INTRODUCTIONOUR TOPIC – CHALLENGES OF MARRIAGE LIFE: Is a discussion that is focused on saving the marriage relationship among Brethren in the Lord’s Church in our time, which is timely, and very necessary, it has been observed that some marriage Relationship are on the way to separation, some about to Divorce, while others are already Divorced. This ugly and evil situation must be stopped. But, how can we stop this ugly and evil situation without “MARRIAGE”. There can be no Challenges in Marriage without One being Married. “MARRIAGE” is the union of a Man and a Woman as Husband and wife, With the consent of both families.

THE ORIGIN AND HISTORY OF MARRIAGEThe origin and history of Marriage

is traced back to the beginning of creation. Marriage is the first divine institution ordained by God.Gen 2:7,18- 25 And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living being. Gen 2:18 And the Lord God said, "It is not good that man should be alone; I will make him a helper comparable to himNKJVChallenges Of Marriage

21 And the Lord God caused a deep sleep to fall on Adam, and he slept; and He took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh in its place. 22 Then the rib which the Lord God had taken from man He made into a woman, and He brought her to the man. 23 And Adam said:"This is now bone of my bonesAnd flesh of my flesh;She shall be called Woman,Because she was taken out of Man.



Gen 2:24-25therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and they shall become one flesh.

25 And they were both naked, the man and his wife, and were not ashamed. NKJV



It is abundantly clear that , the Marriage as ordained by God is One Man One Woman, (Monogamy) both leaving father and mother to be united as One flesh and no more twain, Husband and Wife. One + One = One. (This is a mystery ). Hence miss Vera Olubume – Now becomes Mrs. Vera Obaveta.



DOWRY IN MARRIAGE

It is worthy to note that, after the First Marriage Instituted for Adam and Eve by God, payment of Dowry or Bride price became a universal Marriage Requirement. The payment of Dowry in Marriage is a matter of Custom, and Tradition, and it varies from place to place, and from people to people. It has God’s approval, so long it does not violate the laws of God.Challenges Of Marriage

LET US CONSIDER SOME MARRIAGE RELATIONSHIPTHAT ARE WRONG AND UNACCEPTABLE BEFORE GOD

1. CO - HABITING:

Co – habiting is define as the living together of a Man and a Woman having Sexual relationship without being scripturally Married. This act transgresses God’s divine arrangement and laws in Marriage, therefore it is a Sin of Fornication - 1 Cor. 6:9-10 & 18. Apostle Paul’s candid advice to those involve is to be properly Married. 1 Cor.7:1-3.



2. CREDIT – MARRIAGE:

CREDIT – MARRIAGE, as the name implies, is the coming together of a Man and a Woman having sexual relationship with an agreement to pay all Marriage rites when financial condition improves. This is an act of fornication, those involve must come out of such Relationship before it will be too late. If any one dies in such Relationship without normalizing it, will face the danger of an un-scriptural marriage Relationship. 1 Cor. 6:18.



1 Cor. 6:18-20 Flee sexual immorality. Every sin that a man does is outside the body, but he who commits sexual immorality sins against his own body. 19 Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own? 20 For you were bought at a price; therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God's. NKJV



POLYGAMY:

Polygamy is defined as the custom of having more than One Wife at the same time. This custom does not agree with God’s set standard of Marriage. The Marriage ordained by God for Man is One Man One Woman (Monogamy) and not (Polygamy) Gen. 2: 20 – 25. Matt.19:4 – 6.

The first Polygamist Recorded in the Bible is La-mech. Gen.4:19. Then Lamech took for himself two wives: the name of one was Adah, and the name of the second was Zillah.NKJV



THINGS WE NEED TO KNOW ABOUT MARRIAGE

1. The Marriage ordained by God for Man is for Life. Rom.7:1-3

2. The Marriage ordained by God for Man cannot be Terminated, except for fornication. Matt.19:4-6,&9

3. The Marriage ordained by God for Man – Demands “L0VE”; One for the other. Eph.5:21- 25, & 28 – 31.

4. The Marriage ordained by God for Man is Honourable. Heb.13:4.



CONCLUSION

1 Cor. 6:18-20Flee sexual immorality.
