Ed Rust, CEO State Farm, offers

his perspective on the need of a

well-prepared work force. He saidfrom a business perspective, we

need well-educated, well-preparedstudents entering the workforce. From a national perspective, our

economy depends on a well-educated populace. Ourcommunities thrive when everyone

has access to the opportunities thata competitive and quality educationprovides. For the last couple ofdecades, our states have applied

    educational standards that have not

been consistent in their approach orexecution. Most fell below the

    standards established by other

countries, which puts us at adisadvantage in this evolving global

economy. To address this issue, 45

states have now adopted a set oflearning standards in Math andEnglish. These are referred to as the

Common Core and are the sameregardless of state

We are almost nearing to the end of 2013. It hasbeen a very busy year with many new activitiesat iEXCELL. iEXPLORE has been our most

successful initiative this year and we are verypleased with its success in a short time.

Traditionally, we have been hosting an annual

party in December. We are working on theschedule for the next 2 quarters and are not able

to find any free weekend till March. iEXCELL kidshave been very busy during this time of the year

and hence we are debating to move our AnnualParty in Spring. We should have a decision on

the date of the annual party by next month. Kids

have more time once all the competitions aredone over and will enjoy more at that time. More

    information in the next newsletter.

Our website iexcellkids.com is updated with

upcoming events and information about our

    programs.

    Common Core has been a

    major topic of discussion all

    over the state and beyond.

Common Core is primarilydesigned not to re-invent the

educational system but tosystematically strengthenMath and English curriculum

    to prepare our kids for

future. We rank anywherebetween 15th and 30th ineducational standards

around the world. Commoncore is a great effort to

bridge that gap. Needless tosay that it offers some short-

term challenges, but isdefinitely a long term benefit

    for our kids.

We are here to answer any

    questions you may have

about Common Core. If wedont have an answer, wewill do our best to find one.

    Chris Minnich, Council of

    Chief State School Officers,

offers his perspective on theCommon Core standards, saying

the standards are ambitious butwill better prepare students tocompete in the global economy.

For the last couple of decades, our states have appliededucational standards that have

not been consistent in theirapproach or execution.

    Most fell below the standards

established by other countries, which puts us at a disadvantage

    in this evolving global economy.

To address this issue, 45 stateshave now adopted a set oflearning standards in Math and

English. These are referred to as

the Common Core and are thesame regardless of state.
