Well, we need an Advertising Editor. You see the Tri-angle is mainly funded by its Commercial
Advertising and it is imperative that we ensure that our new andregular advertisers know how much to pay, when and to whom.Without this element, we cannot afford to print the magazine and
consequently your community news and voluntary or charitygroup adverts. All the roles that keep the Tri-angle going arevoluntary and the Advertising Editor’s role is no different.
It requires a few hours a week, (but not necessarily in one go)you would need to be on the phone (that would need to be
published in the magazine) and have an email address(thiswouldn’t need publishing in the magazine). Any out of pocket
expenses would be met by the magazine. We also need distributors.
Our conscientious distributors are invaluable, and without themyou wouldn’t receive your magazine each month. We really need
more volunteers to help deliver the Tri-angle, especially inthe Waddingham area , from the end of February.
We are holding a crisis meeting onMONDAY 25TH FEBRUARY 2013

The Oldest Woman in the VillageThe oldest female resident of Waddingham, Mrs Norah Brackenbury (aged 94),passed away on 13 December 2012. The service of thanksgiving for her long life washeld at St Mary and St Peter’s Church on 28 December. Norah’s family would liketo thank everyone who attended. They are also grateful for the support they havereceived from Norah’s carers, friends and the community as a whole. Norah was born in Bishop Norton in 1918, the third child of George andMaria Chappell. George was the village blacksmith and he also lived into his 90s.Maria died when Norah was very young and she was brought up by her step-mother,Alexandra. In 1939 Norah moved to Waddingham with her husband, Jack Cook, andtheir daughter, Janet, was born in the village. Jack died during World War II andNorah moved back to Bishop Norton to her parents’ home. In 1947 Norah marriedAlbert Brackenbury and the family returned to Waddingham. Later that year theirson, Peter, was born. Waddingham was to be Norah and Albert’s home for the rest of their lives;Norah working as a postwoman for many years and Albert working as a driver forBlue Circle Cement. They bought the two adjoining properties and land known as FoxHall in Joshua Way and in later years built a bungalow on the land, where they livedin their retirement. After Albert’s death in 1997 Norah moved to a bungalow nearthe village green. An avid reader and with a keen interest in politics and current affairs, Norah alsoloved sport. She played tennis in her youth and took up bowls in her later years, playing until she was 90. Her rich social life over the years included being an activemember of the Guild, the Royal British Legion and the Wednesday Club. She was aregular at bingo in Waddingham village Hall and at South Kelsey. Norah was bright, funny and down to earth. Insightful, broad-minded and loving she will be missed bymany and leaves a huge hole in the lives of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

PRESERVING GOD’S ACRE
A Churchyard is sometimes known as “God’s Acre”. One source suggests that thefirst use of the term was by the Moravian Church of Germany. The first MoravianGod's Acre was begun in 1730. As the Moravian Church spread around the world, they laid out their graveyards on hilltops, calling them Hutberg and naming thegraveyard God's Acre. God's Acre is not literally one acre in size; many are largeror smaller. There also exists in Britain a charity known as “Caring For God’s Acre”. Its visionis for Churchyards and Burial sites within the British Isles to be valued now and forthe future, and members work hard to preserve the history and wildlife of church-yards. You may like to look up its website to find out more. The churchyards in our Triangle villages are very old, and whilst other local landmay change use over time, some being sold for, say, housing or other development, churchyards are like time capsules, largely unchanged for decades. The result is thatthey are havens for wildlife and remain peaceful spaces open to all who wish to visitthe graves of loved ones, trace their ancestors, or just enjoy a few moments peaceand quiet in a busy world. The maintenance of our village churchyards is hard work, and I would like to thankpublicly all those who contribute towards it in any way throughout the year. And Iwould also like to make a plea. Churchyards are very special places that haveretained their character for centuries, but they are only able to do so because theyare subject to very strict controls known as Churchyard Regulations set by theChurch of England. This means that certain things that may be permitted in CivicCemeteries run by the Local Authority may not be allowed in Churchyards. Forexample, the rather florid type of monuments and inscriptions so beloved by ourVictorian ancestors are no longer allowed. Neither are some sorts of headstones, images, engravings or words, coloured lettering or highly polished stone, or otherfeatures that you might see in a different sort of burial ground. This is not theChurch of England being awkward – it is simply an attempt to preserve character ofour Churchyards as dignified places of rest for the departed and reflection for theliving, in keeping with Christian beliefs. My plea is that we all try to understand this, and try not to take offence or be upset if the rules do not allow us to do just as weplease with the graves of our loved ones.Whether you help cut the grass, tidy the weeds or simply come to lay flowers andbe quiet for a while, you are very welcome. But please help us to work within therules. We are all stewards of these sacred spaces, and have a responsibility to carefor them and hand them on to the next generation in good order.Revd Kathy

WADDINGHAM METHODIST GUILD REPORT13.11.12Scunthorpe Street Pastors is a group to which Paul Silabon belongs and works along-side the police and another group called Nightsafe. They walk the streets where youngpeople are leaving night clubs and pubs and may need help. The Street Pastors givepractical help and advice and are qualified First Aiders. They each carry a bag whichcontains everything they may need from foil blankets and sticking plasters to rubbergloves and lighters. Indeed, on occasion, they will administer First Aid until theambulance arrives. They collect bottles which may be broken and even supply flipflops to those who have either lost their shoes or simply taken them off because theirfeet hurt! 27.11.12Gary Allen is one of our regular speakers who tells us of his and his wife's travels toexotic places. This time, however, he told us about their visit to the Orkney Islands onthe North East coast of Scotland. The Mainland (the biggest island) has its own airportbut to get to the others take a bit more effort. Gary told us some of the history of theisland from the Viking invasions to the scuppering of the German fleet in 1918 in Scapa Flow. He also updated us on the school in Nepal which he and some friendspatronise. It is flourishing and has acquired another teacher - for English! 18.12.12It wouldn't be Christmas without a visit from the Saint John Singers. They worked allyear to produce another wonderful evening of entertainment - making us laugh andsing - lifting our spirits and sending us home happy (after tea and mince pies. of
