EditorialDear Members,

I would like to take this opportunity to point out my view of the purpose of a membership organisation – such as the IMZ.

The three major points are:

1. Generate StrategiesBringing informationBroadening the networkTesting strategies

2. Generate FundingPublic fundingPrivate funding

3. Generate VisibilityEspecially for the small members

At this stage, all these points cannot be carried out by the secretariat alone, but need a strong involvement and co-operation of as many members as possible. The mission of the IMZ "to encourage the promotion and dissemination of music throughout the audio-visual media: the gramophone, film, radio and television" (Original Statutes, 1961) must keep up with the times.

In words of today, my interpretation of our mission is:• to encourage the production and dissemination of music programmes (especially jazz and world music) on international television and in other visual media• to stimulate a dialogue between composers, filmmakers, stage and television directors, set designers, per-forming artists, audio-visual producers, broadcasters, and record companies• to promote international co-production• to raise the profile of music and music theatre in today’s media environment• to inspire new ideas about the screen presentation of music and music theatre and to offer a platform for creative innovation• to nurture local and regional talents and enhance the skills of emerging art producers, filmmakers and broadcasters• to stimulate investment in co-production programmes in arts and culture projects between and among ar-tists and producers. • to facilitate dialogue and to encourage collaboration among artists and media professionals

All this can be attained if all members work together on achieving these aims.It is my strong belief that only with the involvement of all members the IMZ will be able to fulfil our mission.

In order to produce more relevant information with this Newsletter for IMZ-members, we kindly invite you to provide us with more feedback about what kind of information you would expect from our newsletter and in what way you are wishing to get it delivered (E-mail, Link, iPad Application, Smartphone, etc.).

Looking forward to your feedback!

Best regards,

Franz PataySecretary General

After the successful productions of Die Thomaner – A Year in the Life of the St. Thomas Boys Choir Leipzig and John Cage – Journeys in Sound, Accentus Music has be-gun filming for a new music documentary project. Sidewalk Sounds, a series of 26-minute epi-sodes, will be dedicated to street musicians in Europe – "on the road", artists of life, dropouts and virtuosos. The series will explore unusual lifestyles, and the stories behind them, while also discove-ring European cities and land-scapes. Start Of A New Symphonic Series On DVD And Blu-Ray: Bruckner – The Mature Sympho-niesWith Daniel Barenboim And The Staatskapelle Berlin

Bruckner’s symphonies form a cosmos, the exploration of which is one of the most demanding challenges an interpreter can en-counter. Daniel Barenboim has taken on this challenge: In 2010 he presented six concerts with the Staatskapelle Berlin devoted to Bruckner’s last six symphonies. Accentus Music and Unitel Classi-ca recorded these highly acclai-med concerts at the Philharmonie Berlin. Accentus Music will begin the DVD and Blu-ray release of The Mature Symphonies with

New CD Release

Karsten Riedel & Franui: Fool of Lovecat.no.: WWE 1 CD 20308EAN 9120031340997

We were overjoyed when we lear-ned about the lucky encounter between Franui and Karsten Rie-del: The “musicbanda” from the tiny East Tyrolean village Innervill-graten, equipped with a hamme-red dulcimer, harp, zither, wind and string instruments, make mu-sic with the pop singer from Bo-chum-Wattenscheid, who played with ska, punk and reggae bands before he started working for the theatre. Eventually, they launched their Shakespeare Sonnet Show at the Burgtheater in Vienna; the congregation was enchanted, eve-ryone wanted a souvenir to take home – and here it is. Fool of Love is the art of the lied adapted for the 21st century, aka village pop, as the experts are wont to say.

Fool of Love will be frequently per-formed at the Burgtheater Vienna during the season 2012/2013.

“Suddenly there it is, the myste-rious world of Shakespeare son-nets. Fool of Love is an extraordi-narily clever, feathery and musical-ly ravishing approach to the poet. Caution, highly addictive!” (Kurier newspaper review)

Syquali Crossmedia

Richard Wagner : An Audio Guide App for iPhone and iPad

In 2013, we celebrate Richard Wagner’s 200th anniversary. On this occasion, Syquali Crossmedia takes the opportunity to present an app for smartphones and tab-lets which will offer the Wagner admirer a virtually guided tour through Wagner’s Zurich as well as hiking tours in the Swiss Alps.

Richard Wagner lived and worked in Zurich from 1849 to 1858. For-mative years for the composer… In this period, he drafted essential aesthetic writings and composed Das Rheingold, Die Walküre, two acts of the opera Siegfried, and began to work on the whole cycle of Der Ring der Nibelungen. With the help of this app, the user can discover profound information about Wagner, his relationships, his living, working and recreational places in Zurich. Maps lead to Wagner-hotspots in Zurich and show Wagner’s routes across the

Swiss Alps. An audio guide provides background information to each location. Thanks to the co-operati-on with the publisher Schott Mu-sic, the app provides access to Wagner’s music, his scores as well as to books about Wagner. Furthermore, the app offers re-commendations for performances of Wagner’s works and events de-dicated to the composer in Zurich during the Zürcher Festspiele.

The Wagner Audio Guide is an ab-solute must-have for the upco-ming Richard Wagner year 2013. It is going to be published in time for MIDEM 2013.World rights: Syquali Crossmedia AGPublisher: Schott Music GmbH & Co. KGProducer: Syquali Crossmedia AGCo-Producer: Zürcher Festspiele
