If I covered my transgressions as Adam, by hiding mine iniquity in my bosom

Consider a man whose his wife and children prides themselves on always remaining the “only family” the

man has. Suddenly they develop the deepest hatred for the man after his death when they found out that he had

other families (other wives, mistresses and children). Not only were they overcome with grief when the man died but were shocked to discover a terrible secret and may

live the rest of their lives in disbelief and in disrespect for the man.A sin that is not discovered/quickly discovered has certain

characteristics: *creates a righteousness that is not of God; attempts to mock the integrity of God’s pattern for godly

living; brings harm or loss to the sinner and possibly to those around him/her.

Sin is “transgression” which means “to step deliberately over a property line, to trespass; to have gone where one should not have gone. Sin is “iniquity;” to commit iniquity is to violate an established standard; in this case one cannot claim ignorance; one knows that his/her behavior is sinful. Sin also means “to miss the mark.” It conveys the idea of shooting an arrow at a target and missing, or straying off a straight path. Sin is not just the breaking of a direct command of God (1 John 3:4). It is also the failure to live up to God’s standards (Romans 3:23) even failing to live up to our opportunities and obligations (James 4:17).

because of their sin (Genesis 3:16–19).Nadab and Abihu sinned by offering “strange fire” and were killed by fire from heaven (Leviticus 10:1, 2). Uzzah sinned by touching the ark when it was about to fall, and he was destroyed (2 Samuel 6:1–7). The death of David’s baby boy and the troubles that arose within his own household were consequences of his sin (2 Samuel 11; 12). Even in the New Testament, we see that sin had

painful consequences. Ananias and Sapphira were killed when they lied to the Holy Spirit (Acts 5:1–11). Herod was eaten by worms and died (Acts 12:21–23) because of his sin.Paul explained the principle of sin and death when he said, “Whatever a man sows, this he will also reap. For the one who sows to his own flesh will from the flesh reap corruption, but the one who sows to the Spirit will from the Spirit reap eternal life” (Galatians 6:7b, 8).

The most devastating effects of sin are spiritual and eternal. “The wages of sin is death”—spiritual death, separation from God. When people sin, they are separated from God. Isaiah said, “Your iniquities have made a separation between you and your God, and your sins have hidden His face from you so that He does not hear” (Isaiah 59:2). When we separate ourselves from God by sinning, we are spiritually dead.

Page 9: Ihr Logo. Your Logo “He who covers his sins will not prosper. But he who confesses and forsakes them will find mercy.” If I covered my transgressions.

Perhaps the worst aspect of spiritual death is that it cannot be seen (see Revelation 3:1). Often, when something is physically wrong with someone, he and others know there is a problem because of the way he looks. In contrast, a person can be spiritually dead and look very much alive. He may be in good health physically, prospering financially, and doing well socially, but still be dead—dead in sin!

The greatest tragedy for those who are separated from God and are dead in sin is that, unless they repent and turn to God,

they will ultimately face eternal consequences.

The word “undiscovered” means not found or found out about. It has reference to "cover,” "conceal,” or to “hide.”   No one forces us to sin. The expression “The devil made me do it” is an attempt to blame an other for what we have done. Parents, teachers, and friends may have set bad examples or done wrong to us at times but none of them can be accused of the very sin we committed.

The sin one commits is one’s sin. We sin of our own free will. People deal with their sins in many different ways. Some deny them; others ignore them; many make excuses for them. Then there are those who try to hide them. Yes, man sometimes endeavors to hide his sin rather than address it. Man hides his sin in various and sundry ways. A. Adam tried foolishly to cover his sin by hiding himself among the trees in the garden (Gen. 3: 8).

  B. Aaron blamed the people in an effort to conceal his sin (Ex. 32: 22). The utter foolishness of Aaron's determination to cover his sin is seen when he blames the "fire," "there came out this calf," cp. vs. 2-4, vs. 24. We often look just as silly in our efforts to keep our sins from others.   C. Achan tried to hid the "accursed thing" in the earth (Josh. 7: 1, 21).     a. We learn from Achan that even though one may "repent," there are often remaining

consequences to our sin and our efforts to conceal them (Josh. 7: 20-25).    b. Also, others often suffer because of our sins (Josh. 7: 1, 11, 12).  D. Some of the Jews attempted to cover their sins by murdering the one who exposed them (Acts 7: 51-60).

