Want to apply your consultancy skills and enable your clients to achieve real business benefits from a business improvement framework?
Become an Investors in People Adviser
Core Training for
Investors in PeopleSpecialists
What is an Adviser? This is someone who is registered to advise organisations on the Investors in People framework. They
encourage clients to work with Investors in People by showing the value and benefits that it offers and
the positive impact it can have on organisational performance.
They help clients to find a match between the range of topics covered in the Investors in People frame-
work and their business priorities. They help them achieve the Standard – and beyond if appropriate –
whilst ensuring the organisation sees real, tangible and cost-effective benefits.
They establish a business partner relationship and provide guidance, support and specialist services as
appropriate for each client. This relationship may already exist and Investors in People may become an
integrated theme across projects and clients they are already working with.
Whatever their specialism and interest in Investors in People, they regard it as a must have for successful
organisations and deliver it with skill and passion.
What makes the ideal Adviser?Advisers decide to add Investors in People to their portfolio because they can see the potential for a
flexible and common-sense framework in their business improvement work.
They come from a wide range of backgrounds including those who saw the impact that Investors in
People had on their own organisation and were inspired to go out and bring the same benefits to others.
This is a highly responsible and respected role and standards are high, so you will need the right blend of
skills and experience to succeed:
1. Able to build and manage relationships at all levels
These are not roles for the shy or retiring; they are for good communicators who communicate effectively
with people at all levels within organisations. You need to be convincing, to be able to quickly gain
people’s trust and to influence their behaviour.
IMPROVING BUSINESS PERFORMANCE
2. Professional and knowledgeable
The focus is on helping organisations to succeed. You must be credible, knowledgeable and consistent.
Clients want intelligent advice and insight from someone experienced - not only in Investors in People
- but in how effective organisations can succeed and manage change by linking business objectives,
structure and culture with people management, learning and development.
3. Self-reliant and independent
Roles like these take drive. You need to be a self-starter, effective at planning and both working alone
and in teams.
How do you become an Adviser? To become an Investors in People Specialist, candidates must undertake development, which includes
training, practical experience, a series of assignments and a sign-off or ‘registration’ process. Typically
this takes six - nine months provided candidates have a number of projects and clients through which
they can acquire the necessary practical experience.
This is a fully integrated programme that provides knowledge and support and opportunities to apply
and demonstrate the requisite skills, understanding and behaviours. The programme is designed to take
candidates through a development journey based on the Investors in People Specialist Capability
Framework, to a point where Investors in People International, with whom they will be registered, has
confidence in their ability to maximise the impact of Investors in People.
The overview below illustrates the main components of the programme.
Training for Specialists is specifically about understanding and using the Investors in People framework.
