Executive Summary The majority of the alumni whom responded would prefer to be exposed to intellectual, interactive content versus attending social events. The majority of the IMD South Africa club alumni reside in Gauteng. Of the 53 alumni that took the survey, the majority of the alumni attend the clubs events occasionally and feel that one event a year is not enough. For those who find it difficult to attend the club events, time constraints as well as travel required were identified as the main reasons for not attending. Only a small percentage (10%) felt that events are not interesting. The preferred speakers at these events are individuals who hold leadership positions, for example CEOs and Professors. In terms of payment, alumni prefer paying specific event fees rather than annual club membership fees. 5. 53 South African IMD alumni completed the survey. Close to half of those who completed the survey (49%) are over the age of 55 and over half of the alumni who completed the survey (67%) joined IMD post the year 2000. The survey was taken by CEOs, Directors, Executive managers, line managers and alumni who hold senior positions. Profile of the South African IMD alumni 6. Alumni general comments The present challenge is the long distance between Johannesburg and Durban when events are held in the middle of the week. I did enjoy previous speaker from IMD (Prof Turpin), his talk was fresh and relevant. These are early days, as we progress in the club we'll be able to see the level of support we can render to the club. For now I would be happy to help with the organisation. The key goal of the club committee is to motivate members to participate and also to tap into the resources that are strategic amongst the club members while also gaining knowledge from others. I was member of IMD Alumni club in London between 2005 and 2012. There was 4 to 6 events per Year, with a Summer Party(June) and sometimes a New Year Party in Dec or January in the form of a gathering for networking. I see the Alumni Club as extended added value to alumni , this effort and continued support (at no cost to alumni) is part of the distinguishing factors of being an IMD Alumni. 16. New IMD Swiss-Canadian alliance is a sweet success May 22, 2014 photo credit: www.pm.gc.ca The IMD Alumni Club of Canada and the Swiss-Canadian Chamber of Commerce ("SCCC") have entered into a cooperation agreement to strengthen their business networks and to offer their respective members new networking and learning opportunities. The alliance was officially launched in December 2013 with a notice to the members of both organizations that included a free gift of $20 of chocolate (generously sponsored by Lindt Canada). Our first joint learning event was the very well attended and very well received Manage your Career like a Business interactive seminar in February. IMD alumni were also extended an invitation to participate in the SCCC's networking events in December, February & May. For those alumni that enjoy golf, there's the opportunity to play in the SCCC Tournament on June 10th . Our next joint learning event is the highly anticipated Reinventing your Business Model session on June 24thfeaturing special guest speaker Hilti Corporation Executive Board member, Marco Meyrat. One secret to maintaining a thriving business is recognizing when it needs a fundamental change. Mr. Meyrat will discuss how Hilti is capitalizing on its bold strategy to increase customer engagement by turning its product into a service. It's a game changing move to avoid commoditization and to differentiate itself from its competitors. For the latest event updates and information, if you haven't done so already, you're invited to join 1,200 of your IMD colleagues on our LinkedIn Group page.