Sometimes sin is renamed in an attempt to cover it. Adultery is called an affair. Homosexuality is called an alternative life-style. Car thief is now lifting a car. Slander is called stating your mind. Man endeavors to cover sin by denying it. A lie is a cover which men put over their sins to conceal them. They deny that what they have done is sin. Like Cain, Rachel, Joseph's brothers, Peter, Ananias and Sapphira they endeavored to hide their sin by denying it with a lie.

Page 16: Ihr Logo. Your Logo “He who covers his sins will not prosper. But he who confesses and forsakes them will find mercy.” If I covered my transgressions.

Your Logo

Some covered their sins by ignoring them. They suspect that if they thought about them or learned more about them that such knowledge would not be pleasant and therefore force them out of their mind. They refuse to listen to the Word because their sin might be pointed out. But to ignore sin's existence does not change its nature or remove its effects. Some covered theirs sin by diminishing it. They call it a little white lie. What they did wasn't so bad compared to what's done by others.

Page 17: Ihr Logo. Your Logo “He who covers his sins will not prosper. But he who confesses and forsakes them will find mercy.” If I covered my transgressions.

Your Logo

To discount your sin in your eyes or the eyes of others though does not diminish it in God's eyes. They use excuses to cover their sin, stating that their mistakes were due to the influence of others, the power of circumstances, their poor up bringing, or their environment.Others attempt to cover theirs by forgetting their sins. They endeavor to sweep them from memory by frivolity and mockery, by sensuality, worldliness, or intoxication. No effort is spared to hide the ugly side of sin and dress up its more

pleasurable parts. The imaginations of man's evil heart is constantly used like a paint to cover over sin's decay and rot. Thus the knowledge, realization, or admittance of sin rendered still more difficult by our effort to conceal it. Yet we hide it only from our self & gullible men. Our attempt to hide our sin does nothing to remove them but only furthers sin's injury by allowing its poisoning to continue seeping into us.

The thing that makes sin so dreadful is thefact that it has its seat in the very center of life.the heart or the mind. If we allow it to do so, sinwill take possession of every faculty of the soul

and every member of the body and enslave them.

Some diseases of the body which, after runningtheir course, will stop of their own accord. But

this cannot be said in reference to sin, the malady of the soul. Sin has no tendency to arrest

itself.

We often forget that…there is nothing covered, that shall not be revealed; and hid, that shall not

be known" (Matt. 10: 26).

"For God shall bring every work into judgment, with every secret thing, whether it be good, or

whether it be evil" (Eccl. 12: 14).

Sin is the greatest of detectives: be sure yoursin will find you out.

irresistible power and overwhelm all that is good and holy in the soul. Such spiritual disasters arise from forgetfulness of the perfect knowledge of God. This should not be. Good students of the Bible should know better. One of the objects of the ministry of the Lord Jesus in Judea and Galilee was to show men the truth they had forgotten, that God is acquainted with the thoughts and inner feelings of men. By Him the thoughts of many hearts were revealed (Luke 2:35).

Thus the Lord Jesus in the days of His flesh proved that He possessed the divine attribute of omniscience and He gave many other instances of the exercise of this power. The fact of the all-seeing eyes of God running to and fro in the earth was known in Old Testament days. David's flagrant sin in the matter of Uriah the Hittite was committed in secret. But God knew the whole sordid story, and exposed his guilt to all Israel. (II Sam 12:12).

The king said within himself, Surely the darkness shall cover me, but he had to learn that the darkness could not hide from Jehovah, and he found, to his shame, that his secret sin was revealed in the light of the sun (Ps 139:11, 12). Like Moses, David had to say to God, "Thou hast set our iniquities before Thee; our secret sins in the light of Thy countenance" (Ps 90:8). God, frequently in His word, warns all men of His omniscience that they may not fall into the

foolish delusion of imagining that they can conceal themselves or anything concerning themselves from Him. "Can any hide himself in secret places that I shall not see him? says the LORD. Do not I fill heaven and earth? says the LORD" (Jer. 23:24). This vain attempt at concealment will be repeated on a large scale in the future when kings and great and stubborn men will call upon the mountains and rocks to fall upon them and hide them from the face of

the One sitting upon the throne and from the wrath of the Lamb (Rev. 6:15,16).But surely you, have no need to seek anything to cover you from the face of the Lord. It is at any rate impossible for you to have secrets from Him. He knows the secrets of your hearts (Ps 44:21).

It is hard to learn form a mistake you don't acknowledge making. What good is a mistake if it doesn't teach you something? To learn from a error you need to admit it, analyze it, and make

adjustments so that it doesn't happen again. Everybody sins, but fools cover them up and then

repeat them. Whether a sin is evident at the outset or shows up later, we cannot escape the

fact that our sins will be known.
