Hi, I’m Bennardo Santos. Thanks for taking the time to look at my

portfolio! I’m a creative, innovative, hardworking and flexible graphic design professional specializing in illustrations.

I was born in 1991, in the second Namibian capital city, Oshakati. I have always drawn as far as I can remember. However, my drawing abilities began to mature in the fourth grade, while at Erundu Combined School. At age 12, I began with my first comic ever, ‘Ms Ellabella’. Over the years I drew many other comics, and the vision grew to what is known as, the Digital Empire, BKDS ART PRODUCTIONS. In 2006, I moved to Swakopmund. While gaining reputation through my academic achievements at Hermann Gmeiner High School. As I attended private afternoon classes for both piano, with Mr Groenewald, and art, at Art in the Attic. In 2007 and 2008, I achieved my piano in grade 1 and grade 4. In that same year, I took part in the Mascato Muscial ‘The Wanabe’.

In 2009, I began working on Omazimo - Nduka and Kanzingona; which is a BKDS African comic series, which narrates the lives of the Bantu speaking people from the time they left the “land of many waters”, to settle in the “land of the unknown”; which we know to day as Southern Africa.

INTRODUCTIONS


Nduka and Kanzingona are from different relative family groups (Omazimo), which have hated each other for centuries, but fell in love. Now, they have to overcome traditions and the magic of the

great He-She to prove their love for one another.

In 2010, I took part in WIPO Workshop in Otjiwarongo; a joint venture with the Ministry of Trade and Industry to inform SMEs on the importance and functions of Intellectual Property in their businesses. For the past four years (2012-2015), I have been studying for my BA in Graphic Design at Pearson Education Group, at the Cape Town Campus. Apart from Illustrations, I do web designs, animation (both 2D and 3D), broadcast design, and fashion designs. Although, I major in Multimedia designs, I also have an excellent eye for print and advertising media. Where I design logos and corporate identities. I also the owner of the NARDO® clothing line.

Recently, I began working with Brown Cow Books, a customisable children story book, where I illustrate accordingly to their exciting tailor-made stories.

“What?!” she exclaimed as the animal leaped out of the bag and stood meekly in front of her. Frieda gestured. “You see? We don’t know what this thing is.” Pavani marvelled at the creature. “Dear creature, what are you?”

The creature dropped its head and fluttered long eyelashes. “I am a draquin,” it whispered, hiding its face in embarrassment. “My mother was a dragon and my father was a penguin. So, I am both.” Fat tears plopped from its large round eyes.

Pavani ushered away Harold Kumar, Oliver and Frieda and led the draquin into her royal chambers where it told her its long, sad story. Daisy the Draquin, the first of its species was born into a colony of dragons, but when the others had seen her fat penguin body combined with her fire-breathing dragon tendencies, they shunned her and sent her to live with the penguins.As lovely as the penguins had been to her, she just couldn’t get used to the cold and the endless fish diet and decided to seek a new home.

“Now, you my dear. What are we going to do with you?”“Can I please live here Your Majesty?” Daisy asked with a deferential bow. “I can help with anything. I’ll polish your shoes, brush your hair, and sweep your chambers. Anything!”

Pavani pondered the situation. A draquin in her kingdom. How exciting! But at the same time, she was worried. No-one had ever heard of, much less seen a draquin before. How would her other royal subjects take to this new and quirky-looking thing? It was impossible to tell, she decided, unless they just went for it.

“Daisy,” she smiled at the funny-looking creature, “welcome to your new home!” Daisy roared with glee and sent a small flame zinging past Pavani’s ear. Frieda yelped and waddled under a table. “Your Majesty!” she squeaked, “look, she’s causing trouble already!”

Pavani chuckled and shushed them. “Frieda, show Daisy to the rooms and introduce her to everyone. She’s now part of the family.”

Shaking her head with reluctance, Frieda led a happy smiling Daisy outside. Little did Pavani know just how topsy turvy things would become…

Over in a far corner, Frieda none-too-gently nudged Daisy into the centre of the circle. In her anxiety-ridden state, Daisy let loose a few whiffs of smoke and everyone gasped and ducked. “You see Your Majesty!” roared Ellie, the mother of 15 elephants.

Pavani winced and quickly stepped forward. “Trust falls.” Everyone groaned again. Frieda reluctantly shuffled forward. “Fine, I’ll do it Your Majesty.”

“Yes, thank you Frieda,” Pavani motioned for Harold Kumar to step forward. Dutifully, they showed the others how it was done. Frieda, short and stumpy as she was, attempted to “fall back”. Harold rushed forward to catch her. Luckily for him, as Frieda was quite slow, he was there in plenty of time.

One by one, each animal paired off with a partner. A sheep with a wolf. A duck with cow. A lion with a monkey.

Fascinated, Daisy could only watch in silence. And they each demonstrated the exercise perfectly. Falling safely into the arms of their partner.

“Do you see Daisy?” Pavani’s voice was gentle and kind as she spoke to the draquin. “We all trust each other here, we all live as one. We all live happily. There is no need to breathe fire on anyone. Just imagine in your mind that we are all family.”
