What is the IIBA

The International Institute of Business Analysis is an international non-profit association for business analysis professionals.

Vision: To be the world's leading association for Business Analysis professionals

Mission: To develop and maintain standards for the practice of business analysis and for the certification of its practitioners


IIBA Goals

Create and develop awareness and recognition of the value and contribution of the role of the Business Analysis Professional

Define the Body of Knowledge

Define the business analysis profession by providing certification to its members

Provide a forum for knowledge sharing


What is a Business Analyst?

The Definition Works as a liaison among

stakeholders to elicit, analyze, communicate and validate requirements for changes to business processes, policies, and information and information systems

Understands business problems and opportunities in the context of the requirements and recommends solutions that enable the organization to achieve its goals


What is the Business Analysis Body of Knowledge?

Captures the sum of knowledge within the profession of Business Analysis Areas of knowledge Associated activities & tasks Skills necessary to be effective

Reflects currently accepted practices

Owned & enhanced by the professionals who apply it


Business Analysis Certification

Certification background Conducted Job Survey Analysis Awarded contract to Castle Worldwide for

psychometrician assistance Test questions written in August 2006 Finalizing questions by year end 2006

IIBA CBAP Certification First Sitting held Nov. 10, 2006

16 successful CBAP 12 Exam offers for 2007, including 2

international – London, England and Australia

Opportunity for SA BA’s: Will be held in SA if enough members



Designation - Certified Business Analysis Professional (CBAP)

The IIBA Certification will recognize individuals with an advanced level of knowledge and qualifications

The IIBA will consider offering additional certification programs in the future based on demand

Note: Education Provider certifications will not be recognized as a substitute to the IIBA certification



Certification Entrance Criteria Five years work experience in

past 10 years Experience in 4 out of 6

knowledge areas Minimum high school education Two references 21 hours of professional

development

Endorsed Education Providers

There are currently 43 EEP’s around the world

Committee will evaluate training programs submitted by vendors

IIBA will provide direction on programs that align with the BOK

Courses will not be audited by a committee member

IIBA web site will have an area for members to review endorsed education providers

Current Status of Chapter Start Up

Kickoff meetings held in CT & JHB (x2) Petition signed by 15 IIBA member to form the SA IIBA

Chapter Acting Board has been assigned Formally establish the SA Chapter by July 2007 Membership target: 200 members by end of 2007 Monthly networking events (evenings) in Gauteng and

Western Cape Get IIBA to offer CBAP exams in Western Cape and

Gauteng in late 2007/early 2008
