I am longing to read more about your harvest festival. We celebrate Holi. This is some information I have found on the internet about Holi, as I do enjoyrubbing colour on my friends and family.Holi festival has an ancient origin and celebrates the triumph of 'good' over 'bad'. The colorful festival bridges the social gap and renews sweet relationships. On this day, people hug and wish each other 'Happy Holi'.

Holi celebration begins with lighting up of bonfire on the Holi eve. Numerous legends & stories associated with Holi celebration makes the festival more exuberant and vivid. People rub 'gulal' and 'abeer' on each others' faces and cheer up saying, "bura na maano Holi hai". Holi also gives a wonderful chance to send blessings and love to dear ones wrapped in a special Holi gift.I look forward to your reply- Love Akansha

We take great care to use safe colours.

• While traditionally Holi was a festival that celebrated the coming of spring, and therefore was deeply connected to natural cycles, these days its social significance has overtaken its roots in Nature. Several groups are now proposing a return to more natural ways of celebrating Holi.

• Dear Lily, • Thank you for writing a letter to me. On Ganesh

Chaturthi festival we immerse idols of Lord Ganesh. As Juhu beach is very close to my home, I can see the immersion of the idols. Since the idols are made up of Plaster of Paris it pollutes the water. So we will now start making the idols with clay. There is a very interesting story behind this. Lord Ganesh’s mother, Parvati, was going to bathe. She asked Lord Ganesh to keep watch at the door. As Lord Ganesh was guarding the door, God Shankar appeared. He told Lord Ganesh to move aside. But Lord Ganesh,a dutiful son, refused to do so. God Shankar got angry and chopped off his head. When Goddess Parvati saw this, she was furious and ordered God Shankar to bring her son back to life. There were some Elephants passing by, so God Shankar cut a baby elephant’s head and put it on Lord Ganesh’s body and he came to life. Thus Lord Ganesh is called the elephant-headed God.

Your suggestion to save the civet:

I think this shy and beautiful animal could be depicted as a loveable character in an animated movie so that children will come to love it.- Tarana

• Dear Reece, • I was very excited to read your letter. My name is Nirmay and I

study at Lilavatibai Podar High School. My favourite subject is Science .The population of our country has increased so much that the emissions let out by cars is highly affecting the environment. The Bombay Municipal Corporation is trying to solve the problem.

• Our teachers are encouraging students to tell their parents to use a car pool.

• It is my pleasure to reply to your letter. I do hope to hear from you. • Yours affectionately, • Nirmay.

We visited the B.N.H.S ( Bombay National History Society)

Dear Sebastian,

I was thrilled to receive your letter. We do have rubbish in our seas but the BMC (Bombay Municipal Corporation) is trying to clean up the seas and the beach too. We learn English, Math and Science too. We have a festival called Ganesh Chaturthi in which we immerse the idol in water. The idol is made of plaster of Paris and harmful chemicals. Now people make the idols with clay to save underwater life. I look forward to your letters.

Yours sincerely,

Drishtant.

Sebastian flamingoes regularly visit the marshes of Mumbai.
