The R120 million school building initiative will provide a quality education for 1 700 primary and secondary school learners residing within close proximity to Platinum Village in Rustenburg and is in line with Government’s vision for integrated human settlements. The new school, which will be completed by December 2016, will be equipped with 34 classrooms, a school hall, a computer room, a library, an administration block, sport amenities and ablution facilities. The building of Platinum Village School forms an integral part of Impala Platinum’s Platinum Village Home Owner- VKLS VFKHPH D ÀDJVKLS SURMHFW YDOXHG DW 5 ELOOLRQ LQFRU- porating 2 420 houses, which will be completed over the next four years. “Our goal is to improve the living conditions of all our em- ployees and to encourage them to become homeowners. We offer interest free loans for up to a third of the value of a house in Platinum Village to make it affordable for our employees. Impala Platinum is proud to be a developer of sustainable and viable communities with all the associated infrastructure and amenities. The refurbished primary school accommodates ap- proximately 1 000 learners and 21 educators. All the learn- ers are drawn from the impoverished informal settlement, Freedom Park. The construction phase provided employ- ment opportunities for 80 people, 34 of whom live in Free- dom Park. “Given the challenging social context of our country, we strongly believe in investing in social development initia- tives particularly in the communities that are home to our employees and their families.
