historyIn June 2008, a group of passionate university students

made the choice to stop talking about environmental issues

and begin the very difficult work of solving them. They did

this by identifying a set of very practical goals with positive

implications for their local environment.

The first IDEAS chapter was established by a group of students

who attended the University of Central Florida. Their first

initiatives involved the maintenance of a campus lake, and

programs that encouraged the adoption of recycled paper

for print labs in various campus departments, including the

Student Government Association. Through their collective

action and results-oriented approach, they were able to appeal

to other university students, many of whom had some pretty

amazing IDEAS of their own.

From 2009 - 2012 IDEAS saw significant growth in the amount

of chapters, members and attention they were receiving.

Eventually, it became necessary for IDEAS to establish

themselves as a 501 © non-profit organization in the United

States. Fast forward to 2013 --- IDEAS is a registered 501 c

3 non-profit organization and an officially accredited Non

Governmental Organization (NGO) by the United Nations with

chapters and officers in a handful of different countries.

Sharing knowledge is a process of evolution, education and

relationship building. The information outlined in this toolkit is

meant to help individuals, teams and supporters develop a better

understanding of where IDEAS has gone and where we wish to go.

We hope that this toolkit will serve as a brief history of great thinkers

who envision a sustainable and conscious future. We hope you

help to share our light as we journey forth towards a more solution

orientated future.
