International Conference on
Recent Advances in Metallurgy for Sustainable Development
(IC-RAMSD 2018)
February 1 – 3, 2018
Faculty of Technology and Engineering, The M .S. UNIVERSITY OF BARODA, VADODARA- GUJARAT (INDIA)
Organized by
Department of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering, Faculty of Technology and Engineering,
The M.S. University of Baroda,
Kalabhavan, Vadodara
In association with
Ministry of Steel, Government of India, New Delhi
Preamble
The metals and their alloys have played significant role since early civilization and are being used in
(i) the construction of buildings, roads, bridges, flyovers etc (ii) automotive industries (iii) railways
and (iv) nuclear, space and defense related applications. The production of ferrous and non-ferrous
metals making use of conventional raw materials is almost established and attempts are being made to
make production processes more eco-friendly, energy efficient and cost effective. Metals and their
powders are being used for making complicated castings and components respectively in a variety of
engineering industries. The welding technology is also playing significant role in the fabrication of
equipments and accessories related to engineering industries. The micro-structural analysis of metals
and their alloys reveals their inherent characteristics under different experimental and environmental
conditions and the failure analysis of engineering components predict their life. Likewise corrosion
production enhances their life for sustainable development. During last 4 to 5 decades several
advanced metallic materials and composites have been developed for specific engineering applications
with a view to enhance their mechanical properties. In recent years modeling and simulation of
metallurgical processes have revealed their mechanisms as well as explored new process parameters
for their effective and efficient operation. Almost all metallurgical applications invariably require
vigorous testing at each and every stage and non-destructive techniques are playing major role.
Presently the scarcity of high grade resources is affecting metal productivity and use of lean grade
minerals is generating huge quantity of solid, liquid and gaseous wastes. Therefore immediate attention
is needed to have sustainable metal industries by developing eco-friendly energy efficient processes
making use of lean grade ores, mine wastes, ore fines and ore slime. The recovery of valuable metals
from electronic wastes and all sorts of industrial and urban wastes is a major thrust area. The
conference shall provide a global forum and unique opportunity to exchange and discuss scientific
information and technological innovations amongst experts and practitioners from different disciplines
viz. industries, R&D establishments and academia for finding solution in time bound period.
Objectives
• Bring together global experts and practitioners from interdisciplinary areas,
industries, R&D establishments, academia as well as students on a common
platform for updating and sharing their experiences and knowledge including
latest developments and processing of waste by-products for sustainable
development.
• Give an impetus to develop and innovative technologies / processes by exploring
lean grade ores, fines / slime, and industrial waste.
• Improving metal processing methods with lower energy consumption and
minimum effluent discharge.
