Intelligent LED module LED-based light source technology for general lighting application has advanced rapidly since its inception, with efficacies rising steeply within a relatively short period of time. From 10 lumens per Watt in 1993 to more than 160 lumens per Watt in 2013, and more than 250 lumens per Watt in laboratory tests, we have seen an 800 % increase in efficacy within a decade. Performance increases of this magnitude make it feasible to replace current LED modules with new and more effective ones in future. However, the matching of an LED driver to a module can be quite tricky, with incompatibility resulting in overload and damage. The combination of intelligent LED module and intelligent LED driver is a technological trend that aims to make LED lighting future proof by allowing for new modules to be simply fit into the same sockets as the old ones and powered according to their individual needs. This results in replacement that is as easy as that of incandescent bulbs. This technology also provides modularity because one driver can serve several luminous flux packages as well as including other features like lumen maintenance and start-up time and temperature monitoring, all without the need for any adjustment. The two components need only ‘chat’ for a second to assess the situation and will then function as expected, or if incompatible the module will not be powered, which removes the risk of damage to any components and the lighting system. www.ilumtech.eu [email protected]
