PRINCIPAL’S REPORT
Dear Members of the Glen Waverley Primary School Community, Welcome to another fabulous edition of our school newsletter where so much information is shared! In this fortnight’s newsletter, I would like to take the opportunity to reflect on our fabulous Concert whilst also updating everyone on a few other issues. School Gymnasium Update The progress of our new gymnasium continues to be on track besides the wet weather. Currently the builders are pouring the concrete pads (which will hold the steel columns) and the concrete footings which hold the weight of the walls. They are expecting the steel to be delivered this week and the frame will be erected very soon after that. This is a very exciting part of the project as the frame is almost identical to a “meccano set” – I’m sure the children will really enjoy watching this take shape! The bricks are scheduled to be delivered within 2 weeks and if all goes according to plan, we should start to see the shell once we return from the school holidays – how exciting!
Transporting the Children To and from School Once again, thank you everyone for the amazing manner in which you are now alighting and collecting the children from school. Overall it has been extremely successful however I write to remind you not to park in No Standing areas and also not to stop the car on High Street Road and ask the children to either enter or leave the vehicle. Both of these practices are very dangerous and if seen by the Police or By-Laws Officers, you will be fined.

Term 3, Issue 13 7th September 2017
The City of Monash are aware of the issues our school community faces hence they are in the process of altering parking conditions in Kennedy Street in order to create 2 minute parking zones between 8:30 and 9:30 am and 3 and 4 pm. Please refer to the City of Monash letter in this newsletter for further information. Once the proposals have been approved I will inform the school community.
2018 Enrolments I would like to remind families with children who will be beginning school in 2018 that we are taking enrolments now and that they are also closing rapidly as we only have a very small number of positions available. I strongly encourage you to ensure you return your child’s enrolment form to Jenny, Kylie or Julie in the main office as soon as possible. We also ask that members of our school community assist us by informing any of their neighbours of the enrolment procedures and direct them to the office to collect an enrolment form or our school website – www.glenps.vic.edu.au. School tours are available every Tuesday morning commencing at 9:30 and also upon request. Please call the school on 9802 9938 to book a tour.
Our 2017 School Concert As I reflect on last week’s concert the first thoughts that come to mind are, “Oh what a night! What an amazing evening of singing, dancing and musical mastery!” that was thoroughly enjoyed by all! Once again the children were absolutely amazing as they proudly showcased their wonderful talents with such enthusiasm, commitment and sheer enjoyment that only the younger generation can exude in abundance. A sincere thank you, well done and congratulations to all of the children as they were once again, simply amazing! As mentioned on the night, I am incredibly proud of the staff at our wonderful school as they continually go well beyond expectations in order to not only provide the children with the best possible education, but to also ensure they were thoroughly prepared for the concert. A sincere thank you to all of the staff for their efforts leading up to and during the concert and a special well done and thank you to Ms. Elisha Park, Ms. Jess Wood and Mr. Aubrey Hudson for their fabulous leadership and coordination!
Finally, another special thank you to our wonderful school community for your unyielding support with everything our school undertakes. The Glen Waverley Primary School community really is amazing and something that the staff and I cherish on a daily basis. Thank you everyone!

7th September 2017 Term 3, Issue 13
The children have written some amazing reflections and recounts, I hope you enjoy them as much as I have: Sid (Year 2)
1. What was the highlight? The most awesome and favourite part was when watching the Best Day of My Life song. I loved the grand finale.
2. How did I feel before I went on stage? I felt like I was in a big and giant rush. I also felt my heart breaking and being scared. I felt nippy and starting to get in the learning pit.
3. How did I feel during the production? My heart was really beating fast. I felt like I couldn’t stop laughing. I felt that now I was in the learning pit and the productive struggle by overcoming my fears from before.
4. How did I feel after? I felt successful and really proud. I felt it was the best day of my life. I felt the “eureka” moment!
5. If I had a time machine what would I change? Where I sit and the time we did it. I would want it to be longer (the concert)
Sanuk (Year 2) 1. What was the highlight?
Watching all of the other classes perform. 2. How did I feel before I went on stage?
I felt butterflies in my tummy and awkward. 3. How did I feel during the production?
I felt very embarrassed and demeaning 4. How did I feel after?
I felt really satisfied and overjoyed. 5. If I had a time machine what would I change?
My singing because it wasn’t thunderous enough!

Shaurya (Year 2) – My Concert Reflection On the 31st August was our concert day. I was thrilled and excited but I was also feeling a bit tense (nervous). When I got on stage I was even more tense and thrilled but when I got to the front I felt dizzy and I was going to fall off the stage but I said to myself, Shaurya you can do it, don’t be stressed!”. That made me feel confident! Gargi (Year 2) – My Concert Reflection There were butterflies in my tummy, my body was shaking like lightening with fear on the stage and even when I was not on stage. My outside was looking fairly cheerful, but inside was completely opposite. I saw loads of people in the audience looking right at me. Fear was uncontrollable in my trembling body. At the end I was starting to feel relief coming into my body. When I couldn’t find my mum I was feeling really stressed. When my mum came I was very relieved. I was a little cranky at times because I was really tired. I was feeling joyful to go home and sleep in my peaceful bed.

Concert Rehearsal Backstage
Report
Today I got to go backstage during
concert rehearsal to see what happens
behind the scenes.
I saw everything that happens, that
the parents won’t see. For example,
Miss Park using the sound desk to get
the music going. I also saw where all
the students’ line up before they go
on stage.
I saw Andy putting the props on stage
they included a car from Back to the
Future, Pac Man and the phone box
from Dr. Who.
It was very dark in places, but the
lighting was good on stage. Miss
Park kept talking to some random guy
who was making the lighting work for
each song.
Concert Night
School Concert night!
The night started with Mr. Catalano’s talk for
a very long time thanking all the parent’s for
coming and how wonderful the concert was
going to be which was put together by the
classroom teachers.
Then Time Wrap concert started!
A group of preps went on the stage first they
did Rock around the Clock, which was an
amazing start to the concert. Then my class
3A preformed Yellow Submarine. All my
friends looked happy, hippy and they did a
fantastic job.
The last performance in the junior concert
was by the teachers performing Ghost
Busters it was really cool because there was
a mystery ghost!!!
Miss Park, Mr. Hudson and Miss Wood did a
fantastic job putting the junior and senior
concert together.
It was a fantastic night.
