginny.
We’re also asking the ministry teams to tweet updates about their team activities with the # “GoodStewards”
From everyone to whom much has been given, much will be required; and to whom they entrusted much, of him
they will ask all the more. #Luke 12:48 #GoodStewards
