CERTIFICATE III IN TELECOMMUNICATIONS TECHNOLOGY (ICT30515)

The Certificate III in Telecommunications will prepare you for the role of an operator in the telecommunications industry. You will learn to apply a broad range of competencies using a defined range of skills, where some discretion and judgement is required.

You will gain the skills to be involved in the selection, installation and configuration of equipment in converging technologies that integrate radio, optical and internet protocol (IP) based applications.

The ACMA requirements for open cabling rules will be met. You will learn skills in ribbon fibre cable splicing and terminating, and in using optical and RF measuring instruments; electrical skills, network equipment installation and the use of hand and power tools as well as OH&S and sustainability practices.

CERTIFICATE III IN INFORMATION, DIGITAL MEDIA AND TECHNOLOGY (ICT30115)

The Certificate III in Information Digital Media and Technology (Lightmare Traineeship) is a School Based Apprenticeship / Traineeship (SBAT) available to Victorian secondary school students and VCAL students studying at year 10 to year 12. This award winning traineeship has been developed by Lightmare Studios and is delivered in cooperation with Box Hill Institute. The traineeship is designed to introduce you to the Australian Games Design Industry working environment. You will develop foundation drawing and animation skills and knowledge whilst studying at Box Hill Institute and practice these skills during weekly live, supervised online work shifts for Lightmare.

You will gain practical skills and knowledge in communications skills & working in the games industry, 2D concept sketching, creating pixel art, creating 2D animation, building 3D models, texturing and animating 3D models, creating your own 3D character and developing a 3D walk cycle.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTSYou must be:

› a Victorian Secondary school student aged 15 years and older

› enrolled in and attending a secondary school or a VCAL program.

You must register interest on the Lightmare Studios website at www.lightmare.com.au/students/vic

CAREER OUTCOMES

After successful completion, you may wish to apply for a range of opportunities such as an assistant animator in the games industry, assistant games designer, assistant digital media author/designer, assistant digital media developer/programmer etc.

CERTIFICATE IV IN TELECOMMUNICATIONS ENGINEERING TECHNOLOGY (ICT41215)

You will gain qualifications that reflect the role of a technician with a range of telecommunications skills who can install and maintain enterprise network in emerging and converging technologies, internet protocol (IP) based network telecommunications equipment, IP network in home networks and small and medium enterprises and assess installation requirements of converging voice, video and data IP networks.

You will also gain skills and knowledge for entry to the industry with electives focusing in Cabling, Telecommunications engineering networks, Broadband and wireless networks. Together with the NBN roll out, the Certificate IV in Telecommunications Network Engineering will be in demand nationally.

CAREER OUTCOMES

CERTIFICATE IV IN CYBER SECURITY (22334VIC)

Do you have an interest in working in the information technology industry?

The Certificate IV Cyber Security is specifically designed to develop your skills and knowledge for a career as a Cyber Security paraprofessional.

The role of a Cyber Security paraprofessional is to detect or determine breaches in network and system security and to escalate an incident to the security response team. A Cyber Security paraprofessional works with a range of stakeholders (both internal or external to the organisation) that need to be aware of a threat or vulnerability.

You will gain practical skills in pen testing, identifying and reporting website and system vulnerabilities, system testing, securing pcs in a workplace environment, evaluating and reporting cyber security incidents, networking concepts and protocols, setting up and managing network security, security script programming, website security, problem researching and working with a team to develop cyber policies and procedures to meet workplace and legislative requirements.

Study scholarships are available to applicants who already hold higher qualifications.

This course has been developed by Box Hill Institute in conjunction with a significant Industry Advisory panel comprising of Cyber Security specialists in the security, banking, information technology and telecommunications industries.

This course allows you to work in both the programming and art stream, two distinctly different disciplines within the field of game design. This unique approach gives you first hand insight into each discipline, and what is required to succeed in this exciting industry. The pathway developed in this program will allow you to choose one of these areas of study in the Diploma of Digital and Interactive Games.

You will study three core areas over two semesters – Art, Programming and Project.

The Diploma of Computer Systems draws on fundamental studies in computer hardware, software, networking, systems analysis and databases. Electives allow the study of topics such as cloud computing, operating systems and programming for web applications.

Box Hill Institute is a Cisco Training Centre for AsiaPac and the course may lead to certifications in Cisco CCNA or other certifications.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTSYou must have successfully completed VCE, with a study score of at least 20 in maths (any) and 20 in English (any). Additional consideration will be given for achievement in physics, chemistry, systems and technology, technological design and development and/or mathematics methods.

If you do not meet the above criteria, you must present evidence of current employment or experience in the ICT industry together with evidence of your ability to meet the demands of the program. You must be 21 years or more by 1 January in the year you commence study.

ASSOCIATE DEGREE IN COMPUTER SYSTEMS (ADBC3)

This is a 2 year associate degree with majors in networking, cloud computing and virtualisation. It draws on fundamental studies in computer hardware and software, networking, virtualisation, operating systems, network security, emerging computer technologies, programming for web applications, business and communication skills and entrepreneurship and innovations skills. This program is intended to produce adaptable graduates who are as comfortable presenting ideas in the boardroom as they are in the workshop.

You will study computer networking, operating systems, network security, cloud computing, virtualisation and business management and practices. This course also covers internet and emerging technologies, systems fundamentals, ICT sustainability and entrepreneurship and innovation.

This degree will train you in the following vendor certifications: Cisco (CCNA, CCNP), VMWare (VCP), EMC (EMCISA), Citrix (CCA), Microsoft (MCTS) and Linux Professional (LPIC).

BACHELOR OF COMPUTER SYSTEMS (BCS03)

This course has industry engagement as its major focus. We partner with IT industry giants such as Cisco, VMware and Microsoft to deliver a course based on current and future industry requirements.

You will learn networking, cloud computing, virtualisation, system administration, cybersecurity and the emerging area of the Internet of Things (IoT).

The degree is hands-on, using real equipment so you have the practical skills as well as the theoretical knowledge to be productive in the workforce from day one. It includes courseware from industry Academies and can lead to industry certifications. These give an evidence-based approach to demonstrating your value to an employer.

LITERACY & NUMERACY SUPPORT PROGRAMThe Literacy and Numeracy Support (LN Support) program provides eligible students with help to complete their course by focusing on workplace reading, writing, numeracy (maths) and communication skills.

The LN Support program is flexible, and provides support in classrooms and/or in group tutorials and with online activities. Students are enrolled in LN Support program units based on their Core Skills Diagnostic Test. When students have successfully completed these units, they receive a Box Hill Institute Statement of Attainment.
